What would you do (re: custom vanity that doesn't fit)?
Comments (5)oh, sailor, I am soooo sorry to hear this. I can so totally sympathize. We paid a lot for our custom cabinetry in our master bathroom, and we, too, were really dissatisfied. In our case, the issues were not as bad, or more fixable. The vanity itself has sides that are a lighter wood, side drawer slides rather then bottom slides, and the drawer wood isn't well-matched for grain as I'd hoped. However, none of those things is explicitly WRONG (aside from the drawer glides, I'd specified under-mount), just "not as nice as I expected"... so we let those go. The cabinetmaker was a really nice young man with a sweet family and we liked him, so we just decided it was "good enough". The small wall cabinet over the toilet, though, had the shelf holes mis-drilled so that the shelves were crooked. We DID make him take that back are rebuild it for us, at his own expense. Assuming your cabinetmaker was made clearly aware of things like not running into the window trim, toekick heater, etc before he started, then he should fix them at his own expense. He took his own measurements, he wasn't working solely from your plans. If some of those issues were vague, and you just assumed he knew, but weren't super clear, then he might have reason to resent redo. (On our master vanity, I'd just "assumed" that the cabinetmaker would use matching wood for the sides, and try to match the wood grain on the drawers. It seemed obvious enough that I didn't think to specify. But since I hadn't, I didn't feel I could fault him too badly. Especially since our design was pretty unusual for this area -so spare and modern- and he had only built traditional cabinetry before...) Anyway, my heart goes out to you. I totally understand the renovation fatigue and depression. You plan and plan for so long... making sure every detail is thought out and carefully designed, and then you just want to give up when these sorts of issues arise. I don't know if you followed our master bathroom reno but it dragged into months and months with all the problems we had. Hang in there, it'll be finished soon, and you'll enjoy it for a long time!...See MoreLosing Weight/Dieting: What Works For You . . . And What Doesn't?
Comments (30)Wow, what a lot of really great ideas for me . . .and for all of us here. Thank you!!! I'm following a lot of it and have lost 12 pounds so far. Mainly by cutting out most carbs and white sugar, and as Kelly suggested, doing interval training. I'm also keeping bags of fresh, pre washed baby carrots, baby bell peppers and green beans to munch on when I get hungry. Last night we grilled out burgers and I had mine without the bun. It's getting easier to eat like this and I'm finding the cravings for sweets and cheese are becoming less with each day . . . thankfully! As I mentioned in an earlier post here, I wasn't vastly overweight, just at the tops of what my weight should be for my height and age. Now I'm 12 pounds lighter and my clothes fit so much better! I'd still like to drop another 8 pounds. We fly out this Thursday morning to Palm Beach and then on to the Tampa area 4 days later. I've already eaten dinner and lunches out several times since I started this weight loss drive and have found it pretty easy to eat out healthfully . . . as long as it's in a regular and not a fast food restaurant. Salads with grilled meats, nuts, etc. are my go-to's, with a lite salad dressing on the side; hold the croutons and bread sides (LOL). But, as always, I have to be so careful that "lite" doesn't contain any artificial sweeteners, as I'm extremely allergic to them, especially aspertame/aspartame. So many thanks for all the great, helpful ideas. I'll continue to read them, although I'm not sure if I'm taking my laptop with me to Florida yet. Comments (24)I have pared down my baking significantly as far as cookies and treats go. When the kids were home I made tins and trays of cookies for bus drivers, teachers' lounges, older folks in our neighborhood who no longer baked for themselves, etc.. My group of 6 close women friends looked so forward to them because they didn't bake. Then the kids grew up and moved, we moved from the old neighborhood and all my women friends started South Beach, WW, or Sugar Busters diets and I didn't want to undermine their efforts. A couple years ago when my Mom was diagnosed w/ breast cancer (her 2nd time) right after T-Giving I was overwhelmed w/ her care over the holidays and just didn't do the baking that year. The world did not come to an end, and I discovered that I could choose to keep the tradition - or not. These days I bake when I choose to, when I have guests and when asked to bring dessert to a gathering. Like someone above noted, it's not like in years past when people really seemed to treasure the homemade baked gift. The cost in time and ingredients seems greater than in the past. I'm delighted to bake for those I know enjoy it, but I don't dole out the homemade treats the way I used to....See MoreSink tip-out doesn't fit - what to do?
Comments (14)I'm confused - how do you have a sink without counters? Assuming your sink is undermount, will the section of counter in front of the sink really be so narrow? Mine is 3.5", only about .5" of which overhangs the cabinet door fronts. I thought that everything that could go wrong or be mis-measured in my kitchen was, but this wasn't. But now I understand why my GC didn't include tilt outs from the beginning when I thought they were standard and easy. I guess sometimes they aren't....See Morejoyce_6333
