Table Linens

Hey Folks,

I really love the table cloths that Williams Sonoma carries, but would like more of a selection. Anyone know of where else online I could find even more of a selection? Their's would be at the top of my price point.

I've linked one site that I like below. I also look on eBay. They have a nice selection of W-S, April Cornell, etc.

Hi Punk! Nice to see you over here! I think you're talking about paper napkins? I agree that for napkins, that's the way to go, and we'll be using those from now on, but the tablecloths? We entertain, at the very least, for 4th of July, New Year's Eve, and Thanksgiving. Plus the occasional Mexican food night, birthdays, etc. I was just poking around the internet, and saw good reviews on a Canopy brand cloth from Walmart. Anyone ever seen those in person?

I don't have china, but do have colbalt blue glassware. I use white damask when doing a more formal table, but have bright yellow that I use for more casual settings. For Christmas, I use earthenware dishes, with snowmen or snowflakes on them (mostly shades of blue and white). Just this year I found a cloth that has silver snowflakes embroidered on a white background. I found glass snowflake ornaments that I will personalize for placesettings and will most likely use dark blue cloth napkins. Glasses will be clear, plain stemmed, but I am considering making some wire stem charms to personalize them. (It depends on my MIL -- if she comes we will be "dry". If she does not come, dinner will last much longer and and the wine will flow!). I found a paper mache snowman (a bit more off white than I really wanted, with blue and gold accents), about 25 inches tall holding a bowl on his head. He is sitting in the middle of my table right now with some bright red apples and a few (they were tasty) dark red grapes drapping out of the bowl. I also have snowmen egg cups, but instead of eggs they are holding round candles (like little snowballs) in the cups. Susan

I have a whole chest of napkins that I bought from T.J.Maxx and that is all I use, never paper. I epecially like the big white dinner napkins they have, a dozen for fifteen bucks.

Not to brag....but I am also somewhat of an expert on laundry. I worked for a time in the product testing labrotory of a major appliance maker. We studied the science of how clothes are soiled, what makes up that soil and what products and actions are best to remove them with the least wear on the items. And cold water DOES dissolve oils and grease. It's not the heat that does it but the detergent. As an example think how you spray a cleaner on a greasy counter and wipe the grease right off....no need to boil it. And body oils do not turn to wax in spite of what the "experts" on the laundry forum say.

Happy to help. I thought about it some more and, other than eBay, one of my favorite places recently for table linens has been Anthropologie. Unfortunately, you really need to shop in-store because they don't keep much on the web site. However, their look may be too bohemian for your taste.

I was going to suggest Ebay also. I have 2 large leaves for my table and it was really hard to find nice tablecloths to fit that configuration but I did on Ebay.

i gotten some nice tablecloths at crate and barrel...some nice colors and very nice quality.

That's great that you were able to find something that worked for you, Rosesstink. I have a similar problem in that I have a 54" diameter table in my breakfast room. Seventy inches will work, but 90" is even better. It's not that easy to find much selection of rounds in those dimensions. The selection is getting better, though. For a long time, I could only find 60" rounds in pretty prints.

Once a month at our local Farmer's Market, they have product vendors (Tupperware, remodeling options, a new Montessori preschool promoter, bamboo socks-loved those). There's a great booth with tablecloths from Provence. I've bought 2 so far. When Robinson's was still in existance, I bought some there, and now I sometimes find something I want at Macy's. I like the Farmer's Market best.

Here's a website with really beautiful European table linens. I've had good luck with Williams Sonoma sales, and resellers on eBay. Amazon carries some of the French brand Garnier Thiebaut.
