How about making your own stencil pattern? You could always start by just doing a single leaf, painting it, folding the paper in half (side to side) and tapping to get the paint on the other side (or just skip the folding/tapping part and paint another mirror-image leaf) - some of it will depend on your skill of course - then cut out the leaves, scan them on a printer or xerox, and glue them onto a cut-able plastic sheet of some kind from Staples. Now you have a stencil for the pattern. Do leave inexact white space between the horizontal rows. However, it does strike me as incredibly tedious!

If you want to *mimic* the A.S. design, I would start by drawing or printing out a full-scale image of the repeat, and create a stencil or a simple transfer that way.

What surface will you be painting on? How big of a space? And do you plan on simple blocks of color, or incorporating the textures?

Here's another thought; paint up one scale design and have that made into color copies (a decent color copy), adhere to your surface and seal.

The exact same thought I had. I WAS going to use it for my backsplash. But painting 26 feet of it....?

I thought the stencil would be the way to go. I need to experiment and see if I want the preciseness of a total stencil or only draw the guide lines and free hand it. Either way it is going to quit being fun about 2 feet into it. I was hoping I had overlooked the obvious and someone would tell me the magic quick way to do it. If Donna Dewberry lived next door............

Believe me, there is no magic, maybe sheer determination.

It looks more like stained glass than tile to me. You can do a faux paint application. Is this for a backsplash or wall? If it's a backsplash, I'd do it on a backerboard that can be installed after completion. It's always easier to work on a flat horizontal surface than directly on a vertical wall (to me).

They sell blank stencil materials at Michaels. I did a wiffleball border and one with his team's logo for dh years ago and it came out great. You may want to try stencil sites (try stencilease.com)to see if you see anything similar or something else catches your eye, but if not, then blow up that photo and trace your own.

You could do whatever you want -- on canvas. Then attach it to your wall with wallpaper paste. That's how many of the big professional murals are done. The advantage is you can do it on the floor or a comfy table.

You'll need buy canvas by the roll, pre-primed, not stretched.
Or, you can buy it unprimed, like flat goods and prime it.

To apply to wall, make sure you use clay-based paste. That way it's easily removable, but stable while up. This can be purchased at any good paint supply store.
