We have three sets of french doors and one full glass with two full glass sidelites plus twelve other to the floor or low windows with sills on the main level of our home. Three young cats. They too love looking out the windows. I've found that they tend to leave the sheers that are double rodded on the french doors since they can see through them without having to move them. They just sit close. The curtains in the ladies parlor are loose at the bottom, therefore move. You know if something moves a cat will go after it. They have snagged them something terrible. Luckily so far I can pull all but one snag out.

Before you spend all sorts of money on new window covers that may or may not work, I think I'd invest in a couple mroe cafe rods and attach your sheers at the bottom and see how that works. If it works you can always buy new sheers if you need to. The only time our kitties (all 18 months and younger)have used their paws around the sheers is when a bug gets behind one and they want the bug.

If you have pictures of your room to share I'm sure I or other's can come up with other ideas if this doesn't appeal to you.

Hi here are the pictures before I had cats, not that the bottom just had a rod but not hooked on, because the curtain might have shrunk (we got them with the house) it does not reach the bottom hook.

But now everyday and not worried about being showy, it is just this way..

Of course it is more trashy looking than this since I had the cats for a few years now.

So the HD cell blinds might not be the best look but I am willing to trade for something that can freely when I am home.

If it were me, I'd leave them until I could paint. Then I would probably opt for the integrated blinds because of the cats. Wait, can you get integrated blinds for wood doors? Anybody know?

I've linked you to Home Depot below to show you what I believe greenthumbfish was talking about. I've seen them in the store for less, but they'd still run into money needing four of them.
If you don't need your windows completely covered for privacy maybe using clear contact paper on the top two thirds leaving the bottom for your kitties to look out. Contact brand makes what's called frosted contact paper, but it has a texture to it. Their "clear" looks frosted on glass though. It still lets light in, but blocks the view and keeps glare down too. You might want to try it. I large roll is about five dollars at Wal Mart. Hopefully this weekend I'll get a chance to redo ours. I'll take pix to share if I do.

Thanks, wow those are pricey, but it's probably not what I want because it hides the bevel that is cut into the door to hold the glass. I do need the privacy (small houses and small backyards), maybe I am going to get new sheers and pin up the bottom and see how it goes.

Does anyone know how much a pull down cellular from Hunter Douglas might cost?

we are keeping that paint for a while, it's not as hideous in person, just my camera flash is making it as nasty looking as it could. But I understand it's controversal, we are trying to add some beige and white to complement, although we really liked wood furniture and always turned brown. Also we are going to put mirrors and pictures on the wall so we are not looking as much orange.

poorowner, it's not the color, it's the fireplace surround, and perhaps it's not as bad in person, I just question that as you have so much light coming in through those windows.

The fireplace surround (or lack of) is being worked on this week, I looked at this hole in the wall for 3 years!

I am installing marble tiles and a wood mantel, and a large mirror. We won't be looking at much of the paint on that wall when I am done.

There was alot of light when the picture was shot, but only because it was taken in winter where the sun comes in from the south.

my son and daughter in law.. just built a beautiful new home and they have french doors going to their patio and they have a cat.. they put up blinds that can be raised from the top or raised from the bottom.. I think they got them for a blind store.. they are pretty cool.. they also go them for one of the master bedroom only those are the ones that block out the light as my son gets up early for work and goes to bed sometimes when it is still light out and this way his bedroom is dark.. I think they are a little pricey.. next time I am up at their new home I will take a photo and show you what they look like.. I do not think I have a photo in my stash..
