Trying to decide on BS before counters are installed because it seems all of the tile that I have found have a 5 week lead time. White Cabinets, counters calacatta (big slab with movement is what I want to do on island and slabs with less movement on perimeter.) The little white slab sample under the tile is mystery white quartzite just to give you a color idea. FYI- that big spot in mystery white was my soy sauce test that failed miserably. Wall color you can see is light tan on the buttery side. Tiles are all crackle, shape will just be subway but one of the colors just had fancy shape as a sample. Thanks a million!!!

I cant really vote...those are the tiniest photos, when I try to enlarge they get too pixelated. Any chance you have slightly larger pictures?

What color floors and appliances?

hunt7191, I love your colors. They are exactly what I would choose. Your slab is divine. Wall color is perfection. I think I would choose the middle tile in the first photo. It seems to pick up the gray in your slab. It's contrast but not too much. Seriously beautiful slab and fabulous color palette.

Edited to add: I just saw another post of yours that discussed different perimeter counters. I had thought you were using the marble throughout. If you have something darker on the perimeter, or a different shade, I might have to change my vote from the gray tile to something else.

The green paint and the wood are the unifying factors in this kitchen. Loss of the green would be a loss but increasing the wood trim to make an apron below the windows would counterbalance the loss and would give the window the same aesthetic that is given in picture frame matting--the deeper matt is at the bottom of the frame. You would need some good wood finish that can tolerate the moisture and you would need to train the family to be diligent about caring for the wood. Once the hutch area is finished, you will feel the weight that it makes on the right side of the wall and will be glad to have the wood under the window to match it. Unfortunately, you would have to figure out what to do with those outlets under the window, sigh. I don't think that more little tiles will improve your design. If you need it for reason of utililty under the window, keep it as minimal as possible. Retain as much green as you can. This color will complement the view out the window and would enhance the look of foods. Bring in more of the green when you can--hand towels, a vase on the mixer wall, green stuff in the hutch if the hutch has glass in the doors, etc. ____ I need to think hard about my own advice. It applies to me as well. Am trying to decide about continuing the tile from a stove area to the space below a bank of windows on the next wall. I think I agree with other posters here--it's better to have the paint. Will I take this advice myself?

Sully, I'm pretty sure it's tumbled noce. There are other names for the same stone, so I can find them out for you if you like. It just looks a lot different with the light grout. It is hard to picture which is why I sent the pic to xoxosmom. I don't think it would look right in her kitchen. Darker grout would look better with the darker cabinets IMO! I don't know the name of the grout color but it is almost white and changes the look completely. But thanks for the compliment!

I like #2 best - exciting, fun, asymmetrical, more interesting that the standard #1 (which is more typical and problably why the tile guy suggested it). I totally agree with lolauren and think you designed it a certain way originally b/c that is what you wanted. He talked you out of it but clearly you still have doubts. I would TOTALLY have it re-done. Now or never. It would annoy me to no end to settle for something that wasn't quite right and not what I originally wanted. Sure, if the tile guy made the change and you ended up loving it, that's be one thing but that's just not the case here. (Can you tell I'm a little opinionated and picky for that matter.) Follow your gut.

Hi Sauceyc, I see you got your Heath samples! I think based on the feel you want for your kitchen - beachy/funky/cool, the photos (which admittedly are hard to tell without seeing the real thing), I think you should go with the glass tiles in a colour similar to the French Gray. Somehow, I think that you are being lured by other backsplash options when you and your hubby are really feeling the glass, and it goes with the theme that you want. You just need to be able to feel confident that you've exhausted other options. Colour - I think the colour of the taupe glass tiles look like a "mistake" whereas the French Gray compliments your granite better. I think that having slight colour differences between the countertops and backsplash are okay. But I think that when you have busier, colourful granite like us, you need to pull a similar colour from the granite to tie it in, or risk everything looking too busy. Your beautiful Lennon granite has an undertone to it which seems to conflict with the taupe. See how your paint goes so well with the granite? I think you should find a glass tile that compliments your granite like your walls do. This is a glass tile we were considering. See how it "goes" with the granite so well in terms of colour? Pattern - I also wanted to comment on the pattern which you know very well, I LOVE. I know you like the running pattern of the Heath tiles and that my La Cornue ad inspired you which is great. I'll have to be honest that I'm concerned whether the pattern will work with your particular layout. The running pattern naturally "falls" from top left to bottom right, which gives a slight feeling of movement, which requires overall symmetrical cabinetry. Your range wall, while symmetrical in turns of the upper and lower cabs, has the fridge to the left which is a strong piece in stainless steel. I'm worried that it will look unbalanced...just thinking aloud here. Again, this is my two cents, I'm not a designer. Please take my opinion and consider with the others, as well as your own, because it is merely an opinion and I want YOU to feel comfortable with your decision!!! Do you have a designer you can consult with? It sounds like you feel pressured to make a decision before you're ready. Many people have said to me on this forum that I should take as long as I need.

Hi OOTM, sorry, I'm a first time photo user and opened flikr so I could use this site lol. My appliances are all stainless including hood except paneled fridge. Floors are a dark wood.

Linelle, thanks for the kind words. I just don't think I can do the perimeter different after all. I'm really just going to try for bland calacutta on the perimeter to not compete with island. I have not secured this slab but have seen several like it. I told the tile guy about my paint color and of course his response is to pick the tile you like and repaint to whatever matches. That doesn't work when your entire home is painted in the same color and all of your furniture, rugs etc are also in the same warm tones. I love grey but I can't do a lot of it because of the coolness. I thought that second tile that you had mentioned (it actually has a greenish undertone called pumice from waterworks) isn't too cool and may work. Thanks for your input!

I like the gray one on the bottom right when it's stacked on the cabinet in front of the slab. Gorgeous slab, I hope you get one just like it!

I think the gray will look good as it will pull out the gray in the slab while the wall colour will relate to the gold tones in the slab. Very nice!

If you use a bland perimeter without all that color and movement, I think the marble may be fairly white. The non-gray tiles may look too yellow. I would go with something a bit more off white or white. Your tiles look great next to the island slab, but that is not where the tile is going to be. The tile is going to be adjacent to the perimeter slabs.

I do like the gray though for the perimeter especially if your slabs turn out to be fairly monochromatic/white.

Love your island slab. It's a very beautiful slab!

Hmmm, I like the creamier bottom tile in first picture with your cab and wall, but I like the contrast provided by the gray in the pict with the slab. And of course you cant really trust colors on monitors most of the time...but if I had to pick, I think I'd go creamier, the one just a shade lighter than your wall color. I do love the combinations of the wall color cabs and that gorgeous slab!

And thanks for the bigger pictures. You're ahead of me, I still add them one at a time...something I must solve before my final reveal!

Thank you so much for your detailed input. I haven't seen many kitchens with Calacatta on all counter surfaces so it's been kind of difficult to visualize. It truly is amazing how creamy tiles turn pink or yellow against my walls!!

If you choose the grey, you should be fine with your unchosen perimeters. If you choose a white/cream, you should wait until you actually choose your slab as whites can be tricky to match. You may even want to wait until they are installed, in your lighting.
The Calacatta is gorgeous.

I definitely think the grey/tan/taupe subway tile goes best because there is better contrast. The creamy yellow doesn't go as well with the cabinets.

Gorgeous selections - I don't think you can go wrong with any of those tiles with the cabinets and counters.

My favorite is the unique shape tile. I think that will look unique and gorgeous!

If you go for just the straight subway/rectangular shape, I am a fan of the middle one in the first picture, I believe it's the same as the bottom right tile in the bottom picture. (more gray than cream?)
