Awkward fireplace in brick wall - advice needed

Hello! We just bought our first home and absolutely love it (however, it needs lots of decorating attention/love, so I'm sure I'll be in the forum often!) My first challenge is the fireplace. It is a see-through fireplace from the living room to the family room. In the living room ("formal living room"), it is off-center on a painted (real)stone wall. I think a mantle might help, but it is so awkwardly positioned. I can't even drywall on the right side of it, because it's flush to the fireplace portion. I could drywall the whole wall, maybe? The stone ledge at the bottom goes all the way across, as well. I don't have a ton of money to spend. Ideas to make it livable?? I've copied the URL for the photo below. Thanks in advance!
