ceiling primed white, why paint white too?

we have a bedroom loft that was finished 10 years ago and they used 'white' textured skimcoat on the ceiling so we never painted it. Since then got some water stains (source is taken care of), and since we're redoing the room, we sealed the stains with Bin and painted the ceiling with white primer. It looks fine.

Why do I need to put in the labor of a white finish coat as well? (I'm not concerned about subsequent water stains so I don't need an anti-mildew component).

thanks
