I think there is a difference between froufrou and traditional decor. If you want to defroufrou choose less items with more impact. #1 reads traditional and #2 reads transitional (I would not necessarily say modern) so it really depend what direction you wish to take this room--which goes back to the check list brownysmom had written. If you were to consider what works best for a toddler, I'd have to say #2; but I think #1 goes best with your sofa and entertainment center which are both traditional.

As for the price, I am curious if O is jacking up the price on you based on how many times you have looked at it. I just looked it up and the price is $413. What price does yours show?

Val - It's $413. I had a thread started up awhile ago complaining about the price and someone on there mentioned they knew for sure O doesn't do that. As long as I can at least get a 10% coupon code, that would be better than nothing.

I really like #1 best. The feet, the wood trim, optional shelf is nice (comes with it). I don't care for the square feet on #2 but wanted to ask opinions before I shelled out anymore money.

I honestly didn't think either would be a better choice for small kids.

A big question I'm dealing with now is if I replace the loveseat eventually with a a recliner (Chloe style) I don't think the square is going to look as nice.

I was thinking if I got #1 and made some other changes in the room it would be ok. I do like traditional stuff I just need to get some of the fancy out.

I like the looks of the first one. More of a classic look.

When I look at your room, I don't see any other leather furniture. Do you have any leather in the house? The reason I ask is your cats may be attracted to the leather and turn it in to their own personal scratching post. I just got two new leather couches. Fairly high end leather and you could really smell them when they were unwrapped. The dog went up and down rubbing her body on the leather. Fortunately she never tried to chew or destroy them. But she was definitely attracted to them. Just be aware if you get leather to watch your animals to make sure they don't try to destroy your new furniture.

Shee, I have the Bernhardt leather ottoman that looks almost identical to #1 - without the tray.

I have a cat and dog, my cat has no interest in the ottoman or my leather sectional - these leathers are so "conditioned" I think they probably don't smell like real leather to an animal. Perhaps if it was natural leather or cowhide they would be attracted to it.

I have also had mine for several years and have never had the need to vaccuum anything out of the creases, now I haven't probed deeply but what can't be seen can't hurt you! :-)

If you get a few scratches, you need to just go with it. Leather is a natural material like soapstone or marble. It will so some wear over time, that's its beauty. If you want something that won't scratch as easily, then get vinyl or fabric.

I think you will be very happy with #1. I think it's more traditional, but not in a queen anne style, ultra formal way. I think it's classy and more timeless in style - something that would go with just about any style of furniture you would put it with - except maybe ultra modern.

It's unfortunate the price keeps rising, but you have to keep in mind that's still a good price for a leather ottoman. Most retail at twice that and the NC one is still several hundred dollars higher.

PULL THE TRIGGER! I don't see it going down in price, I think it would be more heart wrenching if they sell out of their stock and don't offer it anymore! Overstock isn't a normal retail place that keeps things for sale for long periods of time.

True # 2 would assist in "de-formalizing" the room, it's just not a good fit with the other decor. So I agree with most everyone else here - #1 is the best choice. IMHO, it will look less formal if you keep the shelf on. Is it easy to take on and off? You could add it too your check list of putting it on when guests are expected, if it doesn't suit your lifestyle (how cool is that?!?!).

Is the woven tray you are wanting dark in color so somewhat blends with the ottoman? That would keep it less formal (love that idea BTW, I may have to steal it ;-).

I love #1 and i agree with folkvictorian above about the Target thing. #1looks like a beautiful investment piece, and #2 looks like a temporary fad.

Shee, I like #1 so much better than #2. Have you looked around at other places to try and find the one you really want for the price you want to pay?

Housefairy - No other leather. That's part of the reason I wanted something leather to add a new material to the room. Anything new the cats are all over at first. The interest usually fades fast but you never know. We put together our new iron bed last night and the one cat was sleeping between the posts of the footboard! :)

Carol - I'll be ok after the first few character marks. The first one is always the worst. :)

Greenthumb - They say it's a matter of four screws to take the bottom off. Easy peasy.

Deborahnj - I really like #1. I have looked ALL over the place and there is literally nothing I like in any of the local stores. Down right ugly and weird sizes. The other few things I found online I liked was way out of price range.

I was just concerned it wasn't going to help the room any.

I was a bit concerned about that with my wing chair. Although your wing chair is dark leather and has a more masculine look than mine so that might make the difference visually. I like # 1 the best and reading between the lines I really think you do also.
I know you said it is a bit more expensive but what I do when that happens is try to rationalize by saying I will have it for at least 10 years and divide the difference up saying that would mean 200 divided by 10 = 20.00 more a year for something I love versus something that I am saving some dollars on right now.

I didn't read all the responses, but my preference would be #1 by a mile. Just my preference, tho!

Hoosier - Don't care for the first one. Too many tufts. I really like the last one!! Is 31"x31" too small? I would do a mock up but my darling DH has taken over the room for his tv show.

I like that one! I think it's the best so far. More casual than #1, and I thought #2 was too contemporary for your taste.

That last one is too weighty visually for your room. I like the first one better.

I don't know, I'm torn between #1 and the last one. The pros for the last one are that the nail heads and the bun feet are similar to what's going on with your sofa and loveseat and it would bring the formal-ness down a notch, but it is visually heavy. And I really do like #1. Did you decide if you're keeping the wing chair? If so, I don't think the last one will flow with that in the room unless it was slipcovered to the floor. I wish I could see each of them actually in the room!

I asked DH last night if he liked #1 or the last one better. He doesn't care for the last one. He's actually is anti-leather. Yeeah, I don't get it. He would be ok with whatever I bought though.

Time got away from me last night but I would like to tape out the 31x31. I don't know that it's going to look proportioned since it's a smaller square.

I see my sofa and loveseat as able to go either formal or casual. I do want to replace the wing chair with either some type of club chair or Chloe style recliner. Nothing too muppet and large but darker in color. I might be ok with skirting but I don't know where to shop for them or what color. I also don't want the slipcover to look sloppy and constantly have to fix it. It may just be better to replace the chair. Whatever I end up doing, it won't be right now unless I find a really good deal on either. Open to suggestions about skirting the wing chair.

All in all, for the amount of money I'm willing to spend (which is not much over $400), and the size, + positive reviews, I think #1 is my best bet. The shelf is a nice feature. I originally said I wouldn't use it but I'm going to try it both ways if I order that one. And of course, post photos for ya'll to see.

I think changing the pillows, lamps, replacing wing chair, adding a large woven basket (found a nice one at Target) for blankets to the room will help bring the formality down and #1 (with a large round woven tray on top!) could still work. ???

You're right. I believe Mossimo could be tempted with those sides. He has used the back corner of the loveseat on rare occasion even though his beautiful scratching post is right there! I'm just glad it's a corner I don't see.

I really like #1, also! Go for it. The tufts....no big deal like mentioned - I just vacuum mine out sometimes. My son even eats on ours so we get crumbs & stuff, but no biggie. When I had a wood/glass coffee table, I felt like a slave having to wipe it down daily from the dog hair & dust(especially when the sun would come in at certain times) and with the leather ottoman, I can't see the dust!! Love that!

My leather sofa has scratches on it from the dogs - character marks! Every now and then I will take a damp rag with a Dove moisturizing bar & wipe it down and it removes the scratches. Leather is very resilient.

I don't think you can go wrong with #1, Shee -- go for it! I really like that one, and it seems like a great price from the prices I'm seeing for comparable ottomans. I think you'll be happy with it.

While the bun feet may match (on the last one), it is too heavy for your furniture. It looks good with the couch it is shown with, as they are balanced. While it is pretty, it will not go with your stuff.
I think what you are looking for is to add a little rugged masculinity to the room without looking western. Leather is a great way to accomplish that. In addition, you want it to be useable, for a footrest, seating, etc. A cocktail ottoman is more what you are looking for, I think.
Of all the ottomans, I prefer #1 to the rest. It is more traditional than the others, but adds the masculine feature, by its styling.

I see the positives that you like about #3, but I agree that it would probably be too visually heavy. I really like #1 and think it will look great in your room.

Where is the 2nd one from? I like the couch in that photo, but not the material. Do they sell the couch as well? Any leather options?

The leather on #3 is too shiny. It's too boxy with the leather coming down so low and the nail head trim is too big - just overpowering.

Also, I wonder whether the look of 1 will change WITHOUT the shelf--maybe the legs will turn a big gangly, with nothing to break them up? I also wonder whether there's a ridge where the shelf sits that will become apparent without the shelf?

Dianalo - #2 Ottoman is from Overstock. If you type in leather ottoman in the search I believe it's the 2nd one to show up. I don't know how you could find out info on the couch though. Maybe try emailing O but I couldn't get out of them the maker of #1 ottoman because of "contract reasons".

Tuesday - Ha! I'm going to get #1 but I need to wait until next week. It shouldn't take long to get here and you can be sure I'll post a photo for you guys not long after out of the box.

Pammy - Yeah #1 is two inches taller than #2. 1 is 18", 2 is 16".
Most people on the reviews like it better without the shelf. If you look at the close up pics you can see the bun feet sit on top and below the shelf is another set of feet. So the feet won't end up (I don't think) looking tall. They say it's a matter of a couple of screws to attach the shelf.

To me #1 looks like two coffee tables stacked on top of each other (lower one having been cut down), it just looks odd to me. But I love the legs on it and the tufting. I have a tufted "pouf" in my living room and it's not a problem at all to vacuum. You simply take the attachment and insert it into each hole/tuft and it quickly sucks out whatever is in there (in my house that would be fur and a wee bit of dust). Clean it out fast, not an issue, don't worry about it.
I like #2 but maybe not for your room. Between the two I think I'd go with #1. Probably looks better with books or something on that low-to-the-floor shelf. More practical too.

I like the fact that if you take the bottm shelf off, you also remove the "extra" set of legs. It won't look so leggy that way. At least if you get tired of one look, you can switch out and have a new look.

If it were me, I'd give the shelf a chance. I think it makes it look more solid and less top heavy.

Carolfm - The body of the shower curtain will be the smaller houndstooth plaid and the brown floral fabric will be for the shower and window curtain valances. I was having a tough time picking trim. That can get pricey too! I ended up ordering a tassel fringe that has the red, green, brown mixed. I'm so excited to whip those rooms in shape.
