I really like it, too, but since I live in the woods, I love a house that looks like it belongs rather than a city house out of its element. What about painting the door a beautiful cream color?

Not sure if you're planning to, or have, but having the brick cleaned of the moss and algae will really make the green trim look much prettier because it will contrast more with the true brick color.

It looks lovely as is - perhaps paint only the front door for added color.

I love it just as it is. I agree that a power wash of the brick might help, although I kind of like the brick as it is too.

I also like the green. I wonder if there had been overgrown shrubs in front of that area where the greeny mossy look is.

Love it as is. Everyday on the way to work I pass a house that is stained wood, but a similar depth of color. It is also in a woods setting and had a similar green color trim. A couple of year ago they painted the trim cream.

Sigh. I still remember how lovely it was and still when I look it think it does not look nearly as good as it did. All you focus on is the trim, not the lovely house because the trim stands out so much. It is kind of jarring.

I wish they would go back to the green.

Maybe a different dark color if you don't like the green like black?

I love it! I live in the woods too and our home is brown cedar, stone, with green shutters. Our front door is cream but we are going to replace the door and I am thinking green or red.

There were several overgrown bushes in the front of the house which were all cut down a couple of weeks ago. You literally couldn't even see the brick, the light, anything. We are planning on powerwashing too.

All of the trim is a dull, flat paint which adds to the blahness (IMO). I guess we could paint it a semi or high gloss in the same or similar green. The door is also a conundrum - how would that look in black or dark brown if the rest is still green?

I love it, too! When I read your post I thought it was going to be an awful green. Then I paged down to your pic and though whoa I LOVE it!

I love it, but if you're just not feeling it, perhaps a café au lait type of color? I've seen some brick homes with that, or caramel, or a grey for the trim; especially when changing over from white it looks very soothing.

I know this is getting a little repetitive, but I love it as is too!

I love when a house seems like it belongs in its setting like yours does. Maybe experiment first with dashes of color from flowers in big cast iron urns, and/or a cement/wood planter under that beautiful window, etc. after having the house and roof professionally cleaned- you may be responding to that little bit of needed upkeep and trying to fix it through the wrong channels at this point. I so love your house, sigh....

I like the color. The only alternative id suggest is a bottle green.

I do see the "blah factor". I have three thoughts:

1. Screen doors on front doors are a pet peeve of mine. If you can from a functional POV, id get rid of it and make the door glossy with a large knocker

2. The lights flanking the door are too small IMHO and kind of generic. How about large, more interesting, copper ones?

3. You need planters and flowers.

I agree with the above - powerwashing the brick, cleaning the moss off the roof, using a semigloss for the trim in the (nearly) same color of green, and painting the front door a different color. My new suggestion is to paint your interior a different color. Your exterior is beautiful and so peaceful with its surroundings.

mtnrdredux nailed it. The house will look fabulous with new lights and some planters (and a good cleaning).

I think flat paint for the trim on your house is great instead of glossy paint. Some of the historic homes around where I live have flat paint on trim, and it looks very appropriate.

What a beautiful house, marthastoo! It has a lovely patina as well as good design.

There are several brick homes in our neighborhood with green trim like your photo. I really like that combo. Ours is just beige/cream, which is even more boring, though it works. Our front door is black, and the faux shutters are black.

I do agree with the wonderful suggestions above:

a)Do consider ditching the screen door on the front door ... paint the whole front door area (door and sidelights) in high-gloss black and add a large pewter iron knocker ...

b)Power Wash

c)Add larger lanterns -- and garden lights.

d)Add large black urns on each side of the front door -- and bright seasonal color (maybe orange mums?) plus add some taller bushes in the gardens on each side of the bay window. Add a fountain by the sitting area. Add an outdoor sofa and chairs to that area with a bright umbrella for the warmer months.

e)Have a party! :) ((just teasing .....!))

If you use a satin it's a good compromise between gloss and flat.

I think once the roof is replaced/moss removed, and the algae is removed from the brick, it will be beautiful.

I like it too, and agree, a glossier green in a similar shade would maybe make you happier. I disagree about removing the storm door. I dont know where you are located, and maybe you need a storm door for protection in the winter, but, I am also pretty sure, you have a few bugs and mosquitos in that woodsy area, and with the storm door, you can open the door in most seasons, to let fresh air in. Without the storm door, you are stuck with having that door closed all the time, and that would absolutely drive me bonkers.
