Possible CL Chair find - Can I slipcover this?

I am considering this chair for sale on CL--most likely for my bedroom. I'd like to slipcover it and perhaps even make something myself with the matelasse bedspreads as discussed before. However, it is a recliner. Is it still possible to slipcover it?

The simple answer is yes, but. You can grab a pattern from your local fabric store. They do make them for recliners. Or if you've ever made your own patterns, you could treat the bulk of the chair like any other upholstered chair (pin fabric wrong sides out, draw across with disappearing ink, etc.) and then sew elasticized cozies (like little fitted sheets) for the moving parts taking extra care to line up the patterns properly.

laxsupermom: Thanks for the answer. I'm really wanting to sink my teeth into a DIY project like this--only I've never, ever done any upholstered item before so this chair is attractive as I would not be sinking too much $$ in case it did not turn out. Thanks! I'm waiting for a response from the seller regarding the dimensions.

Thank you, bleigh, jessica and rockmanor! I hope she does like it once I'm done. dianalo - I laughed when I read the resisting pink walls part. My DD HAS to have pink walls! It's her one request. I've convinced her to agree to BM Queene Anne pink though - it's a very subtle ballet pink and will hopefully look more creamy than bubblegum pink. walnutcreek - thanks so much for the Urban Outfitters info. Those are exactly the ones that I was thinking of. I was going to make some but I'm running out of steam and those are a lot of ruffles! Did you order yours yet? I'm wondering how sheer they are. I'll try switching the bed and large dresser again. I was looking forward to using the large mirror but could use a smaller one over the bedside dresser if I decide to change the arrangement. The old diamond-paned window from this room is still in the garage waiting for a makeover - maybe I could use it as a mirror! Love those pale green glass knobs! I originally wanted to use green but DD decided on pink. I do have an idea to use those for another project but will probably stay with clear or pink for the small dresser in this room.

BH - now at THAT price, why wouldn't you scoop up one of those tables for your coffee table? They look like they'd be perfect cut down. CP, that love seat is adorable! I just love the old one in my office, that started out rust and ivory big checks from 'Country Farm Furniture', I don't know how many years ago. The small size is perfect, and it looks to be the size of yours. Great job re-doing it! Update - my sister scoffed up the 'all leather' chair above faster than you can imagine. It's in her bedroom already where I hear it looks great. My mother wants the other one, but I told her I'd find her another chair for her bedroom! It'll be the payment for the next time she has to baby sit my dogs when I travel for work.

Your chair will be wonderful to see when you finish. DD and I stayed at Hotel Monaco in Portland, OR some time back and enjoyed seeing balloon style chairs there in a part of their extended foyer. I had not remembered exactly what theirs looked like, (just had fun sitting in them), but this photo below was one from their website...and it's a much smaller style and has more open arms, but still with the covered top. I love the fabric you're planning to use and think that will be so great looking. BTW, thanks for the info about Joann's since I've been eyeing a home dec fabric there, so this wkend will be a great time to get it! Can hardly wait to see your finished chair.

Another CL Chair possibility for my FR - Bradington Young?

A simple Google turns up the Bradington Young website. They appear to be proud of their leather furniture and offer details about the constructiona and leather grades, ect.. Clicking on their chair link shows lots of distressed leather. It seems to be their signature style. I could see that CL chair in a Western motif with the right architecture and accessories. It could look right in many styles of decor but not all. It is definately masculine in style and would look great in an urban loft condo with exposed brink and natural floors. I bet a guy would love this chair for a rec room since it certainly does not look "fussy". It looks terrible on that garage floor. Why don't these people consider the background in their photos? They should have tacked up a white sheet behind it and taken the pic. Hopefully no one else will see the beauty this chair has due to the lack of merchandising in the photo, and they will sell it for a song to you with no other offers coming in. Any other opinions on whether or not I should get this chair?

I heard back from the seller and the dimensions are:

W : 34inch D : 37inch H : 37inch

I am waiting on reply regarding if there were any pets or smokers in the home since we do have some allergies.

Since everyone seems to like the idea of moving the bedroom chair to the family room, I will need a new bedroom chair.

I like the chair well enough.. but I wouldn't do a recliner as my first DIY upholstery project. I know you are eager but with some time, I am sure you can find an even nicer chair that will be a more appropriate first project. (Unless you really want a recliner for the BR)
