It is so NOT a huge deal! The most important thing is to be consistent in your MOOD, not your finish. In other words, if your bath has a vintage feel, stick with a light with a vintage feel. If your bath has a sleek and modern feel, go for a fixture that's sleek and modern.

I purposely mixed polished chrome and brushed bright nickel and it looks great. I prefer the polished chrome for faucets, shower fittings, etc and a brushed finish for lighting.

Exactly what sweeby said. I mixed brushed nickel, brushed stainless, and chrome in my main/guest bathroom. I love it. In another bathroom I have brushed nickel and brushed stainless, and then went with ORB floor registers because they blended well with the gray/charcoal/silver slate/quartzite floors.
