I like what you've done! If it were my room, I'd likely stain the mantle a darker shade to more match the other woodtones in the room.

What a warm and cozy space!! I wonder, is there is enough room to add another chair to the right of the fireplace? The club chair/ottoman look so comfy, but they seem a little isolated from the conversation area. I know the position of the sliders pretty much prohibits that chair from getting closer to the sectional, so why not give him a friend to keep him company by the lovely fire??

Darkening the mantel like charlie suggests would be great!

Karezz, I think your room looks lovely. The trim in the room is white, so the mantel could stay white or be stained. At first, I wondered about adding another chair, but realized it would block the door.
You might want to consider the chunky black candle holders that were suggested to Oakley. You could buy any that size and paint them black. Putting them on the mantel would tie in with the fireplace screen.
Later, you might consider getting smaller speakers or moving them. The ones you have now seem to take up a lot of room. If you already have enough seating, then please ignore that comment ;)

Karezz, your hearth looks lovely as is, except for the tiny fire tools, which you've already mentioned. Longer, more substantial wrought iron tools set on one side would look better, of course! The basket is a tidy way to keep your logs contained. If you want something else to dress up the hearth area only, you might want to consider something like this, set on the side. Otherwise, I don't see that any changes are necessary. You have a warm and inviting space.

I'm not very good at accesorizing, but I do have a suggestion, on my monitor the white seems very stark in contrast to the warm colors of your room, what about painting the closet doors and trim, the slider door and trim and the window trim on the hearth windows the green that's on the trim of your pass through (or another warm color)? I like strong color doors and they add a custom look IMO.

Really, it looks good now. If you want to tweak: maybe a larger hearth rug, although it might not be the fire-resistant kind; larger tool set, as you said; and I agree about darkening the mantel.

I wish my FR were in such an advanced state of readiness. And BTW, I just order an entertainment cabinet similar to yours, and so was glad to see what you've done on top.

Thanks all. I like the idea about painting the white trim....but it's a bigger job than you might think. Whatever gets painted in the family room also needs to get painted in the kitchen. The problem is that the new windows in my kitchen have white hardware and inside trim so painting the moulding on them would look weird.
The mantle has actually been painted. It used to be off-white, now it's fauxed...can't really tell from the picture! I had it custom built and wish I had made it larger...oh well.
Thanks for all the comments. I'll leave the plant out of there and get larger tools. Maybe more pillows for the chair/loveseat.

Yes -- I do agree with the other excellent suggestions about a darker color for the mantel. But I do love the fresh white trim throughout the rest of the space!

Yes -- another chair for the corner would be very nice too!

And I would add that you might consider simply raising the pretty valances up a few inches -- keep the top of the window trim covered BUT raise the valance as high as you can! Just to add some visual height and balance to the whole wall.
