Comments (34)Velvet, I am so sorry for your loss. I haven't always agreed with your advice and I think you and I exchanged some 'words' once, but it never crossed my mind to doubt that you had suffered a terrible loss or to criticise or mudsling. I know that some people in these forums will do that occasionally but I always know I can come here for help and sincere sympathy from the good people who post here. You are so well known in the forums you cannot help but find caring and empathetic words here. I am so truely sorry for your loss. Cheryl...See Moreplease recommend upholstery velvet and sources
Comments (9)Speaking from recent experience, make sure you test a sample by spilling some water on it. I had dining chairs reupholstered in a very expensive Schumacher velvet and when some water was spilled on one of the chairs it looked like acid had been spilled on it. It completely changed the color, feel and nap of the fabric. The interior designer I used stood behind her service and had all the chairs redone in another fabric. We tested all the samples we considered with water to make sure we wouldn't have the same problem again....See MoreBlue Velvet Sofa
Comments (125)We have to start renoing the upstairs by next summer so we will eventually be using that door. Also the nearest outlet is between the patterned chair and the sofa which is quite far from the tv as it is. We sat in there this afternoon and watched a movie with the kids. It was fine. The person in the patterned chair would either have to turn a little or turn the chair and they are light enough to not make it an issue. I'm hoping to find a small tv stand that is pretty close to the ground. I think it will be fine in the corner. Like k9arlene said, casters will make it easy to move it if I need to. I can't flip the furniture around because I have issues (phobias) regarding beam stability and even though we levelled the floor quite a bit, it still dips slightly toward the doors. It freaks me out even though logically I know it's fine. There's no way I'd be able to sit on the sofa with it so close to where I imagine the house will collapse from. The more furniture I put in, the more bare the walls look. I can't wait to start shopping for art! I want to thank everyone again for the input. It's been a really big help....See MoreVelvet Upholstery question for Lars
Comments (6)I assume you have the sofa that was upholstered with the 18 yards. If so, how long have you had it? If it is new, I would spray it with Scotchgard to protect it. If it is not completely clean, then this might not help so much. Here is some good information on caring for velvet. Personally, I have avoided velvet upholstery, although I do have velvet drapes and pillows. Velvet that is 79% poly 21% viscose should resist color change or fading - the viscose could fade if exposed to sunlight. Part of that depends on what color it is, as some colors fade more easily than others. Polyester is generally fiber dyed (if the fabric is a solid color), and this type of dyeing is very stable. The problem with polyester (especially velvet or chenille) when used for upholstery is that it can create static cling, depending on what you are wearing when you sit on it and what the soles of your shoes are. I'm not sure you need the extra 10 yards, unless you want to make matching pillows and/or covers for the arms and/or back of the sofa. I generally do put covers on the arms of my sofas, as they tend to get dirty more than other areas of the sofa. It is good to vacuum velvet upholstery regularly, using the brush attachment on your vacuum cleaner - or you can use a small hand-held vacuum....See Moreskyedog
