Help with lime wash

We are renovating a red brick home and changing the look of the exterior through lime washing. I want an aged, mottled looked of a classically southern home, not the look of an opaque, painted brick. I sampled white and then ordered it sooner than I should have. I'm having trouble achieving the look despite dilutions. 1:1 dilution gives more of the effect, but turns pink. I'm looking for more brown or gray tones. Does anyone have experience and/or advice? Thanks in advance.
