Would this make a good DR centerpiece?

I posted these pics in my thread on curtain "rules", but not sure anyone who isn't interested in curtains will be looking there and I'd sure like some input on how this tureen would work in my room. My goal is to retain most of the masculine feel of the room, but soften it slightly. I have these slubby-fabric sheers on order that will replace the wood blinds:

I've removed the Fiesta dishes from the china cabinet and will replace them with some Johnson Brothers castoffs. (The little sombrero also came down from the donkey atop the china cabinet, but the donkey himself stays. I wuv him.)

Here's the room:

And the proposed "centerpiece", a vintage tureen (12.75" x 7.5"):

I'm so used to decorating with southwest/Mexican folk art that I'm feeling a bit uncertain about selecting pieces that will give me that slightly more traditional/feminine look that I'm craving a touch of right now. And I need to make a decision on this particular tureen fairly soon, so any input would be appreciated!
