Sorry for a late follow-up here (been traveling) but I found a picture, without too much more information, of the transfer switch which you have. It appears it has wired cords on the two "hard-wired" connections and is basically designed for RV/marine applications where this type of connection is common. I'd simply put a plug and outlet connector on the appropriate cords and make this a plug-in device. Not sure about the 300 watts being able to power the pellet stove (fans, igniter, and auger) as pointed out above, and an alternative power-source to recharge the battery during an outage. Just had our first storm last night (early in the season) and while I do have a pretty good portable generator/hard-wired transfer switch setup, I wasn't quite ready for 11 hours of it... however, the gas cans are now full!

Thanks for the responses! It reinforces my belief that Seagull is a good system to go with. I just called their Tech Support and was told that I can use my current 120V wall switch wiring with a new dimmer switch that feeds electric to the transformer. The transformer then outputs 12V electric to the actual lighting system. The transformer can handle 2 line input for the track wiring so if I place an electric transformer in the middle of my L shaped cabinet area I can run the lights to a distance of 10 feet either side of the transformer before there is any wattage dropoff. The electric transformer has a max 150W load which should be more than enough for what I need on the that portion of my kitchen. Larger spaces need to use the magnetic transformers which carry higher loads and allow longer wiring tracks for lights. I hear that electrical is better than magnetic though if you can go with the load and length restrictions. My desk and butler pantry areas which are across the room will still need separate transformers and switches but that is acceptable to me. So I hope to start out by installing the Seagull system in my kitchen cabinet area first and see how I like it. Then will add the other 2 areas at that point. I still appreciate any additional input, comments or personal experience with this or similar systems. Love the information that comes out of these forums. It has saved me many times from making wrong decisions, plus it sure helps me to focus on issues I would otherwise not even be aware of. Thanks!

I have a sloped ceiling with only 2x6 ceiling joists so there was no room for recessed cans. So I went with track lights. It was hard to finds ones that I liked the look of, there definitely are many Austin Powers-looking options available (Yeah Baby!) Also many track lights are designed for spot lighting, such as for accent lighting or task lighting rather than for the overall lighting for a room. I ended up with the following, with one track along one side of the galley kitchen and another along the other, with track mounted pendants over the peninsula: I am happy with the look and the light, I am less happy with how frequently the bulbs burn out and how difficult it is to remove the bulbs without damaging the fixtures.

A comment on the debate of wifi vs. wired - we live in a 6,000sqf 1860s home. It's built very solidly, which has proven to be quite the problem with the wifi signal. Not to mention all the interference and channel problems with having 8 security cameras on the network. And everything could be ground to a halt when my sister showed up with her multiple baby video monitors. Regular boosters did nothing to help with the signal. And while there were tweaks one could make to tings like the cameras to get things on different channels and working, it was constant work and trial and error. The final solution, after countless tech people worked on it, was wireless access points in various spots all over the house. But all those access points had to be connected to a switch next to the router. So a tech guy came and ran ethernet cord all over the house, some inside the walls, some outside the house. All to get these various spots wired. All in the pursuit of reliable wireless. I completely agree that wifi is the future. Heck, it's the present. But I would expect a lot more clarity around how this company is planning on delivering "robust" wifi to the entire home - and surrounding the home, since I also expect to be able to use my laptop on my patio. Because as wifi keeps getting better and faster, we are using it more and more and the data keeps getting bigger and bigger. I would want wired protection to ensure that my wifi could keep up with the growing demands placed on it. As for the debate over cat5e or cat6 cables - I am no expert. But I remember being on this board about 15 years ago, and people talking about how cat5 was a nice "future-proof" solution, but not necessary as the less expensive cables could keep up with the workload just fine. I think people always underestimate how quickly technology keeps evolving. I would personally throw the best cord you can afford at it right now. Because, having had a lot of Ethernet wires run outside my house, I can attest that you will regret missing this opportunity while the walls are open.
