WTH? Second topic I've done this week in the convo forum and it shows up here!

Unless anyone knows the solution to this problem, please ignore this topic and let it die a fast death. lol

I look like crap most weekends when I run out and do errands wearing my gym clothes (thinking if I wear gym clothes I might be more likely to work out), no makeup and hair up in a ponytail. I work in a professional environment, wearing suits and makeup all week and taking the time to do my hair every morning. It's the last thing I want to do on the weekend unless we have social plans. I've run into people from work who barely recognized me with my "weekend" look.

Last night, we were out of milk and it was late so I put on a sweatshirt over my tshirt and went to the grocery store wearing my flannel pajama bottoms and flip flops. It was late and I was tired and comfortable, so I didn't want to change. I was completely covered from head to toe, but still!

One funny thing happened a few months ago when we were on vacation. We were staying in a nice hotel that had big fluffy (pink) bathrobes and an amazing pool. I wore the bathrobe over my bathing suit that morning and went straight to the pool. It was so nice we didn't want to take the time to get dressed and go to breakfast so I offered to drive to the McDonalds down the street and bring back breakfast so the family could eat poolside.

After driving around and around the McDonalds a few times, I realized there was no drive-thru. This community must have had strict zoning regulations because I don't think there was a drive-thru anywhere near the hotel. Since I really didn't want to go all the way back to the hotel to get dressed and head out again, or make my family wait an extra 30 minutes for breakfast. So, with my head held high and shoulders back I walked into McDonalds in my bathrobe and flip flops, trying not to die of embarassment, and ordered my pancakes and Egg McMuffins. Again, I was covered from head to toe but I tried to pull the strings of my bathing suit out of the neck more so everyone could see I was wearing something underneath! I may have been embarassed but not enough to delay breakfast :-)

That was such a funny post......GOOD FOR YOU!!!! I think sometimes when you reach a certain age, just don't care what others think, 20 years ago I would have never done some of the things I would do now.

lol - it is funny now but still makes me cringe a little bit inside when I think about it, although it's also true for me that the older I get the less I care about what other people might think about my sometimes less than stellar appearance. I would never have done this in my 20's or maybe even my 30's.

It's a bit strange that even though it was pretty crowded inside and I got some odd looks, no one said anything except for one lady who was sitting near the entrance with her friend. When I passed by their table she said, "Oh, my God!" It actually made me feel a little better and I just held my head a bit higher and went to stand in line to order my food :-)

judd, at the salon where I get my hair done, one of the customers ALWAYS has the stylist put in all her foils, and then the customer LOVES to get in her car and drive thru the McD's across the street before getting under the dryer.

She did it once when she had missed lunch, and enjoyed it so much that now she does it every time!

I get up at the crack of early:o'dark to go Black Friday shopping every year (yes, I'm one of THOSE people). I roll out of bed and throw on clothes, but no makeup, hair bairly combed, etc. I was pleased to see that last year, I was one of the better dressed shoppers at the local walmart -- there were actually several people who were wearing either pajamas or bathrobes -- one lady was even wearing fuzzy bunny slippers instead of shoes.

I'm guessing that McDonald's gets a lot of out-of-towners who would expect there to be a drive-thru window, so I bet you're not the first (or the last) to do that. :-)

When you have a teenage daughter in the house, apparently you 'look like crap' even when you've made an effort....especially when you are going to be in the vicinity of her friends....

I've never been opposssed to going out w/o makeup but my hair is crazy curly, frightening and large w/o anything being done to it. I have Diana Ross sized hair when it's gets combed out nightly but every morning M, W, F before work or before going to an EVENT I tame down my scary frizz into happy curls. Up until child 2 you would NEVER catch me in public w/o having my fro taken care of.

Tuesday, Thursday and wknds though you can find me traipsing around publicly w/ a giant frizz bun on top of my head and a halo of frizz around my face that won't fit into the bun. This started happening on a regular basis after child 2.

2yrs after child 3 you can find me going to get my mail or move my van on street cleaning day in mismatched jammies, slippers and a headful of crazy and I'll even stop to talk to ya now!

Somedays I'm sure you can't tell the difference between myself and the dear sweet albeit heavily medicated lady that lives across the street when she goes off her meds.

I think I eveb had my bun going on when I met lkplatow at my yard sale! Oooooyyyyyyy!

I won't even go into the time my neighbor and I ditched the kids on our husbands and sat out on my front porch steps in our jammies and crazy hair w/ a pitcher of beer in the middle of the afternoon.

We joked about how we could hear the surrounding property values dropping minute by minute.

Before I knew it though our husbands migrated back and soon my double wide porch steps were full of other neighbors looking kind of crazy having a beer while all of the kids played in my fenced in side yard.

uh, I almost never wear makeup, so yeah I guess I do!

My housekeeper is 4 parts Scots-Irish, 1 part black, and 3 parts Native American, and has the most astonishing thick, curly hair. I have envied it for years. I am on the other side of the hair wheel, and have the same pale, thin hair I had when I was 5 - so my challenge is not big giant frizz but stringy pathetic capellini when the weather is hot and/or damp, or any time if it isn't perfectly cut. Pony tails are a little pitiful for a woman of my age, particularly when the whole business is about the circumference of a pencil. So until I have washed and groomed, I try mightily not to appear, at least beyond my own porch.
Hers takes 12-24 hours to get fully dry when she washes it. Mine? Twenty minutes, tops, without the dryer. So there are compensations for everything, I suppose!
My worst getting-caught-unprepared moment was while our previous house was for sale...we had added a door into the newly finished garage/workshop which had a lockable doorknob in addition to the deadbolt. Our realtor was religious about making sure to lock up well when she left a showing, and in spite of my pleas, had turned that lock as well. So at 7:30 one morning, while my husband was out of town, I went down to get a screwdriver or something, and locked myself into the garage wearing only my underpants and a T-shirt of my husband's.
Mercifully, we had also put a phone in there, so I called our agent, got her immediately, and she came and rescued me within the half hour. The only other way out was to open the garage door and walk two houses down (and we had acre lots and no sidewalks) during the commuting hour to get a spare key...and that was not going to happen!

I'm cracking up at the thought of sitting outside on the porch in the middle of the day in my pj's drinking a pitcher of beer with my girlfriends! I might have to try that one, except we're so isolated that only one neighbor can see me from my front porch so we'll have to try it at a friend's house.

I've also gone down to the mailbox on the busy street in front of our house wearing my pajamas. I just hope the cars are driving by so quickly no one will notice.

The Walmart pictures are great! Walmarts aren't too nice in my area of Southern California (much different than those in the south where my family lives). I was just thinking the other day while standing in the return lane - "Who are these people?" It doesn't take much to be well-dressed in my local Walmart!

I would be mortified to leave my salon with all the foils in my hair! It's pretty scary looking :-)

Your stories are hilarious! Now I'm glad this topic magically appeared here. I was SO embarrassed that it did.

One of the best parts about winter is when it's time for a longish jacket or coat, at least to the hips, I can do errands wearing my sweat pants/shirt and tennis shoes, and go..ahem..braless. hee hee. Then when I get home I don't have to change clothes!

Fall is coming to us in spurts these past few weeks but yesterday was extremely hot and humid as all get out, and I think that's one of the reasons I didn't give a darn. I was sweating like a pig when I got home.

However, I did buy two Estee Lauder lipsticks that I can't wait to wear! lol

Count me in with Bronwynsmom. I take it from my grandmother. She always got up and dressed, touched up her hair, etc. Said it helped her face the day. I of course have play clothess, etc. and I work in the yard, outside a good bit. Doesn't mean I run out anywhere in those clothes though. I'm usually a sweaty mess after yardwork. On days at home, I'm very casual (yoga pants, etc. alot, shorts and tanks in summer), but not hole-y, ripped up clothing unless doing something really nasty or heavy duty yard work. I don't wear alot of make-up at any time, but if I'm going out, I'll put on a touch. I have a wash and go hair style, so it's very easy and quick to do my hair.

I'm not a fan of sweats as they are not attractive on most and we don't get cold enough that often for sweats around here. There are some cuter, updated, less bulky sweat pants, cardigans, etc. out now.

I feel better if I've made an effort with my appearance. It never fails if I go out looking not so hot, that's when I'll run into the most people.

Bronwynsmom, it's very private here and I'm often out back in my nighties, so I get the t-shirt and undies. Your story cracked me up!!

Tina, not so private here, but at least we have a privacy fence and I'm often still wearing jams outdoors in the morning.

I do make an effort when out in public, but not anywhere near the way my mom did. Even when she stayed at home during the day she always looked put-together. Heck, she was 90 years old and still coloring her hair.

Oh my gosh...that's me practically daily! DH refuses to go to places with me on the weekends because I'm pretty much in grubbies the whole time. I did catch a glimpse of myself in the bathroom mirror at Home Depot the other day...shorts covered with dried paint, t-shirt stained with various unknown paint, drywall mud and whoknowswhatelse, dirty garden clogs. Hair in a half ponytail with spiderwebs and leaves in it! And my face had dirt smeared on my cheek. My hands were clean, tho! I'd been working on the shed and ran out of nails...didn't figure I needed to go in and clean up just to go back out to the work. Hey, at least I remembered to put on a bra that morning!!

Rarely. I always have makeup on and "street clothes" in public.
At home, it's a different story. I wear old, yucky clothes that can stand cooking grease, cleaning, dog hair and gardening. I will change into something half decent if dh is around, but when I do, he asks where I'm going!
I really don't think he cares what I wear at home. Out is a different story, he wants to be proud of me.
Of course, if anyone comes over I wear nice clothes.

I wander around our property in my nightie with the dogs but the neighbors aren't close by, heck I'm more worried about mosquitoes.

On the days I don't leave the house (many) I find I feel much better about myself if I wear makeup and do my hair.
But then naturally I don't want to go work in the yard, I want to go out!

I have a small farm and work at a bank ... so I have work clothes, farm clothes and casual clothes.

I wear makeup to work, but don't bother on the weekends unless I'm doing something special. I try real hard to keep the farm clothes on the farm, since they can be really bad ... but sometimes I just have to run out for something I really need quick.

Oh well ... if people don't like the way I look that's their problem!

Oh yes! I used to always go out looking pretty as a picture. Nowadays I always go out looking like an ugly old lady.

I have no other choice, except maybe a paper bag, but you know it's hard to keep the eye holes lined up. lol!

Myself? Honestly no. If I'm headed to the gym on the weekend I'll throw a hat on but normally I'll slap on a little blush and sometimes mascara. I'll go without it if we're at the beach, actually on the beach, or there's been a few times I needed to run down to the store quick.

I feel completely unfinished without makeup. It feels like I'm walking around without what some would consider a necessity... like pants. So if we're going out anywhere 99% you won't find me without it.

On the weekends I'm usually in comfy clothes (jeans/tshirt) and sometimes I won't put any makeup on but it's rare like if I'm working on a grubby project and didn't stop to take the time.

I just feel better when I'm cleaned up and my face and hair are done.

I am the painter in our house and I have 2 tshirts, 1 pr of shorts and 1 pr of jeans that I have worn while painting every room of every house that I have lived in for the last 20 years (thank goodness they still fit). These items are splotched with a huge assortment of dried paint. If I have a day now where I'm heavy gardening, for example, I wear some combination of these 4 garments.

On days where I work in the yard or just feel like being sloppy, I wear these clothes. I also skip make up and put 4 barrettes and possibly a rubber band in my hair to hold it back. Once the barrettes have been in for a while, my hair takes new shape.. so they HAVE to stay in until I clean up later in the day.

If I have to run errands, off I go. So, yes, I look I go out looking like crap and don't care.

When I was young and stupid, though, I would have been oh so very presentable when going out. But I've come to believe that life's too short to primp for every activity.
