Restoration Hardware vanity: sink switching and baseboard issues
Comments (5)Thank you, everyone. I just talked to the carpenter and he agrees with you, Chris. He said he will scribe (?) the baseboard to fit the curve of the vanity legs. I hope I got the term correct. The next step is to wait for the plumber and the granite fabricators to call me back on their solution to the sink installation. A friend thinks that the fabricator will have clips to attach my sink to the granite. I've never done anything with stone countertops before so this will be my first time doing this. Thanks for all the handholding and suggestions. One of these days things will finally be finished in this build and I'll try to learn a new skill and post pictures of how it all turned out....See MoreMajor Restoration Hardware Fail, Need Quality Manufacturer
Comments (4)I could not agree more that the "style" of RH is wonderful. It's exactly what we wanted which is why we purchased so much of it. I honestly don't even care that their markup is a bit higher as long as it's exceptional quality. Unfortunately it is not. One of the rumors we've heard about RH is that they have all their showroom furniture made in North Carolina but when a customer places an order it's much worse quality from China. I don't know this to be true but from the difference we have seen between the pieces we've received and the pieces in their store it is quite different. Canadel was recommended to us and I was able to design a dining table and chairs that look like they would be great, however I've seen some mixed reviews on their quality and am wondering if anyone else has real world experience with them. Also, as far as the sofas are concerned, I found https://www.leathergroups.com/shop/Langston-Leather-Sofa.html which is identical to the Lancaster at RH but apparently with much better build quality (hand made in CA). Experiences and opinions on this are welcome as well....See MoreIs Restoration Hardware kidding me?
Comments (86)It's easy to say "Buy American" but how many of you would pay double for an item to do that? I do. All the time. A jeweler once admonished me to use local talent - otherwise someday when I needed something it wouldn't be there. I have taken this to heart. We're all responsible for how other people are treated. We're all responsible for the things we buy. Shamefully most of the electronics we use Coltan - which is (generally) obtained in deeply unethical ways requiring a price in life and blood that if most people knew about would look in askance at our throwaway culture of electronics. But for most other stuff you can generally find a way to not buy the thing that requires an other person live in misery. My avoidance of things made in China isn't born of racism. The Chinese are as capable of putting out an amazing work of art/carpet/tile/sink (or in this case plate) as anyone else in the world. I don't (currently) trust their business practices and I don't like the way their workers are treated. When you buy something from the US or Italy or France or Germany or someplace with actual labor laws you are (in part) paying for the fact that the man/woman who made it lives a pretty good life and has access to clean water. The factory where it was made does not throw out lead into the environment. I also don't buy carpets made in Pakistan or India because I don't think it is possible to buy carpets made there without taking part child slavery. If you can't afford the things you want in life without asking for someone else to suffer for them, maybe you should reevaluate what it is you want and what you actually need. Do you really think crack-addicted rednecks in American factories are more skilled than Chinese workers? If they're addicted to anything it's Oxy and Meth. Get your drug addictions straight. And you tell me: it's 2 AM, you're in some bigbox store because it's put all the other stores in the area out of business (and no sane proprietor would stay open to 2AM) and you need to buy a Thermos. They are both the same size, both will do the job, both are the same price. One is made in China - the other in the US. Which to you buy? If you use the fact that one was made in China and the other in the US - why? If you're saying that the "rednecks" do a worse job then I suppose you buy the one from China. Otherwise you already have your answer....See MoreRestoration Hardware Shipping Charges
Comments (15)I am just so annoyed. I called about 10 different stores all over the US trying to find a store that would waive shipping. I got the whole, well we carry that in PN not PC so no, you have to pay shipping. I could not keep track of what they did and did not carry and just ended up ordering online. I also had bought some laundry carts from the website a few weeks ago. I just noticed one had a huge grease mark on it. When I called to get someone to exchange it he gave me a full interrogation as to why it took me two weeks to open it and inspect it! I was so annoyed, if I did not have my folding station in the laundry built to accomodate these carts, I would have returned them all! Michelle16- Which store in NJ? I would love to know who is willing to do this!...See MoreFori
