Wow! Look at those colors! I really love and admire color in a home. But i've never been comfortable with it in MY home. I'm somewhat embarrassed to say, i have a "neutral minimal" personality. :) This room i'm working up is a departure for me. Having said that, i love the idea of that lounge. There's a pillar at the entrance to the room that may make for an awkward traffic flow if something as substantial as a lounge is used. But if i can swing it, it would be much better than bench seating. I'll play with that! Thank you ... And as for mixing styles, like you, Parma42, i'm all for it! My mother always said if you surround yourself with things you love, somehow it all seems to work.

There are others with more experience with this than me, but I would think that you would kind of "dry" paint it. Load your brush and then dab some of it off before pouncing small amounts onto the frame. I have even used wadded up paper towels with very little amounts of paint on it, almost dry, to dab on paint. I would get one of those small bottles of craft paint at JoAnns or Hobby Lobby and experiment. If you dab some on and don't like it, you could probably wipe it off. I have also used a product called Treasure Gold by Plaid Enterprises that really worked for me and was easy. I actually just remembered this after I had typed all of the above. I used it in kind of a pewter to go over a gold mirror. I used my fingers to put it on sparingly and then wiped over it with a paper towel. It was fast and easy and only cost a few dollars. Hope I am not confusing you, and I also hope others chime in with some suggestions for you.

Sandplum1, it would look good with a thicker frame...unfortunately I can't get the backing off, it's extremely sturdy and well-attached (and made in England), I couldn't remove it without damaging the mirror. Pennydesign and carolb, excellent ideas. I may go with a gold or bronze! Decoenthusiaste, I believe it's '70s and it goes well in the 60s-70s mid-mod style room, though you can't see due to the lousy picture! I'm asking how to improve the frame because...I want to keep the mirror. ;)

It depends a lot on the style of the house and the style of the window and other factors. On my house I chose black windows on the exterior and on the interior the sashes only are black and the rest of the trim is the room color. That's because the original design of my house spec'd black steel windows (which were never installed). That said, these are very narrow casements with very narrow horizontal muntins only. If they were a typical kind of thick double hung they would probably look terrible on this house. No window color is going to go with all colors or all houses. My house did not look great with white. A historic (200 yr. old) house by me that had dark green (but rotting) windows that were probably original is getting new windows and so far they are white. They don't look right either, they are much too bright and white paint was very rare for trim on a house of this age, it would have been off-white at best unless they were very rich. So without knowing more about your situation it's hard to say whether black frames would be appropriate in your situation or not, regardless of whether they are currently a fad. If they are appropriate, they will look good whether it is a fad or not. If they look good they will still look good after the fad is over.
