With Saltillo tiles it's best keep the cabinet colors on the cool side or the room will turn orange. A white or creamy color would also work if it's not too yellow but check it with reflection from the floor tile. You could match the background in the Talaveras also.

The kitchen linked below works really well with wood cabinets and turquoise island. Also check out "House of Turquoise" blog for ideas.

You can pretty much mix any colors with that flooring.I do not have the real stuff in this house but did in my last and used eggplant, yellow/orange, blues...a little of every color. Saying that though, my cabinets were a neutral color but due to the fact the floor was a strong tone I went bolder on wall paints and art work. Natural or med tone woods look nice as well.

Saltillo tile is usually set with wide grout lines so they are a strong element in the mix also. My Saltillo is set in portland cement so the lines are light gray. I am using a gray green on the cabinets but they're not done so no pictures yet.

Warm and bright colors will be great on the walls and as accents.

My friend has a dark washed green almost teal color on his cabinets. They look awesome with his saltillo. I'll try to get a photo.
The gentleman that is installing the saltillo has discussed the the grout options etc. We are doing the old fashioned grout that has been done for hundreds of years - he said this will make it easier to replace or repair any tiles if ever needed. We feel very good about his work -- Saltillo is all he does.
Do you think I could pull off some navy accents with the saltillo and Turquoise? The talavera I am leaning towards has navy, red and tan in it.

So here is a link to the tile company. I am loving the high relief tiles. Thinking about putting this tile in the niche cut out behind the range and framing it in the navy quarter round trim pieces. Then continuing the backsplash in a blanco talavera. Your thoughts?? Would this be too much with the turquoise island?

Those tiles are beautiful and navy would certainly work because both navy and turquoise are in there. The key to mixing colors is getting the percentage right. A small amount of navy trimming the tile will not overwhelm the island color.

If you can get a sample, check the tile against the Saltillo. The light terracotta looks a little peachy on the monitor. It really depends on how close it is, but you want it to work with the floor. When you have Saltillo you can't ignore the floor.

Anyone have any thoughts on what color stain the cabinets in the "Mexican Kitchen" ( link above) may be? We are planning the perimeter cabinets in a rift cut oak and would like a good color stain to compliment the saltillo, preferably a darker color. Again the island will be either stained SW 3138k or painted turquoise (color undecided), with a dark glaze.

Could not find the stain colors on the SW website so can't see which stain you've already selected.

The cabinets in the linked kitchen are knotty alder but it's hard to tell what the stain color is from a photo. Stains like an espresso color would look good. A stain with a bit of black to emphasize the grain and trim is quite common in the look you are going for.

Sherwin Williams has a paint called Turquish (SW 6939) that exactly matches my turquoise pendant. It's a good reference color to carry around even if you don't go that literal on the turquoise.

Lowe's Valspar paint has colors from the La Fonda Inn that work great as a reference. Some of them match my Saltillo so I carry the paint chips around instead of actual tile.

The stain color is also called Auquarius - it is a Turquoise colored stain - -not sure if I will do that or a paint on the island - -just thought it was different.

Interesting that I'm also trying to decide between a stain or paint on my island. Looking at Turquish, but may go a little more green. While you're at it you should pull the 6761 Thermal Spring.
