I think the fixture sounds ideal. Can't help you with the e-bay questions, as I've never bought there, but plenty of others will chime in to assist you with that I'm sure!

Thanks stinky ! I hope others do chime in as I am not an ebay user at all. I am glad you like the rug. It is unusual in that it is square...not many Orientals are.

I will wait to see what others think. I looked at the fixture again and it is different enough that I think they will compliment....c

You want to check the past prices of similar fixtures to see what they sold for. You can do this by typing in the search to find the item you want, (after signing in), then click on "Completed items" on the left. That will give you an idea of how well these fixtures are selling and what they're selling for. Good luck.

I would bid on it whatever you think is a fair price, and if you win it for a bargain price, then great, and if you lose, you keep looking. There will be another one listed eventually.

When you sign up for ebay, you'll have a "my ebay" auction page, so that you can keep track of watched auctions, bids, postal tracking numbers, etc. There's lots of tutorials on the site that walk you through the whole process. You can also cut/paste the auction url and email it to yourself.

I would NOT work out any kind of off ebay deal with the seller, as that provides no protection to either party if there's any kind of issue. And it's against ebay rules.

Do a google search for Auctionstealer. I think if you only use the snipe function a few times a month, it's free.

I only meant to warn you. Sometimes people have been dishonest trying to sell things privately, and that can either work out fine, or go really badly.

I buy and sell on ebay. Personally, I wouldn't pay his price to end the action early, because I've gotten amazing deals just following the auction till the end. There are always 'sleepers' that people just aren't watching or paying attention to, and you can get a really great deal. He might have had that listed multiple times and not even sold it, so your opening bid might win it. As a seller he has access to information telling him how many people are watching that auction. If it were a ton of people, he would let the auction play out and hope to make a lot of money. He probably hasn't had a lot of interest and he's probably hoping you'll pay double just so he makes money and doesn't have to pay ebay fees. My advice, wait it out. And keep looking for others while you're waiting on this one to end!

Oh btw, you said you didn't see an option for 'completed'. You have to be signed in as a member to see that.
