window treatments and wall color

How do you think my panels look in this dining room? Is it weird looking to have just one panel on each side of the window... I like light and don't want to cover the windows up....would valances work better? If so, what style and color? Also, if I were to repaint the dining room, how would raspberry truffle work as a color? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The one panel on each window does look a little weird. I would extend the panels to the end of your wall to the corner and then the other side to match. Your windows would look much bigger. I dont know how tall your ceilings are but I would take the rod up higher as well. I think a raspberry truffle would work out very nicely with your rug since it is a blue red. I dont really care for blue dining rooms anyway. If I can mention one other thing, your buffet with the mirror looks great but you have too many little objects on it. I would also get a larger mirror and not have the little pictures beside the mirror, hope you dont mind that I mentioned that.

I agree that you need two panels for each window, and then set them further out so you don't cover the window. Your dining room is very rich looking and more fabric will be in keeping with the look. Some largish greenery as a centerpiece might look nice, too. Pretty room.

In my experience, rich, clear ivory walls without too much yellow, and bright white trim, make a wonderful background for blue and brown. You rarely see a third clear color used in a successful blue-and-brown scheme. The trick with that combination is to warm it up a bit. The turquoise will likely make a shade of gray look dirty and a bit drab. It would be hard to go wrong with BMoore's Linen White, or even Atrium White, if you want it very pale, for the walls, and Decorators White for the trim. Just the tiniest bit of contrast there, to make it look crisp. Alternatively, if you wanted to keep a cool blue environment, you might try BMooire's Seafoam, which is a very pale aqua, with Super White trim...like one of those perfect Brooks Brothers striped summer shirts in pale aqua and white. If you like that idea, you might also follow justgotabeme's suggestion and add floor length white linen or raw silk curtains (something with a little weight and texture) hung out to the sides of the window from a slender black iron rod mounted at the ceiling. Blue and brown always need a few touches of black, particularly with the white! Then if there is room, I'd consider moving the two pictures to either side of the dresser, and adding a full-length mirror to the wall to the right of the bed as you look at the photo. And if you REALLY want to jazz up the joint, paint the walls Atrium White, and add 8-inch wide Seafoam stripes, a foot apart, all the way around the room! (Okay...I got carried away...)

A few more questions: Are the windows all the same height down from the top of the ceiling? I'd prefer to see the WTs all start from the same height around the room. Do you want to be able to open/close the lace inner curtains or put inside mount on a cafe type rod? I would assume the lace curtains could stay inside mount, but if you layer another treatment over that it would go outside mount and the sofas would need to be pulled away from the walls. Not sure how well that would work as opposed to another type of shaded treatment--which would be my personal vote.

What's your favorite color? I'd add that to the room in the drapery fabric and use it as an accent color in the art and table dressing. Here they used coral against the neutral backdrop. One with blue One with gold One where they kept the whole color scheme neutral. But note how the color scheme is used throughout each room...the rug, the upholstery, the drapes, the art, the table dressing. Some are more soothing, some more vibrant. Think about the mood you want to set. Once you pick a color scheme...or flip through houzz and find an inspiration room, it will help guide your decisions.

I agree that your wall color is throwing everything off. Warm and cool are tough to blend. You can make it look intentional by finding some patterned items and accessories that have warm tones and silver mixed together but in your case I think painting is the easiest solution. The same issue will happen if you pick gray floors. I would pick a light/medium brown/beige toned LVT with minimal pattern. There are tons of LVT choices. Have you decided on a brand yet? Wood look or tile look? Definitely bring the art down to people height. There is a tendency to want to "fill up" taller walls by hanging decorative items very high. But if you decorate nicely at people height, the tall ceilings and walls will look light and airy, not bare. If you decide on a new rug, try to get one big enough to fit the furniture. The rug you have now is pretty but is more suited to an entry or dining area because of the shape.

roseabbey. thanks for your help. I do have higher ceilings and had wondered if the panels should be hung higher...I will move them to the side of the windows in each corner and see how that looks...should I keep them on the long rod or perhaps use a short rod to place them on each side of the window? The little pictures on each side of the mirror are tole trays...I will move them and see how that looks....the items on the buffet are just sentimental items and can certainly be moved elsewhere... thanks so much for your information.

as for the color of the panels, would there be a better color for the room, keeping in mind that the room may be painted raspberry truffle. Thanks for all your help.
