What did I do wrong with my silk panels?

I bought RH's thai silk panels in the double width for my master bedroom. I used drapery hooks for the first time. Why don't they have holes for the hooks? I measured out the location of the hook, but I'm having a hard time keeping the hooks in the correct positon. They twist or come out of the rings. They pinch the panels. Or they go through the pnel. I tried duck taping them in place and it's helped some, but am I doing something wrong? I'm thinking of giving up and using clip ons. We open and close these drapes daily.

I assume you are using pin hooks? They are just to be pinned in the seam on the back of the drapery where the pleat is sewn, and the one on each end. I am not sure what you mean by holes for the hooks?

Get the duct tape off now. You will ruin the fabric.

I think you need to sew on round plastic curtain rings found at Joanne's or Michaels or a fabric shop. You don't use drapery hooks with a pole. I think they have about 2 in. round clips that clip to top of drape & go over the pole if you want to see the clips. Drapery hooks or pins are for over a usually white about 1" wide metal rod that is flattened & the end of each hook goes into 1 of the plastic clips on the rod. You have the type where you don't use a cord at the end of the drapery rod to open & close the drapes, you are opening & closing by pulling on the drape sounds like. I would keep a white glove handy to do that as your drapes will get dirty pulling on them all the time. So if all you want to see is the drape get plastic rings at least 1/2 wider than that pole so they will pull easily,you will have to sew them in each seam so every 3-4 in.& just sew over & over about 1/2 in. of ring so it will stay in place up & down to drape. Ask lady at store to help you or get book on making drapes & curtains from library or check Internet to see how to do it. If you get the clip- ons they just clip on the top of drape & you slide them over the pole. Your rings or clips must be loose on pole or you won't be able to open & shut them with ease. Look at Penny's or someplace that sells drapes & has some samples up so you can see the different treatments. Hard to explain!

flora_uk, I can still see ungerminated seeds delightedinco, I tried the Scotts EZ Seed too - it sometimes worked, and it's very convenient to use (I like the built-in spreader on the smaller containers - the gardening newbies this product is aimed at are not going to own seed spreaders or roto-tillers, don't know what kind of soil or fertilizer to use, and have no idea what 5 lbs. per 400 feet looks like when spread. But it is so expensive for what you get). I bought it only because Scotts used to have $5-off discounts on it. Pennington has a similar product as part of their Smart Seed line that's a bit cheaper (but not much), although I wonder why they claim much longer germination times than the Scotts product. There's also Scotts Patch Master which is cheaper and I haven't used yet. I think I'm going to try just regular seed, and watering more often (a real pain here - there's no outside garden hose faucets, so I either need to use big watering buckets or run a hose from an indoor faucet. I have a 50' coiled garden hose with a sink-faucet adapter at one end and a trigger sprayer at the other for that purpose). I have a bag of Vigoro Starter Fertilizer 20-27-5, and have applied quite a bit of new seeding soil (of several varieties depending on location) since the ground is mostly hard clay. I did my best to loosen it with a metal gardening rake before adding a new layer of topsoil. Any recommendations as to what type of grass I should use? I'm near Washington DC, which means both humid 100Â°F+ in the summer and subfreezing icy winters. The big-box stores around here seem to favor tall fescoe, which is also what the combination seed/mulch/fertilizer products use in this market. I like the bright green color, how fast it grows, and its tolerance for all sorts of bad weather, but not the thin straight grass blades that get matted down like cheap carpeting when walked on. The second most popular here seems to be the generically-labeled "sun and shade mix". The real nurseries have more variety to choose from but also higher prices. I don't want anything that goes dormant or turns yellow or brown in the winter. The side yard is in heavy shade due to closely-spaced houses and lots of old trees, but the backyard (which I'm more concerned about since that's the main socializing area) gets alot of sunlight. I also hear some people say I shouldn't even try to grow from seed during the hot summer. But I'd like to have a lawn by fall if possible, when I plan to have a new renter. I could plant sod - but it's inconvenient given how thirsty the stuff is when new (given the water situation I mentioned earlier) and hard to transport for someone with a small car and a bad back. Any ideas?

Jackmanii is a type III and blooms on new wood. You said you cut it back by half last summer after it had bloomed. Did you cut it back again this spring to within a couple of inches of the ground? If not, then that might explain why the blooms this year are only on the top portion of the vines. The lower stems would have been old wood from last year whereas the vines at the top are new wood and that is where type IIIs bloom--new wood. Either way, there is nothing wrong with your plant.

I don't know for certain, but in the past what I have done is over water and stimulate a fungus. The fungus appears as if the plant is starving for water: they look wilted. Once it starts it's already too late. I think about plants like this. fuzzy leaves do not like to get wet. Zinnias do not like to get wet in the evenings. Vinca hate my soil. All are fungus related problems. sorry....the only petunias I ave successfully grown for any period of time are the lavendar self seeding variety. First of all, this is not pointing fingers or saying you didn't do the job sufficiently, but in all honestly from reading what you are saying it almost sounds like there is trapped contaminants still on the wall surface. There can be just a miniscule amount of entrapment and there will be adhesion problems ; (like immediately or down the road when one begins another project over the one on the wall). Could be a number of things consisting from moisture still trying to escape and the primer/paint applied to soon, small traces of residue still evident, amounts of cleaner still evident on the wall which would need additional clean rinses, or possible dust debris left behind. Right now your paint finish is still going through the coalescing process and is still in a vulnerable stage. I'm not there so I can't really first hand examine what you are dealing with, only in cyber space; Sometimes if left along and given the process of evaporation and coalescing, " the paint film will "dry down" on its own". Some things you might want to think about doing at this interval 1. if the paint is still able to peel away as you have indicated- do this now and continue to let the paint peel away on its own with you pulling it in away in its elastic stage. Pull it away to where it would actually stop with a good bond that did adhere. Make sure the edges are smooth to the hand/finger touch. The reason I say if the paint is still peelable is because if you try to sand back or sand away the vulnerable paint in this processing stage, it will only tack up or string together trying to sand. Thats why it is best to wait for #2. In this instance I would "only" after it has thoroughly dried and the evaporation has been removed, then would I get out your sander and sand away the areas that are peeling. Sand back to a smooth area and to an already good bond from another adjacent area. Make sure all of your sanding debris has been cleaned up. Use damp cloths and or vacuum. I would also clean these areas again with warm dawn water and rinse well to clear of any cleaner. Let completely dry this time before beginning the process again. Hope I haven't confused you. good luck.

I assume your drapes are not pleated? Without the pleat it is hard for the hook to hold on to anything. If it is just slipped through the silk, be very careful as it will pull on the delicate fabric and rip over time. The PB drapes have a column of 3, 1/2" threads sewn onto the back of their drapes for the hooks to slip into. Its what keeps the hooks in place. Then the other end is slipped through the smaller ring on the rod. If you are planning on opening and closing these drapes daily, I would use a traverse rod. They have pretty decorative ones as well as the standard white by Kirsch.

I have two sets of flat linen panels from RH. In both cases, I bought panels longer than what I needed and had them "hemmed" from the top, adding a stiffener at the top. That way, there was something for the pins to bite into.

I have double rings, a large one to go on the pole and a smaller one to accept the hooks. I have found it helpful to kind of pinch the hook closed around the rings so they pop off less.

My husband made wands for each of the panels, like the wands you see in a hotel, so we can pull them opened and closed without tugging on the fabric. He used dowels from the hardware store and an eye hook.

Thank you guys. hoosier girl that link was so helpful. Amysrq, they may need to be stiffer, although the silk ones are alread doubled at the top. I may buy some cloth tape and have my mom sew it on over the pins to hold them in place. Better than duck tape!

I know nothing about how to hang panels but just posting to tell you that your room is lovely. Will you share the paint color? It looks almost gray but my monitor is usually off.

I can't wait to redo my bedroom - someday!

juddgirl2...I think we have very similar tastes!!! I wish we loved closer, then we could go shopping and hit the antique malls! The wall color is BM kingsport gray and I love it! It's cool brown that leans a little gray but it's definately brown. The room is almost done, I just need to do something about those bare walls. Maybe I'll start another thread on that.

Pps, I know this is an old thread, but I absolutely love your bedroom, especially the bed. I have been looking for a bed just like that forever, but can't find one I really like. Can you tell me where you got it? Also, does it have any nailhead details? Can't really tell from the pic.

I know this is an old thread but WOW -- do RH drapes seriously not come with loops for the hooks? Sheesh! At that price, I would not be happy.
