I've ordered bookcases from them--several of the folding and stacking ones with the mantel top and one other (can't remember the name of it).

The folding ones are easy--just open the sides and the shelves fall into place. They are sturdy enough to hold lots of books. I've moved a few times since I got them and they are still going strong.

The other bookcase required assembly. The instructions were clear, easy to read and follow. The bookcase has a small drawer on the bottom--I've had problems before with assemble-it-yourself furniture with drawers--the drawers aren't level or they stick. This drawer is very smooth opening and closing.

It's not top of the line furniture, but it does hold up well, I think. I basically needed lots of storage for books and DVDs at not too high a price and with reasonably good looking furniture and that's what I got.

I ordered a couple of their painted end tables many years ago. They held up very well and the painted finish was nicely done. I didn't need them any more, handed them down to a friend, and she is still using them.

I have a few pieces from them. You have to assemble the pieces yourself. The quality is ok but not too bad. These are the pieces I have:

I've ordered from them and their sister site, Home Decorators Clearance, and I've been pleased with the items. I got two wall sconces and an upholstered bench. Since neither get knocked around, I don't anticipate any problems. Check out the clearance site first. The access is up on the right hand corner of the HD site. threedgrad: Those pieces look very nice. I seem to recall when you got the buffet. How are the finishes? Did they look fairly close to the pictures? Are they fairly scratch resistant?

I've been debating getting my bookcase here or at Macys. Problem is the Macy's ones have fixed shelves. Perhaps furniture makers don't like to put the little notches for the shelf pins on more high end furniture and if I want adjustable shelves this may be a good option.

I'm still not sure about the occasional tables though as I have some concerns if the finish will hold up for scratches and beverages.

Yes, the finishes are pretty good and relatively scratch resistant.

That's good to know. There are two bookcases that are both high on my list. They have so much more selection and options than other places I've looked. Is your buffet black or a dark stain? I'm thinking of getting a black bookcase.

The buffet is a dark stain with a black granite top which is super heavy. I needed three people to finish the assembly of that piece due to the weight of that top.

Home Decorators is displayed in my local Home Depot so I have seen a bunch of their pieces and own one of them. I noticed significant variability in construction among their lines but I think you are fine with bookshelves - - things with drawers tended to vary more. I bought a filing cabinet which has worked out fine, decent metal glides on it and resilient finish. Also, this may not be available when shipping but we had our piece assembled for thirty bucks.

They're owned by Home Depot...I didn't realize that Home Depot stores were displaying the merch these days. Neat!
