Since it's New Years Eve, I thought I'd start a thread to share our New Years Resolutions! Anyone have any good ones?

Mine:

1. That good ol' stand by... lose weight/work out more. or generally try to live a healthier life, less stress, etc.

2. Take a family vacation. We didn't get to go anywhere this year. Hopefully next year, we'll find the time to do that.

3. I'm going to be a grandma for the first time, so I want to work at being a good one.

I don't make NYRs...
But DH's is (I laughed my butt off when he told me this) "to be less tolerant" - my DH is a incredibly sarcastic and thinks everyone and everything is stupid... So this was utterly hilarious - oh, and he was making a joke when he said it.

Here are mine...

1. To spend more time in my Bible

2. To be less critical of others

3. To take better care of myself

4. To make our home more "family" friendly and a place that is welcoming to others

5. To stop staying up so late on the computer!!!

I see New Year's resolutions as an attempt to improve myself. It doesn't matter if they are made on New Year's or on the 2nd Tuesday in May. It's just a time to re-evaluated my actions.....I can always use a reality check.

Katy, Logee's is certainly an adventure in itself. I've been going there for years. My first times were when Joy Martin was running it. Even squeezing through the aisles single file is worth it. So many exotic plants growing over, under and around! It's only about a 40 minute ride for me. I don't know of any other greenhouses that have that kind of variety. The botanical center at Roger Williams Park here in Providence is big and interesting. There's a $3 admission though. Lunch afterwards would not be a problem. Providence has tons of great restaurants. Maybe some others here would be interested in one of these or something else. Bill

Michelle, I received my seeds today !! What a wonderful treat it is to find such an awesome collection of seeds waiting for me in the mailbox after a long day at work ... Hi all! I'm new to the forums but I have an idea why this one doesn't get much response. It's not listed in any of the categories, it's only listed sort of alphabetically in the s's as The Single Life, it took me several visits to find it and I still have trouble remembering where it is on the list to click so I can lurk! Maybe someone should suggest to Spike? that it be made more visible, I know that there are a lot of singles on the forums. Just thought I'd pop in and say something and maybe someone else has had the same experience. My New Year's Resolution is to be proud of being single and not be so quiet. Happy New Year! Charlotte

Thank you. As I recall we had a record high of 80 last Sunday (1 January). Tonight and tomorrow night (6 and 7 /January) will get down to 24 and 26, then back up into the 60/70s after that. The ground is always workable. The lows are very short in duration. The day temps normally warm everything back up. This is a great time to garden. Weeds grow slow, and no mosquitoes. It is a gardeners paradise from oct to march. April, May and June starts to warm up. July, August and Sept are too hot and too many bugs. In the recent past, I tried a second tomato season in late fall. Looking back, it makes no sense to try to grow in July, Aug, Sept when it is so effortless now. Of course, I can't grow tomatoes now. I am thinking I will just grow extra tomatoes in the normal season and freeze the extra. The ones I froze from last summer did real good in Sauces. I don't have a lot of time to can/make sauce to freeze, but I can always make time to quarter tomatoes and throw them in a bag in the freezer. The sweet white turnips, hakerie (name is close to that), are one of the lesser cold hardy varieties. They are very tastee, especially roasted with the carrots. I have a small patch of them and few remain. I will cover them. Everything else is very hardy and remains uncovered: Kale,broccoli, collards,onions, carrots and Lettuce. I expect some Lettuce losses, as there are many varieties. I expect half to survive just fine. I watered real good yesterday getting ready for the cold snap.

Here are mine:

1.) To not sweat the small stuff as much and try to stay more in the moment.

2.) Be better about keeping up with the housework--I feel like I am always playing catch up!

3.) Improve communication with my DH.

4.) Get pregnant!

My resolutions are to of course eat healthier and exercise more, be more patient, get my house more organized, and dh and I have decided we want to get pregnant!

I don't usually make resolutions because I think they are silly. What I would like to focus on though is not stressing over a few extra pounds and enjoying my life instead of worrying about things I can't control anyway. Live, love, laugh!!!

1. Lose weight

Ok, close

1. Lose weight, diet and exercise.

2. Pray that DD doesnt get pregnant (somewhat a joke -- dont think too likely).

3. Take more vacations, once said DD goes to college (in September) --

Been working on self improvement which includes weight loss.

1. Continue to exercise, eat right, and therefore lose weight. (Already lost 23 lbs 3 of which was over xmas, not sure how I did that:)

2. Continue to try to work towards personal goals such as lightening up and getting back to school.

3. Get pregnant at some point this year while gaining minimal weight haha.

4. Do more volunteer work!

Could not help but notice how many of us want to get in shape and get in shape and get pregnant which is quite the challenge!

happy new year!!!

1. spend less money on stuff I don't really need and overall take better care of my finances

2. need to lose some weight. i did gained weight last 2-3 months. I do exercise regurarly and don't eat that much. so guess maybe watch what i eat...

3. exhibit my art a bit more this year. i didn't show as much last year as I normally do.

unrelated question: iammommy which one of your children is going to have a baby?

FD, my oldest son. He's going to be 22 this month and got married in June of last year. He joined the Army in August after they found out they were expecting. They are due in March... so they wasted NO time with a grandbaby. It's a boy!

oh! congrats! I didn't know he got married or even was involved with anyone. oh wow. it must be tough on her with him being in the army...wow, somehow i do not feel ready yet for being grandmother. :) it is nice though to be young grandmother, easier to connect to grandkids. congrats again.

Nothing too wild:

Maintain my weight - maybe lose 5 pounds or so. Tone up!

Get my kitchen remodel done. Heck - I'd settle for started right about now! It would be nice to unpack all my dishes and cookware since we've been here almost a year now.

Work on my patience - with SD, with the boys, with SD's mom. Learn to let more go and less fester. I've made strides here, but I need to make more. I know it will improve my overall happiness a great deal.

Well if we're just talking goals for the 2009 calendar year, then I guess I have some

1) Tell my labmate to "F*** right off!" (I may even do that on Monday!)

2) Finish my stupid research and write my stupid thesis so I can work at a great job I was offered for the fall.

3) Gain 10 pounds (ideally 5 of fat and 5 of muscle) to prep for trying to conceive in November-ish

4) Attempt to help DH lose 10 pounds to prep for said TTC

(The TTC is contingent on finishing grad school and getting that job though)
