One thing though, I prefer the blinds to the sheers. Would you consider bamboo shades or something along that line?

Oh, about the blinds - I'm just tired of them. I've hung some "temporary" sheers (they're actually the wrong color - bright white, and the ones I have on order are ivory) and I really like the way they open up the room and allow the light in while still concealing the view next door, for the most part. I do like bamboo shades, but think they'd darken up the room too much and just not provide exactly the atmosphere I'm looking for here.

Oh yes, the one Les found seems more you. At least the "you" I've imagined you to be :) Colorful and fun. As a bonus, that little brown animal looks like a burro! I hope it's a large tureen.

The majolica piece is described as: 3 quart lidded soup tureen with underplate and ladle made in Portugal. The open end of the tureen is oval and measures 7-1/2" x 9-3/4"; the entire tureen measures 13-1/4" handle-to-handle, stands 5-3/4" tall, and holds three quarts of liquid. Also included is a matching lid, oval underplate/platter measuring 11-1/4" x 14" and a 10" ladle.

Length-wise it's fine, but I'm just not sure about the height. At 5-3/4" tall it may be a bit squatty ... Then again, I'm just used to a taller piece on the table so maybe it's a matter of just getting used to something different! Thoughts?

I think Les's tureen might be a better fit for your room.

I get you on the sheers - I'm just not a sheers person. LOL

Thanks so much! I also just came across this one ... it's very simple in comparison to the majolica piece, but I do like it. It's about 8" x 14". And it's priced very low ...

Maybe I'm nuts, but I really like this little guy too! He's a bit pricey for me, but he's cute! (8-7/8" tall x 10-1/16" long.)

Ok, I hate the white one, I know it's cheap but to me, it looks cheap too. Clunky, heavy, no grace, but the deer one is charming in a kitschy way but I still think you need to keep looking.

The white tureen is just an unpainted version of the Majolica one. I like the Majolica but wonder if it has the height you need on the table.

For now, I'd add dried flowers or as les suggested......grasses.....to the vase you now have. I really like that vase!

I like the Majolica tureen. The tureen itself is squat, but the lid and plate below should add another 4-5 inches or so. How tall is your vase? I frequently see Portuguese pottery at my TJ Maxx.

i think the colorful one is cute...and to me, it seems the ht isn't including the lid---doesn't look that squat to me.

personally, i don't care for the deer- at least not centered on your table...!

i actually think a white one would look really nice, but if it's solid white, i'd possibly want to go alittle larger??? in your room, i almost think white would provide a simple elegance.....with the antlers and the bongos, etc there's lots of cool stuff going on already in there that i think the white could stand alone!!

I like the one Les showed you, but I do think a tureen will be too short for a table piece. I have a couple of them, one my MIL brought me from Europe, but it's just too short for the table.

I do have a pale green lidded picnic type basket on the table right now, but it has length to it which doesn't make it as "squatty."

What about setting it on a matching round platter of some sort? Or a table topper?

I think I'm tureen obsessed at the moment. I keep finding things online that I absolutely love, and then I see the price and just about fall over dead. $500 ... even $2,000! For a tureen? Yikes. That's some darn rich soup there.

Thanks for the links, Tina! I especially enjoyed the second one, which kinda made me feel like just about any tureen can be a thing of beauty! (I've seen some butt-ugly ones on eBay though ...!)

I kinda like this little pumpkiny-looking piece. It's fairly large, 8.5" tall by 13" wide, handle to handle.

I'm sure you're as good or better at googling than I am but if you haven't been there yet, look at Bordallo Pinheiro (love, love the cabbage tureen and have for years) on eBay and also Gien France china, my personal favorite.

You have to click on each pattern to look at tureens and only some patterns have them. Not cheap, but not as expensive as some tureens I've looked at!

Echoing NO!....That's a pattern that around here was a supermarket deal....one plate free with every $5 purchase....then the serving pieces later.

As I see it, you are wonting something "softer" for your table and may follow up with other "softer more feminine stuff later? That right?
How about Glass?....how about a tall covered compote in an old EAPG pattern? This one is a steal!!....and angular enough for your Mission table and chairs....as a matter of fact it's of the same period.....and I think it would look smashing on your table!

Okay, you might think I'm crazy, but I have a vision...

I think you need something taller than just a compote or tureen due to the height of your chairs & height of the chandalier. You need to tie these together. I went to Goodwill's site - it's amazing what you find on there for very little $. I'm suggesting a vase of this type on top of a rustic painted wood box. Then you can add a tureen or compote that is shorter. This would give you 3 items of interest...short, taller, tallest...like the concept of "Heaven, Man, & Earth" in design. You would also have a mix of texture in the wood, ceramic, & glass. Make a STATEMENT on that table just like you've made a statement everywhere else in that room.

You seem drawn to white, so what about a milk glass punch bowl? They are taller than tureens, and easy to fill with seasonal decorations or food.

I also looked at "large jadite", I'm salivating over some of them and the prices aren't bad at all! Not sure if that is enough of the feminine that you're looking for.

I would also suggest elevating pretty much anything you end up getting unless it's exceptionally tall.

OK, I'm slightly embarrassed that I for one second considered the last tureen I posted. Ugh - the more I look at it, it's totally 70s and not in a good way. What can I say - my head is swimming with ideas and you guys are feeding my obsession! ;-D Love, love, love the other ideas presented here and now I think I probably need a different centerpiece for the table to suit my ever-changing mood. (Yeah, like I could afford that!)

How I wish I hadn't sold my gorgeous turquoise cut glass punch bowl. I bought it to use at my wedding reception and shortly thereafter I went towards a total Mexican/southwest decor throughout my house and it just didn't quite work. Well, I wish I had it back now!

I do like the idea of using 3 items on the table and creating height; however, I have to make sure that whatever I use on the table is not easily knocked over by cats. My brats just love to go running (and usually crashing) across the dining room table. (Yes, animals on the dining table - that is gross. I know.)

One of our fellow posters was sweet to send me a link to this wonderful tureen. I love the crazing it has going on and I think the colors and feel of the piece are wonderful. What do you guys think? (Size-wise it's perfect.)

I'm always attracted to an item's shape first - that one is perfect. Love the color, too, and you say the size is great...I think it's a keeper.

Gorgeous tureen, Bumblebeez! I love pieces like that. The last tureen I posted is large, actually - 15" long and 9.5" tall so the scale is right for my table, I think. I went ahead and placed a bid on it and have my fingers crossed. The more I went back and looked at it, the more I fell in love. I think it will tie in nicely with my artwork and still bring a touch of curvy femininity to the room. I'm not sure it's an actual tureen because there's no slot for a ladle, but whatever its intended purpose - I really like it!

I totally understand where you are going with the nubby sheers-I have white blinds too (need for privacy)--I LOVE the LOOK of bamboo shades behind panels, I agree it would make it dark.

And I "wuv" your donkey too ... can I ask where you got it? I have 3 miniature donkeys and am always looking for nice donkey decorations.

Pamghatten, my little donkey was bought from a beach vendor in Puerto Vallarta. I wanted one the first trip we made down there and didn't get one, so on our next trip I promised myself I would find a way to get him home on the plane, and I did! He could actually act as a centerpiece, with his little baskets filled with flowers or even napkins and utensils! I love donkeys! Even though it's a bit OT, do you have a pic of your minis you can share? They are sooooo adorable!

I have cats too & know what you mean...there's a certain picture on a table I'm always picking up...so I'm thinking about that aspect...hmmmmmmm...
