Sofa dilemma

This is our sofa in the living room. I know it has some horse hair stuffing as I could see little pieces sticking up through the upholstery when I first bought it, but it also seems to have some type of batting in it. I've had it for several years, but it's almost impossible to use the sofa now.

It's like everything inside has sunk to the bottom. On the right side of the seating is a "hole" where everything has really fallen down.

If we sit on the other end, we're sitting directly on what I guess are springs.

Here is what the underside of the sofa looks like...you can see how everything looks to have fallen to the bottom.

I know this style isn't everyone's taste, but I love this sofa. I would really like to be able to take it to someone and have it professionally repaired and reupholstered. However, I lost my job almost 2 years ago and don't have $1000-1500.00 to have it done.

I've debated trying to repair/reupholster it myself, but I've never tried anything like this before. I have no idea where to even begin! The tufting alone would probably drive me to drinking!

My other option is to get another sofa. I found a sofa made by Broyhill at an antique shop (although the sofa of course isn't an antique). Has anyone bought any furniture made by them? I've heard of them, but never purchased any of their furniture. I was just wondering about the quality.

I was in a hurry the day I found it and didn't get a chance to really look at the sofa closely. From what I did see, it looked to be in great shape except for one spot where the cording (I guess that's what it's called) was loose in the front. This should be an easy fix, right?

My only real concern is how the sofa would look with the rug I have already. The sofa is a floral pattern...not sure how that would work on top of the patterned rug. I'm going by the shop today and ask the owner if she'll let me bring one of the cushions home with me to see how it would look.

Then again, I keep going back to how much I love the sofa I have...I just don't love the condition it's in right now. Is there an easy way to fix the inside and make it more comfortable without having to completely reupholster it?

I have visitors coming next month, so I need to do something quickly...the problem is I can't seem to decide what to do. I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions!
