I have a 10 year old guest bedroom set that held up really well. We just got the John Elway Sectional for our new house and hubby just adores it for his media room. ;c)

We haven't purchased from them, but wish we could. We've spent the past 3 weekends shopping for family room furniture. We finally found some that we could afford. However, I am in love with a sofa/loveseat combo from basset. It is called grand estates. It's by far the most comfy sofa we tried out while shopping. It was $2000 just for the sofa alone, and not much less for the loveseat. That was just too much for us right now. But it's on my wish list for the future :)

Depends on what you're looking at. When we were shopping for a bed year before last we looked at one from Bassett and weren't impressed. It didn't seem all that well made (we could rock the frame easily) and seemed a little bit overpriced - seemed comparable in construction with things that were priced significantly less.

We really liked the Elway poster bed but my goodness it was massive - you really need a very, very big house to carry that off - and expensive too.

We have a dining set with buffet and a bedroom set with armoire. Everything has held up just fine. Our is about 10 years old. It is all a medium cherry. We did not see these as heirloom pieces but liked the slight contemporary look. Don't know about their upholstered pieces.

As a girl, my first bedroom set was a Bassett. It was white with painted roses - I know you can picture it.

Fast forward about half a century...We bought a cherry sleigh bed BR set 5 yrs. ago. I'm happy with the appearance and quality, though it would be a stretch to call it "heirloom quality." I'd buy it again, though.

Let me preface this by saying I doubt anything is made as well as it was 50 years ago.

The only two pieces of furniture that made it through my mom's move that she absolutely loved and had to have were her Bassett china hutch and her Bassett desk. Both in hard rock maple.

I have and use both. They are both beautiful although the china hutch has little dents and bumps and bruises. My mom was a parapalegic and for most of my life was able to walk on crutches. She would stand up against it to prop herself up and the crutches would bang and scratch the hutch. I had thought about refinishing it but probably never will. All the bangs and bumps are special to me.

So, I'd say the quality of Bassett furniture is exceptional. She put it through quite a lot. I know none of the other furniture I have could go through what that has. Luckily, I'm not as hard on furniture as she was.

Does any company still do hard rock maple finish btw? I'd like to find a matching DR table and chairs.

I have a Bassett DR set, and I would say it is middle to upper range quality. I like the styling and didn't want to spend $5000 on a DR set we used 2 times a year, so it's perfect for us.

Robin2007, I would suggest you call Thomas Home Furnishings in NC and give them the item numbers of the furniture you want from Bassett. I'm looking at a leather cocktail table size ottoman from Bassett, and found this company on an internet search. The retail Bassett store in OH for the ottoman was $925 on sale. Thomas quoted me $518. There is even a bigger savings on upholstery - so check them out before you give up on your dream furniture!
