Paintguy and Christopherm, Sorry to hijack this but I am impressed with you comments and want to know more. Paintguy what makes Superpaint just OK; why is Cashmere better to you? Same question to Christopherm, please. This will be important when I finally do pick a paint. I painted with 11 brands over my painting life and maybe 1-3 types under each brand (counted them last night) when trying to remember which I liked best I kept going back to what characteristics I hated. During application, #1 hate was crap in the paint, having to prestrain. (see note on this at the bottom). #2 was running and the list goes on and on..doesn't level, too thick, too thin, etc. Post painting performance has it's own list...poor cleaning, chipping (see note at bottom), suedeing, barnishing; it goes on and on. So what makes Superpaint OK and Cashmere better besides the $10 price difference? ...during painting and after painting performance. Need to strain: I visited a paint manufacturer plant and saw something that explained it to me. The idiot did not open the bag of chemical and dump it in the batch, he slit the bag and throw the whole bag in. The paper pulp from the bag was what I was picking out of their paint. Chipping: Did a lot of research on this..testing many primer/paint combos. Finally concluded that it had to do with the reaction of some primers with specific paints and of the primer with the substrate. OH I am not at all against fans. LOL One house we put one in every room and TWO in the kitchen. The only rooms missing ceiling fans was laundry and bathroom. Neither had room for one as they were too small. We had the manufactures home builder add the wiring for two ceiling fans one in living room and one in our bedroom. I can always change the chandy in the dinning room for another fan but it is the ONE light fixture my husband likes so it will stay. What I did do was buy two ceiling fans that matched the light fixtures that came with the house. AND THEN I got rid of all but two of them ROFLMBO. Well it is fine I have four lights kind of in a row that all match or are same glass in the shades. The light over the kitchen sink was not good for me and I found the one we have now at the DUMP. I love it and have never seen one with a downward facing light like this one has. You can turn one or the other lights on or both at the same time and that is the way I leave it. I have a crystal chandy in my studio because it has wonderful light. And three task lights one on glass cutting table one at grinder and one on my desk. And an antique light similar to the kitchen light in my sewing room. Yep I would say I am a person of lights. Here is a link that might be useful: And wow my kitchen was boring then. Hi! Here's an update on paint colors I chose for my north-facing kitchen. For the doors and trim, I went with Sherwin Williams Westhighland White. I absolutely love it. It's also the color I painted my brown kitchen table. *BUT* word of caution here: we also painted the ceiling in Westhighland White flat ceiling paint and it darkened the room! My husband was very unhappy that he was going to have to repaint it as the kitchen is about 16' x 20', so it's a big ceiling. But, back to the SW's store where an employee saved my marriage by selling us a can of Extra White and I asked for it in satin because the previous ceiling (painted by a contractor with generic white) had a sheen to it. As the Extra White was applied, you could noticeably see the yellow undertones of the Westhighland White. Still love WW on the table, doors and trim, just not for the ceiling. Now for the walls. Overall, I tried 9 different samples before finding the perfect one: Sherwin Williams Natural Linen. Here's the breakdown: 1) Kilim Beige: too dark for what I was going for and gray undertones 2) Softer Tan: lighter but still too dark and I just didn't like the tone 3) Divine White: way too light 4) Patience: a bit too light and with yellow undertones, it was too close to what I'd had for years. I was looking for something new 5) Wool Skein: noticeable green undertones 6) Only Natural: a pretty shade, but in my kitchen, it presented with pink undertones which made my Santa Cecilia granite countertops look dirty! If I'd used this color, nothing would have made the kitchen look clean, ever 7) Natural Tan, and 8) Sand Dollar - can't remember why I didn't like these last two, but they just didn't work Natural Linen is the perfect shade to go with the cabinets which are that orange-y shade, it goes with the granite, backsplash, almost all my wall decor (might have to swap out a clock) and the vinyl floor. I have the popular leaf fabric (beige, gold, red) covering the window seat cushion and it even goes perfectly with that. There's just enough color in Natural Linen to contrast with the creamy Westhighland White while still keeping the room light and bright. We are still in the process of painting. I decided to go with this shower curtain. I'm going to be buying more decorative hanging clips though instead of the white plastic ones that came with it.
