help with curb appeal: exterior paint & new garage door

We are in desperate need of a new garage door, and want to repaint the house. We plan to paint the garage door same color as house. Husband wants a yellow but I prefer colors that blend into the environment a little. Would love some recommendations including specific paint colors if possible. Also want to paint the front door a bolder color like a shade of red.
For the garage door.. would a carriage house door with windows and hardware suit are style of house?
ps also working on landscaping, that is next.

This is he new garage door - those shrubs are being removed Monday, and once our water wise rebate is approved we can start new landscaping in place of the "lawn". Pinkmountain the walkway doesn't actually narrow but I agree the fact that it is narrower than and not aligned with the entryway "porch" is annoying. If we create a new front door though, we'd likely put a sidelight there or siding, so it would notnlook so strange. We are getting quotes for this now. If anyone has photoshop and could take a stab at a mockup I'd love it - I am only using my phone while nursing baby right now :) current resident, the previous owner was the son of the guy who built the house and there were some DIY changes done but most of this stuff was actually original including the garage door made of plywood over a metal frame. We are not sure when they decided to set the tub in 100 gallons of dirt/backfill (not mortar or sand). The original kitchen and layout are far from MCM it's more of a ranch than modern - no open floor plan or modern original features.but we are trying to move toward a bit more simple/contemporary look. We've had to put a lot of cash into the the house on vital things like completely new roof (tore off 3 layers of shingles and replaced all the sheathing) re-piping (corroded galvanized steel pipes) and so on... not a lot left over for aesthetics now. Some updates will have to be done over time. Where should I mount new house numbers? We currently have 2 locations one by the window and one beside the garage, we will remove those before painting and get new numbers. Would this style light be appropriate for the house? I like the idea of black door hardware and lighting too.

I like the last mock up except the windows should all be the same , I have never tried painting roof shingles but does not sound like a good idea.. Good plan to remove the bays and those awnings. If the awnings were actually controlling the light and heat from the sun just use soal dhades inside to do the same thing. Please do not paint the brick

Paint the garage door the same color as the house. The garage door isn't really a feature on your house, especially once it's a flat panel and will distract from what you are trying to do with the front door and porch. The roof is super, but it is very busy so you want to be sure not to have too many elements competing for attention. The pavers are great and will pop more once the garage door disappears into the house. You also have some really nice landscaping elements. Play all those things up, not the garage door.

Definitely remove the shutters. A metal railing would not block so much of the facade. Redoing the landscaping would give the most improvement. I prefer looser, more natural shapes for shrubs. In spite of being pruned away from the walk, the hedges give the feeling of squeezing the walk. It looks like you are fans of symmetry so I will let someone else give you ideas for that kind of landscape.

The most common colors seem to be gray and light tan.
Your roof is red, so you really have to watch what color you paint it.
A nice neutral green would also look nice, but of course, it is a personal preference.
Personally, I would tend to go with light tan house color, with gray accent color.

thank you butterfly. Emmarene, there are bricks at bottom of house but painted over, and mostly covered by shrubs, so not really noticeable. Also painted bricks around the arched windows at the right (which I dislike)

No criticism intended, but the house in the pic is bland, it's hidden behind lots of plantings, and it has a major distraction on the roof. For that image I believe a front door should be the sort of feature that draws the eye immediately without taking prisoners, and so no other feature (like a huge expanse of garage doors) should compete with that. Go for a red door and don't hold back.

thank you grubby_me, i appreciate the feedback. we need a new garage door because the ones we have are old and ugly. I originally thought just something plain to blend in (and yes, have a colored door). My husband's opinion is that the garage door should be somewhat dressed up because we are at the end of a cul-de-sac and when you drive down it the first thing you see is our garage.

I'm one that believes that a real budget needs to be allocated for garage doors that are a large part of your facade. We have a front facing garage and a detached rear garage. We did custom Spanish wood garage doors for our spanish style house. People would stop their cars and comment that they couldn't believe new garage doors could make such a change in the look of a house.
