what color goes with purple wall

Recently I painted an accent wall with Benjamin Moore "Purple Lotus" -- this is in a living room with north facing windows and the purple wall is opposite the windows. The other 3 walls are Benjamin Moore "Putnam Ivory". The trim is Benjamin Moore "Simply White."

In the room are 2 Rowe chairs, (same upholstry color as the Purple Lotus), a Natuzzi leather sofa in camel color leather, a medium dark wood Hooker console, and 2 end tables and a large coffee table in the same wood color, as well as an area rug in the same Purple Lotus color.

My dilemna is: I don't feel the Putnam Ivory is complimentary to the Purple Lotus and would love some direction to other paint colors that would go with the accent wall.

The room faces north and I LOVE the purple -- just can't seem to find other colors to compliment it. So, I'm turning to the color experts here to help with some colors.

I'd considered Benjamin Moore "Pale Moon" a medium yellow, but again, don't think it compliments the purple.

I have no means to link pictures, so hopefully the descriptions I've given will be of help. Thanks in advance for any consideration.

We used a dark purple on 2 large walls (BM's Purple Rain) and BM's Wales Green on adjacent walls. The green and purple combo has always worked for me in clothing or upholstery, so I absolutely love it on the walls. You could try out other shades of green as well. I think you will love how they play with each other.

I don't know what goes with a purple wall, but I was standing in the grocery line the other day and thumbed through a magazine with color ideas and beige with purple was absolutely beautiful. Who would have thought that beige deserved any credit at all, but with that purple, -- I'm looking around for a room to paint!!

My son has a very elegant in an old world sort of way powder room which has very deep gold..almost brownish gold, wallpaper. The accent colors are a deep purple.

I had never seen this color combo before and now I would like to do a room in the same colors.

Purple, copper, dark gold with "dark" being the key word, brass and black are a perfect match. Light on the black with some cream thrown in. The room is a jewel tone which is always cozy but elegant.

And believe me… I’m an over thinker. I looked at a gazillion whites and read a bunch of articles about undertones, which way the condo is facing, etc. So glad I just went with it.

You bought the house, yay! Congratulations! I like your idea of putting in doors in the back. That means more light for sure, and more northern light, so clear light. My go-to white is RAL 9010, which is not a brand but a colour that is one of the standardised colours that are used a lot in Europe. In your case, however, because you also like a light grey and because you have an older house, I'm thinking of British company Farrow&Ball, that produces (heritage) colours that are perfect for period houses. Their paints have a lovely, soft quality that work with both traditional and modern interiors. I would recommend you order two or three sample pots and try it out on the spot. Try "Strong White" (which is actually a very light grey) and "Ammonite" (a subtle, neutral light grey). If you want to go even lighter, I like "Wevet" (white with a hint of grey). If you like the Scandinavian style, have the floor refinished in a light to mid tone, nothing dark. That will have the bonus of making your house feel a little bit bigger too :)

Purple is the complement of yellow. So if you use purple with golden oak, the oak will look very yellow and the purple very purple. It's a very energetic effect. If you're going for something calmer, then you will want to stay away from complementary colour combos.

Are you in GA? If so, I'd think about using something a little darker than the cap so the inevitable red clay stains won't be as visible. If that's not red clay in the photo, how does the house color look with the bluestone?

I would do your walls in the same camel as your sofa. Then use yellow as an accent color...wall decor, candles, pillows, etc. Purple & yellow are complimentary colors & you need to keep the purple & camel your main colors & yellow the accent. 60% purple, 30% camel, 10% yellow. (Hopefully the camel sofa wouldn't be on a camel wall though)

It will be stunning!!!

I have Hawthorne Yellow, and Caponata in my dining room. Looks good. Although I will say that dark colors tend to show the dust more.

I agree that camel colour walls will be a nice neutral to play with your purple accent wall. I love deep orange or a spicy colour to add as an accent colour.

Thank you for all the ideas -- now I'll have to make some decisions -- so it's back to the paint store to look at color strips.

Purple with anything in the yellow family makes me think of Easter. I love a green with purple, though.

I posted the purple above, and would agree with the suggestions for something in the gold to green family. Some metallic bronzes have a greenish or goldish tine and could be fabulous too.
