Would you "buy ahead" for remodel in 2 yrs?

When we redid the upstairs I went with 4 panel doors with shaker sticking (panel edges aren't trimmed with any molding, the edges are square and in a 2 over 2 configuration).

I wanted simple hardware so I chose Emtek Providence with a rectangular rosette in black (it seems weird to call it a rosette if it isn't round).

Emtek isn't cheap, but I couldn't find much available in solid black and they felt so good. In 2 years we plan to do the first floor and replace the hollow core doors and brass bell shaped door knobs. I'll need 7 interior and 4 exterior sets.

An online store has a sale on Emtek and I am tempted to buy them now, since their prices are $20 less for the interior sets ($60-ish instead of $80-ish per knob).

Should I? Or is it too early to buy ahead for a renovation so far ahead? I could theoretically use the exterior sets today ... Though we will replace 3 of the 4 exterior doors when we do that project.

I'd do it. You'll want to match what you have upstairs anyway; prices won't get lower over the years; Emtek could end production of that line or go out of business even.

If you've done extensive shopping and this is the cheapest price you've found for the hardware and you don't need the funds for anything else, I would buy it and stockpile it. A 25% savings is substantial.

Chills,I have another Larger one,and I will have cuttings from that one if someone wants. The spot where This Sal,is I need it to plant,a Violette de Bordeaux,there. The spot where Celeste is I am going to plant my Kathleen Black. You see We have so much room.I am trying to have one cultivars each from all best tasting and producing figs. The wall button should have a white wire and a white wire w/ a red tracer. Hook the red wire to the red quick connect on the back of the opener and hook the white wire to the white quick connect right next to the red one. ( Should be the two quick connects furthest to the left) The photo eye wires will have a white wire and a white wire with a black tracer. Hook the two white wires to the other white terminal and the black wires to the black terminal.

In general, don't buy ahead. Buying something like an aga, which is a major, central decision, for layout, design and tone, is one thing. Most people aren't deciding between an aga kitchen or a sleek induction cooktop at the last minute, right? But there are many reasons to hold off buying most everything else. Even though you SWEAR you love it and have loved it for ages and won't change your mind. Projects get delayed. This is fact. Warehouses can lose things, or have forklifts back into them. Yes, they may pay up in the end, but do you really need the hassle? Can't you just wait until the sale you KNOW they're going to have 3 months later? Measurements change and you may need a different amount (for something like tile, or an extra lighting fixture). There are all kinds of reasons you might suddenly need more that are not within your control. Things get lost, damaged or stolen. Or the pieces that go with them do, and you can't prove they were never sent, because the stuff arrived a year ago. They can go out of warranty while they sit waiting to be installed. Or become discontinued, or the company doesn't support that line any more and you can't return it, or ask questions or get the trim kit etc. And, believe it or not, your tastes can change. Or a company can bring out something that is just better. Or better AND cheaper. Or you need to move, or you have a baby or something else happens. A few things -- fine. If you find a really unbeatable deal on something you know you're going to need, you might spring. But don't fill the basement. People say "Craigslist" but you only get a small portion of what you paid. I used a lot of antique lighting, which you don't just go out in a day and buy, so I bought some stuff ahead. But I was very, very glad that I did not buy some things I was tempted to. Even though my tastes didn't change, things I couldn't have predicted changed things enough that I would have not ordered right. A good contractor should keep you well informed so you can order things at the right times. Tell him if you're looking at something, like custom tile or cabinets, that take an unusually long time to order and must be made in a single lot. Good luck!

How does your husband feel about taking in just the kids? My BIL and SIL are bipolar. We've seen so much with them! As long as your daughter is NOT taking her meds, she'll never have a "normal" enough life. She'll never get her life back on track. My first priority would be my grandchildren cuz they're too young to help themselves and have no choice but to live this life of hell. Maybe talk to your husband about taking in just the kids for awhile until your daughter gets her life together and starts by helping herself first. It must be really hard for her to do so with 2 kids. That's if she WANTS to help herself! My brother and his wife have full custody of their two grandchildren (3 and 6), been almost 2 years. Their son is a drug dealer (the father) and the mother is a bipolar drug addict. They are not together as a couple and never have been. The youngest child was born a crack baby. The son doesn't do drugs, just sells it. My SIL fought tooth and nail to get both the mother to sign over parental rights. The family has been through hell and is still going through it because no matter what the mother does to screw up her kids' lives, the law is on her side. The father, however, can only have supervised visits cuz of the way he treated the mother. He slapped her once to "snap her out of a fit" while she was high. He has "straightened" her out several times but she keeps going back to drugs. Fast forward to today.... the father is a good father to the kids (actually the oldest is not his bio child but he loves him like his own) and does everything for them. They are spoiled rotten! The mother calls the oldest and tells him lies about his grandmother (my SIL) and tries to get him to spy on them for "ammunition against them". My SIL then tries to explain to him why his mother is acting like this but that she still loves him. The poor kid is so screwed up emotionally that he wants to talk to a judge cuz he says he doesn't know who to believe anymore and knows a judge wouldn't lie. He's had counsellors before too but the mother is just damaging him so bad. So much so that just yesterday, in fact, my SIL went to court to get a court order for the mother to have "no contact" with her kids. She didn't win cuz she didn't have enough evidence. She has appealed. I told my SIL that she should have the oldest talk to this judge so she could see for herself. With Children's Aid, the courts, etc.... it seems that they protect the mother more than they protect the kids. Which is a real shame! It seems that Children's Aid, the court, etc., seem to "forget" that the youngest was born a crack baby! The mother has more drug charges then the father, including other charges, and still the law is more on her side! The only reason why my SIL and brother got full custody of the kids was because my SIL found out that the mother was using someone else's urine for her mandatory drug tests. Just before they were to enter the court room, my SIL's lawyer requested a drug test (hair) right away. Test proves positive and her lawyer told her she'd lose the case so make it easier and sign away her rights. And she did. All the best to you! Check out these sites. Absolutely, for the reasons awm mentioned and one more - it's not like you're buying a bathtub that will be sitting in the middle of your living room waiting for the remodel!! you can stash the hardware pretty easily till you need it.

I'd do it - this isn't something where new technology is likely to come out that you would want instead or where there is a warranty. Also they don't need excessive storage space and aren't likely to be damaged by storage. (These are all the reasons I can think of that one might not want to buy something ahead.)

Just make sure you stash it somewhere that you will be able to find it when you start the remodel! "I know I bought that to use later, but now I can't find it" is a pain. Perhaps make a file to keep with your remodel notes on where you have stored them and anything else that you buy ahead.

I love the hardware choice. We felt that way about the Schaub pulls we used in our kitchen. They feel so nice and we use them every day.

If you have room to store them and are set on them for the remodel, do it. I have stacks of tile waiting for my master bathroom remodel and kitchen remodel. I wanted my master to match another bathroom in the house that I remodeled first and was afraid the tile could be discontinued, so I bought enough for both bathrooms. Similarly, I tiled my entry which is near my kitchen with the same tile I plan to use for my kitchen, so I bought enough for both spaces. The tile for my kitchen and entry is natural stone, so it's important to get it in the same batch to avoid a mismatched look. I have the space to store the tile and it's worth it to me! So yes, absolutely.

By the way, I bought Emtek interior knobs & back plates also in black & a similar design for our remodel four years ago. They've held up great: no rattling, solid feel, & the finish looks the same as the day they were bought. Very happy with Emtek.

I know how happy you'll be to get rid of those hollow doors & brass bell-shaped knobs. I'd wanted new doors & knobs for 12 years. The new ones have a nice heft & feel so solid. The doors are also 4 panel, but aren't nearly as beautiful as yours! I kept an old hollow flush door & rattle-y, cheap knob to our basement rec room just for a reminder of how much nicer we've made our house.

I'd get them and install them. You don't have to continue to be offended by your old knobs while you wait for the doors to be replaced. Plus you won't lose them. :)

I'd definitely buy ahead. You plan to remodel in two years and believe me, two years will be here before you know it. If, for some unforeseen reason, you end up not doing the remodel, you can always resell. Lovely choices, by the way!

Buy them now but test them to be sure they work. Might be hard to get a refund in 2 years.
