Comments (10)I'm attempting to add a second chime to an existing front door button and chime, but there are only two wires from the button to the existing chime -- one red & one white. The red one attaches to the terminal marked "F" on the chime while the white does not connect to the chime but is connected by a wire nut to a white wire running to the transformer. The "T" terminal on the existing chime runs another red wire to the transformer. To what do I connect the "F" and "T" terminals on the second chime to to make this work? It seems to me I should run a wire from "F" terminal to "F" terminal and another wire from the "T" terminal on the second chime to the white wire running from the door button at the wire nut -- bypassing the transformer entirely....See MoreUtilizing two doorbell chimes that require diodes with 1 button
Comments (2)So long as the supply transformer has sufficient amperage and the wiring of the chime setup is adequate to minimize voltage drop, adding other units in parallel works well. I have not had an installation using a diode field-installed at the door button. For terminology, using the terms "bell" and "chime" interchangeably tends toward confusion....See MoreInstalled New Doorbell Transformer For Ring Pro - Issues w/ Chimes
Comments (8)Disclaimer: I know zilch about these fancy computerized doorbells. In fact I'm a crusty guy who won't have "smart" electronic stuff in my house because I don't want it getting smarter than I am. And you young whippersnappers better stay off my lawn, too. :) However, in your place I'd put the old button back and see if the doorbell makes noise again. IMO the doorbell should work (for some values of "work") on 24 volts. There's a tiny chance that the excessive voltage would cause too much current to flow through the doorbell and damage it. However, you don't normally lean on a doorbell button for minutes at a time, so the tiny chance is tiny. More likely the higher voltage would just make the doorbell's solenoid strike the chimes too hard and negatively affect their tone. Unless the 24 volts actually did burn out the chime already, it should not go silent. If it works (even poorly) with the ordinary button reinstalled, the cause is obvious. In that case I'd just return the darn Ring Thing to the store so it can outsmart someone else, but that's me. :)...See MoreDoorbell wiring help
Comments (7)Check out this link for basic wiring info: https://diyhousehelp.com/doorbell-wiring-diagrams If these are in fact for your doorbell, then the black and white wires are likely your line voltage for the transformer, and the black and green are for the low voltage load going to your button and chime. I'm of course making assumptions here as you're not showing your black and white wires, and not knowing anything beyond this picture. The transformer is usually mounted to a j-box, typically in your basement or attic, and the chime would be somewhere people can hear it....See Morelsst
