Debbie2008, my faucet is a brushed stainless or brushed nickel. I'm not sure which. It was given to us by a friend who is an interior decorator. I don't think that the faucet necessarily has to match the faucet. Someone told me a while back (on this board) to look around the rest of my house at the other types of metal. My kitchen is in the middle of the house between my family room and formal dining room and I have a high-top bistro set right beside the breakfast bar that is a dark bronze finish and a big metal arch sclupture on the wall by it that is a dark bronze-like finish. HTH

I persobally love ORB as well as white cabinets. I have painted white cabinets with ORB knobs, pulls, lights and faucet. Stainless/nickel also looks great on white but it's a different look. There's not as much contrast between the two but it has a fresh light feel to it. I have brushed stainless bar pulls on my outdoor kitchen which has dark wood cabinets. As for the finish on the ORB, if it's what they call a "living finish" it will wear with age to a nice patina on the areas that get handled. Some of my faucets have this finish, the kitchen and master bath precisely. They're acually oil rubbed copper so the worn areas are a copper color instead of a bronze color. I chose this because I have several copper accents throughout my home. The powder room vessel sink is copper and the accent on the knobs on my stove are as well. As for ORB knobs, pulls and faucets with a sealed finish, I think they hold up as well as any other color. I have Moen ORB in my kids' bathrooms and they look just as new as they did three years ago. BTW I have ORB (copper) on my white farmhouse sink and it looks great.

I am the target market for your house: mid 30s with 2 kids who can afford it. Other than the kitchen which is a complicated puzzle, there's a few other things I would recommend to update your home. Dining room: remove the wallpaper and replace the blue curtains with floor to ceiling sheers. Currently the room looks busy and the beautiful view is obscured by the curtains. The items on the mantle look too small and the picture looks too small above the fireplace. Make the fireplace look grander with a much larger work of art above it and nothing on the mantle. Living room: get crisp and tailored cream colored cotton slip covers for the couches along with new decorative pillows. The ones on the couches look beat up. Remove the single clock on the mantle and the TV trays. If you have any wood side boards or other wood furniture you can put the TV on use that to place the TV on instead of the metal stand and pare down the components and speakers. The stand doesn't go with the decor. Remove the clocks and candle sconces as well since they aren't on trend. Formal Sitting Room: It feels like a room with too much furniture and no purpose. Many buyers from my generation aren't interested in a formal sitting room next to the entry. I would either make the piano the focal point instead of sticking it in a corner or restage it as a formal gentleman's office if you have the right furniture. A lot of homes being built of that size these days have a formal office in that spot instead of a sitting room. You want your target market to envision themselves living in your home. You have beautiful furniture and things but they are things that appeal to a different generation than the ones that are the target market for your home. Members of your generation are usually either downsizing or moving. Check out the websites for Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel to get a feel for the aesthetic of your target market and you'll see the difference. Unfortunately a lot of people looking at homes don't have vision or creativity so you have to help them along.

That one is much nicer and a better size than the glass one. Let me ask a question; How old are your kids who will be using this room, and how do they currently use their laptops? I ask only because I am getting the impression, which may be 100% incorrect, that the look of the room is more important that how the room works for them using it. Once we learned that it was for your kids, I thought that only one of them can use the room at a time, if you go the desk and sideboard route. I loved nosoccermom's idea above, so that more than one child has a place to sit and surf at the same time. Or do they usually just use their laptops in their rooms or in the living or family room. Do you think the kids will use this room? If not, I'd set it up any way that you'd like it to appear and feel for your vision.
