Walk-in Closet Paint Color

Hi! We are converting a sitting room off the master bedroom into a dressing room for me. On one wall is two built-in oak armoires to be stained a dark walnut flanking a built-in vanity table with a window over it. Opposite is an angled ceiling under which will be built-in drawers. The center of the room is open and is about 5 feet by 6 feet. The wall linking the drawer wall with the armoire wall has two large windows. The wall opposite the windows contains a pocket door into the master bedroom. We use this sitting room to walk into the bedroom. My dilemma is the paint color. The ceiling (sort of a beadboard) and trim will be painted white. I would like to go with a light celery or pale artichoke for the remaining wall color. My husband would prefer me to go with a creamy white/neutral more in keeping with the master bedroom wall. If this were a windowless box of a room, I'd have no trouble with that. But I'm really hung up on going with the pale green. Any thoughts out there? Thanks!

Does the MB have accents of celery green/pale artichoke in it now that would tie it to the dressing room color? This is what you truly want, so you can make the two rooms flow together that way. The easy answer is to paint the dressing room the same color as the MB or a shade or two up or down on the same color strip.

No, the MB does not have accent colors. We're not really doing the MB. It's been the same color for 10 years (sort of a pale cream with a pinkish undertone) and we're not planning on painting the room just yet. If we did/do repaint the MB, we are likely to keep it a very similar color. We're doing this closet room now because in January we will be redoing the master bathroom which is on the other end of the room from the walk-through closet room. The general scheme in the master bathroom will be creamy tones with the dark walnut cabinetry and -- I'm hoping -- accents with very pale blues/bluish purples/silvery blues, sort of like the blues found in oyster/mollusk shells.

Personally I would paint the inside of the closet white/cream so if you ever change your bedroom wall color, the closet will always be bright and open and will coordinate with the. Edition color no matter what color that should be!

Great job so far! I like the idea of using wallpaper, but it might be a huge pain, so I’d paint. I painted my closet light gray, though it’s mostly covered by clothes and shoes now so you can barely see the paint. Might not be worth it. If you’re planning on using this as your makeup prep spot I’d invest in a nice LED mirror with a dimmer, it has been life changing for me! I also have a smaller magnifying mirror (suction cup so it isn’t permanent) and I use both of these mirrors daily. You do have a nice big window there, so floor to ceiling treatments would add a bit of flair and elegance to the room. I would go darker gray not light gray for some contrast. How about maybe even plantation shutters there? These are in my dining room but something like this would look nice.

I would go with white. My reasoning: it's a blank slate. However, function matters most, and this is purely opinion. Wallpaper -- yes, even if it's just behind your shoes. It's a small detail, but it'll make the space special. Towards what colors do you gravitate in your clothes? Choose something pretty in those tones. Again, purely opinion. And if your closet is typical, I'd only do one wall /the wall you see as you enter. If you don't want to do wallpaper, have ever tried stenciling? Very easy and cheap -- but time consuming. Yes to a sparkly light fixture. Consider your layout. What you don't want is one central overhead /a layout that'll make your head cast a shadow on the clothes. I'd also choose: - A nice rug -- either fluffy sheepskin or bright colors - A stool, maybe a fold-up style (because I am very short) - At least one valet rod so you can pull out an outfit - A mirror somewhere, if at all possible - Fancy pulls, if you have any drawers - Matching hangers in a pretty color If space allows: - A hook for "gonna wear again items" like jeans or a nightgown - A basket for dirty clothes And while you're at it, do a good clearing-out /toss things you aren't using or that don't fit. Nothing's elegant about an overstuffed closet.

I too am trying to identify the customized closet systems in my new condo, so I can buy some additional shelves. I can't believe they don't put their name or logo somewhere ! I too have those oval hanging rods, but my shelves are on moveable pegs for support (thankfully).

I meant to reply to this right when I saw it and am so glad I found the thread again! I definitely recommend that you keep it neutral. Green can have a funny effect on your skin when looking in the mirror - which I assume you'll be doing in the walk-in closet :)
Stick with a creamy color like this

Check out BM Slip. It's a barely there purple/silver. It is very sophisticated. My daughter's room was just done in this color. She is 21, and she just loves the room (when she is home from college). I'll see if I have a photo that comes close to showing it.

It's very neutral.
