HOW does this happen??? I kept thinking that the fabricator would do things right (since the GC And KD haven't communicated, but they do have me to chase everything down for them and act as the liaison)...the fabricator does this all the time. Right?? And he did..or so it seemed. He came, he measured, he measured twice, we talked about the edge and style (since it hadn't been communicated to him..um yeah). and he was gone in a swirl of Turkish cigarette smoke. And I had hope. I had dreams. My hard-won/searched/bartered-for brushed black pearl arriving on time, and with a beautiful edge, floating effortlessly atop my creamed shaker cabinets with the proper molding (reordered) and beautiful brushed nickle pulls (wrong finish initially sent, returned and replaced). ahh...I was so full of hope, leaving my frantic office today to arrive home to.....CHAOS! a roomful of men, frowning. Not one would meet my eye. Working to finish what they could. One on the phone, with counter measurements in front of him, speaking in tongues (sorry, Turkish I'm getting carried away.). Shattered. Dreams. Damn! (sorry) Darn!

Why, why, why, why, why, why, oh why? is everything a chore and hassle. We' hiring professionals. we're paying ten's of thousands??? Why can't it be right!?!?!?

so. One piece miss-measured. Could have (should have) been caught. I mean really 21" counter width?? C'mon. Someone somewhere out of all the eyes that should look at those measurements would say: Hey! Wait a sec. this indicates 21" where surely it's at least 25" (counter width) since it's drawn beyond the width of the counter? Right??

No? really?

No need to try to understand. What's here is beautiful. We'll just wait for that final piece (which they better have!!!!!) OMG..what if they don't have more slab?

Where's my wine. My rant is over.

Bummer - but we failed our first install due to an avalanche. The end result was perfect!

Sorry to hear of your troubles. When I hear stories like this I count my blessings because I did not have one single problem during my reno. Keeping my fingers crossed for you that they will have another slab and get it installed soon.

Don't take this the wrong way, but I do think you are being too picky and anal retentive about the Suzuki. Starting on three pulls is fine by me, and I have owned more than a dozen Suzuki's, including about half which were Commercial Prolines such as the 22040 and 22043. Yours is an early Consumer model and probably only has a choke. Later models also had a primer button because the Mikuni carb often wouldn't flow enough fuel when cold. However, if you're starting with three pulls, you got no complaints. Also, You are not doing your engine any favors by running 32:1. Toro and Suzuki have recommended 50:1 since day one (mid 1980's) and oils were not as good 30 years ago. They also approved TCW-3 oils. Before you or other readers go nuts about the TCW-3 recommendation, keep in mind that this is a relatively low revving 2 stroke. It's governed at 3600 rpm and has a max speed of 3900 or 4000 rpm. This is not a high end string trimmer turning 10,000 rpm or a chain saw doing 12,000 rpm. Suzuki knew what they were doing. Lastly, I disagree with the previous poster about premium fuel. Usually I find him well informed and on point, but not in this case. Premium doesn't run "hotter" or "cooler", just has less tendency to knock and preignite, Main potential advantage to premium is that it is sometimes available without the 10% ethanol. And ethanol is bad news for the rubbers and elastomers in the carburator. Ethanol is also hygroscopic (attracts water) and the resulting moisture will attack aluminum and zamak carburetor parts. If the premium has ethanol, it's then no better or worse than regular gasoline. My recommendation would be to run ethanol free gas where possible, stay with recommended 50:1 oil premix, and use a high quality oil. A synthetic is great, but really not needed. As for Marvel oil. It won't hurt anything, but I'm not as sold on it as some people. If you start having a lot of trouble starting (8 to 10 pulls), then it may be time to look at the crankshaft seals. These are relatively cheap ($7 to $10) each, but a major job to fully disassemble and replace. BTW, if you want the Toro/Suzuki manual (492-0260), send me an email, and I'll bounce back with a PDF.

Mantis;yes they were all taken about 12;00pm, noon. Your seedlings are beautiful. I'm sorry to hear about your losses. I have a few shrubs that aren't looking to well this year due to too much rain and will most likely lose them. Fortunately they're common and cheap to replace if I decide to. And one shrub I lost due to the boyfriend not paying any attention, I had a small forsythia and it kind of blended in with the grass (grass is tall because the yard is too wet to mow), and he mowed it over with the mower. I'm waiting to see if it'll come back but not likely. It was given to me by our neighbor. I guess I'm going to have to cut the grass from now on if I don't want anything else killed or damaged, he gets in too much of a hurry to get the mowing done. Karen

I have two friends who wanted to give me a shower for my third child. I insisted very strongly to them that I did not need a shower, nor did I want one. Where I come from this is just not done! I thanked them profusely for wanting to, but I insisted on them not giving me a shower. Well, they surprised me with a shower, a lovely little dinner out with about 10 people, neighbors and friends who weren't around when we had the first two, since we had lived in a different state then. I was overwhelmed with emotion. So grateful that I had friends who wanted to do this for me, who wanted to celebrate my third child in this way. They went to a lot of trouble for me and I will never forget it. Let them throw you the shower. Amy

Ach! When cutting such an expensive and unforgiving material, you'd think they'd be more careful. Posts like this make me happy for DIYing. It means I can't have granite, but I also avoid these headaches.

So sorry today's dream was shattered and I sure hope you can find that new perfect slab! I hope you can enjoy your wine, and let the guy who screwed this up have the headache, since it's his problem to solve now.

HOW FRUSTRATING!!!

I'm so sorry.

What exactly is the KD doing to earn her $, btw? And the GC doesn't feel the need to make sure it's all going according to plan?

My GC wouldn't let anyone in my house to work on ANYTHING (including the sliding glass door that wasn't even a part of the kitchen reno, technically) without him being on site and watching them like a hawk.

Don't stress. Enjoy the wine and let them figure it out.

Chardonnay tonight... thank you. The GC is really REALLY good..it's the communication from the KD to the project manager (did I mention they are brothers!?!?!?) to the GC. Somehow, it's going to work out..I know it will.

The PM sat with us for a while this evening going over things since he "sensed my frustration today." Haha. Good one.
The fabricator called him while he was here to say..not to worry he has more of our granite it will be fine. So I keep looking at the part that's in and grinning like a silly school girl.

AND I feel better now. Just in time to do an emergency zipper replacement on my daughters prom dress. oh yes, the fun just never ends.. and this means I can only have one glass of wine.
Oh and my DH has completely sworn off any more projects and I'm secretly feeling like I've just gotten my feet wet....

Whoa, makes me want to go watch my fabricator cut my slab with a template in place! Enjoy the wine, but mostly, enjoy the magic of your daughter in her prom dress (rescued by her mother). They grow up too fast.

Glad that you love what's been installed. I usually imagine things so vividly that it takes me a while to "accept" the reality.

Just breath, this too shall pass. Sorry about your frustration! But the end result will be amazing. I get to fly up next week end meet with our countertop guys so believe me I'm taking notes, compiling a list developed from every botched job I've read about on GW. Fingers crossed that this part of our remodel will live up to our vision, so far so good but we've had complete control so far since DH has done everything. Hope your next encounter with the wine glass will be a toast of congratulations in a finished kitchen

Thank you tanjo (and all)! We're almost there. My actual worry right now is that they will call today and tell me they will be here late afternoon to install..just when my daughter's prom photos are being taken!! And, peaking of perfect storms..there's supposed to be one here early evening to late evening Oh the joy!
