Will you help me find these fabrics?

Sheeisback_GW

I've been searching and searching for these fabrics and am coming up with nothing.

Can anyone find the plaid and floral fabric (or know the maker) in this picture from Nell Hill's book "Feather Your Nest"?

{{!gwi}}

{{!gwi}}

The floral print looks familiar to me. I keep thinking P. Kauffman but I might be making that up.

This is close to the paisley. Also wanted to mention if you have a facebook account and go to the nell hill page, you can ask in the comment section about their fabrics and prices and they respond pretty fast. I think in their photo album they have a pic of a bed with a lot of these fabrics. If you don't have a facebook account then open one just so you can drool! She has tons of pics! Here are a few from the "winter nap" album. Think of it as bedroom eye candy!

Kmcg - Oh thank you! I'm drooling. There's that gorgeous flower fabric again. Must use that fabric and a plaid. I love all those other fabrics too. That paisley one looks like a match to the original photos.

I got rid of my fb account about a year ago because I was spending too much time on it..... You don't know how bad you're tempting me to join again.

I'm glad they respond on there. I sent them an email last week and haven't heard anything.

I think I just figured out what you might have done to cause your search to not work correct. Go to Google, click on the word Images next to the word Search at the top left of the Google window. From your hard drive, drag the image (after you've saved it there) into the Image search window (shown below). Add the word 'fabric' to the resulting search results to narrow your results. You are very welcome. It's been a pleasure to help you. I don't blame you for wanting to work the rug in when your hubby is so proud of it. We'll find a way. I've had to deal with hubby things too. It's called Love. Seems you mentioned the coffee table could be used elsewhere at some point. Have you thought about using your ottoman as a coffee table if you placed a tray on it? I did another virtual for you using it. I painted your walls and used the rug to "grab" some toss pillows for the sofa too. Oh I figured your Hawaii connection by clicking on your user name. (My Daddy was stationed in Hawaii with the Army Air Corp. He got out just thirty days before Pearl Harbor. Got called back very quickly, but not to Hawaii that time.) I was just curious where you were. Are you or your hubby Military? We have a nephew and his family in Germany right now with the Army. They are to be coming stateside soon though. We live in eastern Nebraska about twelve miles north of Omaha out in the country. We love it here. I hope your dream comes true soon and you can retire in Hawaii. Katie, our daughter, is planning a trip to Hawaii in September. She's Air Force.

Macumber, those are cute pillows, as is the rug Tibbrix posted. The only thought in my mind is that it is hard to match or mix oranges. I have this problem in my family room. Some oranges are pinky-coral-orange, some a bright yellow-orange, and others a browned down rust or clay. The small pillows are not hard to use as accents with navy with cording edge behind them. They are also easy to return if the colors don't work. The orange in Tibb's rug seems to be multicolored which is easier to work with the a solid. But colors on monitors are notoriously hard to match. Take it a step at a time, then order a smaller rug, perhaps, to see the colors. Here is a link to Ballard Designs outdoor rugs for some more ideas. I Do love the rug, (and also the first bird pillow in HD link). The mixed patterns in the pretty pictures work because the colors are spot on. http://www.ballarddesigns.com/rugs-drapery/rugs/indoor-outdoor/#w=*&af=cat2:rugsampdrapery_indooroutdoorrugs cat1:rugsampdrapery pagetype:products

Onecatonedog - I'm going to order a sample but the floral fabric looks like it has a brick red/pink going on instead of burgundy. Is that right?

Still can't find those the large plaid or the houndstooth plaid with red. Kmcg - Would you like to fb that question to Nell Hill's, lol? I'll shoot them another email.

Shee, sure I can! First I wanted to tell you I was in Tuesday Morn today and I saw the Chaps Somerton Queen set for $99.99 It included the comforter, bedskirt and two shams. The queen sheet set was also there for $59.99. I know you saw it this weekend at Kohl's. I thought it was a pretty red, more of a garnet or ruby red, not bright like scarlet and not burgandy. Anyway, I wanted to let you know they have them in stock at Tuesday's in case you wanted to try it. I'll get back to you on the nell hill pillow! But to be sure, which plaid are you referring to? The one from the book? The big plaid on the euro sham or the houndstooth plaid in the front?

  • Sheeisback_GW

Ruby red! That's a better way to describe the red. It was pretty but I wasn't wild about the plaid shams. I guess I was just expecting the whole thing to have deeper colors.
I can't get that set though because of it being dryclean. I need my main blanket to be machine washable. I'm ok with dryclean decorative pillows.

Yes, both fabrics from the book. I'm actually curious of both the big plaid on the euro and the houndstooth pillows with the buttons.

As of right now if we can't find the maker of the large plaid or it's crazy expensive I may end up using the floral for the euro shams, a houndstooth (hopefully the same on as the pic) for the standard shams the bosporus red and pasiley pillows for accents. Using some type of solid comforter/coverlet and I have no idea for a bedskirt.

Here's some pictures. You'll notice I paired the floral with a cheetah print on my pillows, and with a cream/red check on my window treatments. It's really a versatile fabric. Some of these pics look a little washed out, as this floral is very rich in person.

Thanks Kmcg. I'll give them a call tomorrow. Hopefully they can help me out. I do look at the blog and wish they had more entries. :) Love the Sept. post about fall bedding with the red deer toile fabric.

Onecatonedog - Gosh, I love that fabric. Love how you combined the other fabrics too. Out of curiousity, are your pillows a cover with a zipper or are they filled?
Is there any blue in the fabric? How would you describe the red? Brick red? Burnt red? Thank you for posting those!

Here's a similar houndstooth plaid, not quite the same, but a good one, anyway.

I'm still looking for the large plaid.......

No problem sheesharee! I always make pillows with a zipper, hidden behind the trim or the cording, on what would be the bottom of the pillow.

There is blue - I'd describe it as a blue/green, or maybe a dark turquoise? Not an overwhelming amount of blue, but just enough to pull the color out to use as an accent elsewhere.

The red is more of a lighter rosy red deepening all the way to a burgundy, but not a real orange type of red. Though, I have a sample of it on the brick-ish red blanket on my bed right now and it looks great there.

Yes, I too love this fabric. In fact, I love it so much that I'm going to use the navy version in our master bedroom, whenever I get around to that project!

Woooo ... we're in business baby!

I called the store and talked to a very nice lady that is sending me fabric swatches in the mail for free.

The plaid on the euro shams is Hunting (or Huntington can't read my chicken scratch notes)Plaid and it's $21.50. The houndstooth plaid on the pillows with buttons is Glen Fidish wool for $50/yard OR they also have it in a cotton for $12.75. (Yeah, which do you think I'm buying. :) ) Both instock.

I did ask about the paisley and she said it's been discontinued. I asked if it was Waverly and she just said again it was discontinued and they don't carry it anymore. I guess it's not real good for them to be giving the maker names since they also sell the fabric.

    I'm very excited. :D

..........just got off the phone with the poor girl again and she's sending me samples with prices of everything on that bed. Yay, yay, yay.

Kmcg - It would be a very bad thing if I lived close to that store. :) Working there would be so fun.

Nanny - Thanks for finding that plaid! I really like that one too.

Onecatonedog - Thanks for the clarification! It looks like it can go with a lot. I think part of my problem with the red/black/check bedding above is there wasn't many colors to work with.

  • Kathleen McGuire

Is that the price for the fabric or the actual shams, pillows? They do have all size pillows in stock, not sure if you know that. So glad you are getting somewhere with your bedroom. I know you will have so much fun putting it together! Much easier when you have a better idea of what you like and have an inspiration piece. An idea they have on their blog is to use two different fabrics; one for each side finished with a coordinating trim or flange around the pillow. Two looks in one! Just flip the pillow! A good idea to change seasonally from a darker color/pattern to a lighter one!

onecatonedog, (love your name) can you share where you got the cheetah fabric. I am in love with your pillows!

  • Sheeisback_GW

Kmcg - That's only the fabric price. I'll be paying Nanny2a to make the shams, pillows, and probably a bedskirt also.

I'm very excited. I've wanted this room done for so long and it's finally coming together. I've just loved that picture since I bought the book and to actually be able to use THOSE fabrics is awesome. Nobody else gets it. DH is said,"They're pillows that will end up on the floor. Nobody else is going to see our room, etc." Well I care and people will see it on the way to the bathroom if the door's open and they look in.

I might as well make them reversable to get a different look.

At this point, I believe I'll be using the same fabrics for the pillows and maybe replacing the paisley one with the floral. The floral is a possibility for the bathroom too.

Do you think I should do the bedskirt in the houndstooth plaid? I can't picture how it will look. I'm naming that one first because it's machine washable (when I go with the cotton) and it's cheaper. Or should the bedskirt be maybe the same as the comforter/coverlet. They're sending me that fabric (the twall? from the picture) too so I can try and match something of the same color in a store.

  • lisaag98

Camminnc - The cheetah fabric is from a local fabric store, though I've seen it in quite a few places. Calico Corners has it too, at the link below. I think P. Kaufman is the vendor, and it's usually about $12.99 a yard. The color is Earth.

It's pretty durable, especially compared with other decorator fabrics. I used it on my breakfast room chair seats as well (breakfast room/family room is one big room), and it has stood up very well to a toddler!!

I'm excited for you! I understand completely how it feels to be able to have something you've lusted after for so long! DH might be jealous, ha! I would also talk with whomever at NH to help coordinate the fabrics for you. I would completely trust them! Tell them what you are wanting, even if it is to use that picture in the book as your inspiration! Have them send the samples and you'll end up with a nice custom look! One other thing...when I was in Tuesday Morn last week, there was a taupe-ish, dark tan, coffee color matelisse spread with shams. It was very nice. They are completely washable, I have mine in the machine right now, thanks to ms. doggie! They wash beautifully. The color looked as though it would be a good background for all the fabrics you are considering. You could even make a throw out of the floral on one side and plaid on the other or the red onecatonedog used for a lighter look. My wheels are spinning for you...

The taupe I was talking about is very similar to the biscuit colored blanket in the link. Maybe a tad darker, with out the shiny look.

Kmcg - Yeah, they're sending me all the fabrics except the paisley (they're saying discontinued) in the photo. They were very nice and I'm SO glad I called. Also nice they're doing it for free. Anywhere else you end up paying at least for shipping.

Of course, you could make a nice look with substitutes but I want "that" bedding. :) I'm actually going to pretty much copy the pillows (including the buttons and trim) from the inspiration photo. Only difference is, I believe I'm going to use the floral fabric in place of the paisley. Not that I don't also like the paisley but I like the floral better and I'm getting a lot of pillows on the bed. I might also use the floral fabric in my bathroom.

I don't know if you can see from the photos very well but the bedspread on there looks olive green with a pattern. The lady said it was twill?/twall? I think. They're sending a sample of that also but won't actually be using it for a blanket. Anyhow, I was thinking olive green but I don't think I've seen many olive colored coverlets around. The one you're describing from Tuesday Morning sounds nice. Do you remember how much it was? As soon as I get the fabrics I should be heading to look for a cover. I'd like to find one from a store so I don't have to mess with shipping if I need to return.

What do you think I should do about a bedskirt?

My wheels are jumping ahead! I bought 2 old, oval landscape pictures from a thrift store a few months back and I think they're going to work great in the room. I'm also considering moving those two floral prints from the LR in here. We'll see. I'm already lacking art in the LR!

  • Kathleen McGuire

Isn't pulling together a look sooo much easier with some inspiration? So happy everything is working out for you. Love everything about that pic in the book and if you are able to 'copy the look' using the original source, all the better!
RE: the color of the spread in the pic. I have the book, so I went to take a look. Looking closely, it looks like a small glen plaid duvet that reverses to the floral. Maybe thay have something similar? Oops, just saw that they are sending you a sample of that. It doesn't strike me as olive, but tanish. That would work also. Fun, fun!

I'm SOOOO glad I didn't jump into painting months ago. My original color I had planned for the room was SW Mannered Gold, remember?

What do you think I should do about a bedskirt?

  • Kathleen McGuire

UGH! Just lost my long winded post! As I was saying, :) You could go with any of the fabrics for a bedskirt. I would describe the look in the book as rustic elegance. It mixes femine and masculine properties. For instance, the floral, which is femine is done in more masculine colors of brown, cream, brick red. As long as you stick with the color palette of reds, browns, greens and tans, you could go in any direction. What appeals to you? If the bedskirt were floral, you create a more vintage, femine look. Checks or plaids lean masculine. Of course a solid color trimmed in a coordinating color of wide grograin ribbon is somewhere in between and makes it easy to change out the look seasonally. It is up to you and how you want the bedroom to feel.

Kmcg - Ha, I just saw your post in my other thread. No, I'm not sick of you! Thinking more about this today I'm leaning towards using the houndstooth plaid for the bedskirt so it ties the fabrics in somehow.

OOOooo... I really like that green. I'm going to head out and look tomorrow at lunch. Is a matelasse a heavy blanket? Do they insulate you pretty well? I really, really don't like anything heavy feeling on me to sleep. We use a vellux and I use another throw on top mostly on my side because DH whines he's "too hot". I'm secretively thinking how I can still use a vellux blanket with the bedding. Maybe under the pretty one. ?

Ttodd - Thanks! I like hearing that! I can't believe how excited I am over bedding.

My3dogs - Ebay is the greatest! Thank you for linking to those!

Oakley - You know, all growing up I strongly disliked plaid. Couldn't figure out what was so appealing. I still think there are some unattractive combinations out there but I've grown to really like most! Did you ever get check pillows for your LR?

  • Jbrig

Nothing to add in the way of decorating input, as I think you're well on your way to having a gorgeous room, but I did want to pop in to add my vote for keeping your vellux :-) As a fellow vellux lover, I think you're bound to be able to figure out a way to creatively hide your vellux beneath your other bedcoverings. Be sure and tell us how you end up working that out!

  • Sheeisback_GW

    Jbrig - Haha, vellux forever!
The heat just kind of insulates in. I honestly don't even need that other cover for heat I just like to be overly bundled. I'll have to pay attention to the size so that it doesn't stick out below the main blanket.

So I just had this idea for the bathroom.... Floral valance (My3dogs style of course :) ), shower curtain with that olive/tan twill duvet fabric as the main curtain and the floral at the top. Potential problem: My floor in the bathroom is light (neutral thank God) gray. I'm thinking it could work though.

Those samples can't get here fast enough!

I just received my fabrics from Nell Hills. I need to vent a min.

She sent me like 10 different fabric samples. Great. She says she sent me everything on the bed but I'm not seeing the olive/tan duvet fabric. She sent me some nice coordinating ones. Great. However, the names and prices she gave me are all wack from our phone conversation.

She told me the large plaid was called Huntington Plaid and was $21.50/yard. She said the houndstooth plaid came in wool or cotton. The wool was like $50 the cotton was $12.75. I was going to get the cotton.

There are two samples of the large plaid and on the back one is wool for $50.50 the other says Twill and is $12.75. The name is Glenfiddesh which is what she told me the houndstooth plaid was! The houndstooth plaid says Dupree on the back and is $17.50. The twill is what she told me the duvet was made out of that I don't even see the fabric. I didn't misunderstand, questioned and wrote everything down.

Then there's a nice complentry fabric, I don't even know how to describe it but it has all the same colors, the back says Huntington Plaid again but the price is $21.50. It's not a plaid from what I can see. Looks more like woven stripes. Kind of houndstooth like.

Grrrrrrr.... I wanted the houndstooth to be the bedskirt and was thinking it was "cotton" and machine washable. What the heck is twill anyhow!? I just did a search and it looks like you can wash it.

It is what it is but I'm disappointed. I need to call and get clarification.

Like I said, the other samples are nice. She did send me a different nice floral but I can't see the design right because the swatch is too small. The back says Cov. Crosvenor Aut. She sent me a nice paisley too but it has nothing on the back! That was the first one I pulled and looked at after reading her nice note that stated she made sure to put info on all the fabric. :) I know, I know we're all only human.

I'm am pleased that the colors aren't crazy different from the book. They're deep, rich colors like I was expecting.
The houndstooth is cream background, cranberry red, olive, and brown. The plaid is gorgeous.

WTH! I just realized the bosporus fabric isn't here! I wanted to make sure it was the red. I don't want to have to order fabric from a bunch of different places! I think the one paisley she sent is actually what's in the photo. Yeah, I'd say she was a little confused during our phone conversation.

  • Sheeisback_GW
    Original Author

Well the girl is sending me the bosporus. She did clarify it was the #63 Antique Red which was what I really wanted to hear.

The duvet she said is called Ruben Black and it's actually a cream background with a cafe brown houndstooth print with some red. The lighting and paint change it in the photo to look olive. Which, I think I'm going to look for an olive or tan blanket anyhow but I'm considering using the duvet fabric for a shower curtain.

She told me the houndstooth is washable. It's a linen/cotton blend.

The pretty floral marked Cov. Crosvenor Aut., she said they don't know the maker as all the fabrics come straight from the mill. Not quite getting that because she sent me a sample of the Waverly paddock shawl (actually says "Wave" at the top on the back) in the brown color. She did say she could mail me a large sample and I'd have to send it back but at this point I'm just going to pass.

She said they didn't have anymore tags for the red pasiley so she was going to send me that info.

All the names and prices are on the back are suppose to be right. What I gathered though, the stickers are already on the samples, it wasn't like she printed them out and put them there.

Nice girl but seems a bit scatter brained. As long as the right fabrics show up when I order it will be fine.

The red in the plaid is deep than it's showing here.
The top row is complimentary fabrics she sent. 1st one is the one I mentioned above trying to figure out what it was. The 2nd is the Huntington Plaid. The last one is the red deer toile from the blog I liked.
    {{!gwi}}
    {{!gwi}}
Thinking about this more, since I'm not using a duvet like in the photo, should I keep the pillows the same as the inspiration photo and make a red paisley pillow instead of the floral I was going to do? Looke like I'll be able to use the floral in the bathroom. It has that blue color in the mix, which you can't really see in this sample but a wee bit in the flowers.

Kmcg - The duvet does look close to that. I'm excited to see the swatch when it finally gets here.

I agree they all look RLish but I don't know that any of them are. On the backs of each swatch at the top they say an abbreviated name which I'm assuming is the maker then the pattern listed below.

The large plaid says Roth at the top. The houndstooth says Marl. Floral says AFF (above the words Kings Muir). The deer toile sample says Brae which I'm assuming is Braemore. The one paisley says Wave which is for Waverly Paddock Shawl.

Lori - I do really like the colors in that bedding you're talking about. Another poster here, Whitdobe I believe, bought that bedding.

What do you guys think about the last bed pillow. Use the floral or pasiley?

  • Sophie Ingerslew

I know I haven't chimed in a long while, but I just wanted to say that the floral makes my heart sing. If you make a paisley pillow and leave the floral off the bed, my 2c is that the bedding may appear a tad on the masculine side...
I think the reason why that bedding in the picture works is that there is a perfect balance of masculine (plaid & houndstooth) and feminine (toile & floral). The paisley is sort of gender neutral.

Even if you do not want the floral as a duvet cover, maybe you can make a throw blanket or coverlet out of it?

You have great taste and I *love* the fabric samples.

Can't wait to see it all come together!!!

I don't think they're all RL fabrics, maybe some or maybe just similar. Bosphorous is not a RL fabric. The one fabric you mention that started with COV - is probably a convington fabric. Try searching covington fabrics and see if you can find it.

Love the fabrics and I would use the floral somewhere in the bedroom also.

I'm really liking this better than the red/white/black you posted from Linen Source (just my opinion/choice). This is sophisticated without being stuffy, but comfy at the same time. Love the masculine/feminine mixture and I think these fabrics will look great with your bed!

Southernfrenchie- Good point. Deep down I think I knew that I just need reassurance or a swift kick in the rump to keep things moving. Maybe at some point I'll see about using the floral on a cover. I'll have to wait awhile for that.

Tina - I like this so much better than that linensource bedding too. While I do like it, I was trying to make something work. The black and white checks were the "masculine" to me in that bedding and really, it's not very masculine in comparison to the new fabrics.

Kmcg - I didn't get a chance to look at the Chaps olive blanket yet but am planning to something this week. I think I'm going to wait until I have the pillows back from Nanny2a and on the bed before I buy one. I figure they'll have sales close to Christmas. I'll admit I'd like to find something cheaper than the sale price for the blanket since I'm already spending quite a bit on all this. I have a feeling it might be hard to find anything else olive that doesn't have shiny polyester trim attached! I'd like to still be able to paint, get new curtains, and a blind yet with what I have budgeted for the room.

I'm pretty excited. I believe I'm going to order the fabric this week and get things rolling. This will all be so worth it in the end. I can't wait to walk into the room and see pretty things everyday that make me smile.

    Bed arrives tomorrow. Stay tuned!

I agree...get the floral! To me it is the star and from what I read you really like that fabric also, so why not use it. Going on the femine/masculine theme, it is perfect to balance it all with the floral. The AFF above the floral stands for American Folk and Fabric who is the manufacturer. The pattern is Kings Muir. Here it is on a chair:

I would consider ebay as my3d's suggested for a lot of these fabrics if you can.

    Shee,
I just adore it all!! I can't wait to see your progress.

Onecatonedog - I adore your pillows & window treatment.

And, can I invite myself to a NH weekend?????????????? I am halfway serious....I would love to meet you and Kmcg (and other GW's) in Kansas! Would that not be a blast!

Funny thing is....a business associate of DH in Maine invited us to come up. We had never physically met him...he and his wife invited us into their home for a week! We went and had a fantastic time. Everyone thought we were crazy for staying at their house and not getting a hotel. Even brought my 6month old son & they had gone out and bought toys for him!

    Smiles:)

Kmcg - Those chairs a beeeeutiful! Thanks for telling me what AFF means. Going to do the floral. So far other places I've found the fabric online are similar in price and even if it's a little cheaper, until I get done paying all the shipping fees, it's probably better to order all from NH.

Scooby, Kmcg, other GWers- That would be so much fun!!

p.s. Scoob, I've been chasing you all over the boards now trying to find out about that hunt fabric you posted in my other thread. :) Do you know the maker and pattern?

I have to wait until next week to order the fabrics but everything will be shipped right to Nanny2a for the making. So excited. So excited.
