Yes I photo shop. But I am no fashion decorator and wanted to hear from you guys. I did a black shutter and was surprised. See pics below.

@susieq07, you are in line with my friends and neighbors.

The colors are lighter when viewed on wood at the store and I have color calibrated displays.

I was on the deck in the sun with no sunglasses and it made me want to go a darker color on that issue alone.

First, emails: Here's a post I copied from the "read me if you're new to GW Kitchens" thread on the kitchen forum. It's very helpful in many ways.

"Here's how to get GW emails when someone posts to your thread:

"Getting Emails Sent To You...3-step Process
There are three things you have to do to get emails sent to you when someone posts to a thread you started:

"Be sure you have a valid/current email address in your profile

"Again in your profile, be sure you have the "Allow other users to send you email via forms at our site." box checked (at the bottom of the profile page)

"Be sure to check the box labeled "Check here if you would like copies of follow-ups to your message emailed to you" when you submit your post. (Below the "Message" box)
Hmmm...maybe a 4th step...don't forget to "Save Your Member Profile" when you make changes! (button at bottom of profile page)

"If you do all 3 (or 4!) things, you should get an email when someone posts to your message.

"Note: Some members have said they still have problems getting emails. I seem to always get emails, but I have noticed that occassionally there will be a several hour delay and once there was a several day delay...I don't know why.

Those black shutters really give your house a crisp look, don't they? How about spicing it up with something in the red family, like SW Sequoia, Cheyenne Red, or even Cape Cod Red!

I like your diagonal trim and don't think it detracts from anything; it adds interest.

Sherwin Williams color called Black Bean for door and shutters. It's one of my favorite exterior colors. It has a rich, purple-ish undertone yet it's still very earthy and organic on an exterior. Look for a deck stain that is one of the lighter colors in the roof, or lighter than roof overall. Kind of a red cedar color but be careful that it's not too orange. Lighter deck colors are more functional because they retain less heat and usually look good longer. Testing the stain color is a really good idea. "Ideas" of roof color is at the top and body color is background. The outdoor furniture/accessories will add a nice pop of color.

@funcolors, I really like that black bean. and I was toying with going pretty dark on the deck floor but will reconsider.

I'll put the black bean on an example and post it soon.
I am a photographer and don't know what I would do without it. You can get a deal if your a student or know a teacher and google your way into learning if you have the time and drive.

Heh! I don't think the black bean is going to work for me. Its a bit more bold than I am.
I did try a different shade of brown that has a base of the roof in it.

I have been riding around neighborhoods and see two widths of shutters. something else for me to ponder. whats up with the choice of widths?

I like the black shutters better than the brown with your house.
I think the deck and steps should be a medium color as a light one shows up dirt and debris and dark colors cook in the sun. The medium color will show fewer signs of aging and you may stretch out the time between repainting.

Well it's done. I really like the deck floor color being Sherwin-Williams Deckscapes "Pepperidge". My daughter says it looks like chocolate with white candy railing.
I am thinking I may need to paint the rear deck's stringer in white. Looking how the stairs connect to it and how it will contrast the deck board edges. What do you guys think.
Shutters? I'll be sitting on that one a while. I keep getting a suggestion for white plantation shutters.
And then there is the door?

Words of warning on going with a white solid stain. It will show every single flaw in the wood. I had to fill every nail hole because I could see them from the street. Cracks a splits come through. A solid stain it does not coat like a paint and I found hitting some places later with a brush helped.

It's a humble place but right for a retired divorce living alone. I do private investigations now. Hence the name gapi.
