Scale of furniture for living room?

Hi everyone! I am not good at judging the scale of furniture for the size of a room. I have been in my house for 2 years this month, and I am about to purchase the 3rd living room set. My living room is 15ft x 18ft (best usable space) which is open to the kitchen. I want to purchase Tommy Bahama style furniture which includes a large entertainment center. I have drawn a diagram in Microsoft excel, I will try to include in this post. What is your opinion, is this too much furniture, is the size of the furniture too large? How is the placement of the furniture? Thank you for your opinions!!

It looks good to me. I love Tommy Bahama furniture...your space should look cozy and have that tropical feel with French Continental styling. Throw in a palm for ambiance.

Will the stairs be used daily? - you're only giving yourself
about a foot of space by the one chair in front of them.

Depending on style of chair used - that corner could end up looking like you're trying to make a piece of furniture you already have work in the tight space and not the designed look you want to achieve.

Something about your measurements of the spaces seems off. I can't see a 7.5' length anywhere in your living room. Double check your notations. If your family enjoys table games, the sitting area would make a nice spot for a game table and chairs. Otherwise, make it into a lounge or reading nook one or two chaises. I agree with TV between the windows. Try a sofa and four swivel chairs. Keep the scale smaller and use a 3-seat sofa to seat 7, Then squeeze in a pair of smaller chairs in the corners right and left of the TV that can be pulled out for viewing. The coffee table can have space underneath for a couple of poufs or stools to seat extras.

If you want to exactly match your plan and make the house the way you want, then you should work closely not only with the workers and decorators but also with the furniture maker directly. I moved some things around and I think I like it better. I know the rug is too small and it shouldn't be "floating" but I don't want a new one until we get the other changes done. I moved the dresser into the dining room and hung (probably too high but couldn't convince 6'3" hubby to lower it and he had a point about being out of reach of the tornado. haha) the sign and pictures that had been on the mantle in the dining room. We also took off the ridiculous trim board they had up because we will be replacing the slider soon. So many things in this house like that silliness. I organized most of the books and moved the bookshelf. And grabbed a few canvases (I know they are small but can't remember where we left my big one) I did the flower, my dad painted the one on the right in Vietnam in '68. We need to fix the coffee table my dad built that's in the garage, I'll put it in front of the sofa, it's a little under 6'long, so it might be technically too big but, again, it's what I have. How'd I do?

Once you have furniture in your space the chair rail will not be noticed on that side. It will not be the focal point. Your furnishings and artwork will be what people will see. Also, spaces that are completely balanced are not nearly as interesting as having a little asymmetry here and there imo.

Thank you Vampiressrn and chijim. I thought I'd put a palm behind the chair in front of the window opposite the stairs. Yes the stairs are used daily but is the second stair case. The chair is an accent chair with open carved wood (spindle like) arms with tan and brown zebra print on the backrest and solid brown leather on the seat. It is rather small and would only be used as a piece to balance the room (in my opinion), and would be extra seating for guests, not that often. It also could be moved closer to the fireplace, when not in use (gas fp). I just worry that as with every thing else, things always look good on paper. My experience is reality is another thing. Right now I have a leather sectional with a curved wedge and it feels all blocked in and a TV over the fire place. The only thing on the left side of the room is a rocker recliner, an end table with lamp and wine rack from the nook. That side feels barren and the other side of room cramped. I think that putting the TV in an entertainment center will make for a better arrangement. Again, my opinion. I have been thinking about hiring an interior designer but can't seem to find any in my area. Plus the furniture I want to purchase is inexpensive, and kinda feels silly to hire one.

I would remove the chair from in front of the stairs. Everything else looks nice.
