opinions greatly appreciated

Hi it;s been awhile since i lasted posted but i've still been following the forum and find it a tool of valueable info.I was hoping to get some feed back on my question,my partner is having the skids for 2 weeks over xmas thats fine with me and happy to have them around.Now theres three of them plus we have our Bs who is 2 years old.The oldest of his is 13.At what age do kids start to by little gifts for there parents,in all the 5 years of being with my partner not once have the kids bought him anything let alone a card for me, not that it really worries me if i dont get anything but for my partner it would be nice i think to get something off his kids no matter how small.His middle child who is 11 has been ringing him of late asking him for this and that for xmas,but flat out ringing any other time of the year kids being kids i guess.There Bm has told me on the phone the kids just look at there Dad as a meal ticket to mac'donald's which i find hurtful to say the least,he trys his best to spend time with each child taking them to there sports etc on the weekends.I feel like when they do come down is to pull them all aside and ask them if they thought to buy there dad a little something ,money isnt a issue, like how much does a card cost these days $2?.

Should i say something to them or just leave it as is?

I would take them shopping and let them buy something for their dad. Most kids like to give gifts to their parents but they need help with earning the money and getting to the store. So, ask them if they have purchased anything for their Dad and when they say no, you can say, "well, we'll stop by the store and you can pick up something for him. What do you think he might like?" If you want them to pay for it themselves, assign a chore so they can reimburse you for the gift.

Thank you for your reply,looks like we get them boxing day the day after xmas so inless the Bm takes them shopping or inless they ask mum , dad wont be getting anything.I just thought at 13 kids could think for them selves but every child is differnt i surpose,if the shoe was on the other foot i would be asking the kids if they wanted to get there dad a liitle something,but some ex's are just stone cold like the one i have to deal with.She even had the nerve to say to my Dh on the phone the other night in front of the kids that the kids dont really know there Dad and that they wouldnt feel comfortable staying with us for 2 weeks!Thats utter crap as he see's them every second weekend.

Les, automobile experience, a failing in the belief of anything Consumer Reports or my friends say and my work has me now focusing on what the consumer needs/expects as much as the product being sold. So I say analyze the retailer as much as you are analyzing the product. Pay attention to their ability to repair or transport the equipment if it stops running in the middle of your yard and what else they can or can not do for you. Oh, and while there may be some Hyuandi's in the world of mowers even Toyota :gasp: has issues with transmissions and truck frames besides the out of proportion gas pedal thing. So when picking check to see if you can get a new starter for it in short order or the if it uses normal sized tires you can grab from the box store in a pinch so you can finish mowing before the family gets over.

Zephyr, Futuro, or Ventahood?

Any help/opinions greatly appreciated! We are fixing up the kitchen in a new home, currently has a 36" gas cooktop with a downdraft vent. We need an island hood to go over a 36 inch 6 burner gas Bertazzoni cooktop (about 51,000 btu's total). We are planning a 42" island hood. We like the glass canopy models such as Zephyr Milano and Futuro Mooncrystal, but are worried about capture area and upkeep of the glass. The Zephyr Napoli looks a little better for capture area. The vent-a-hood seems bulky, and our current VAH seems louder on low speeds than the zephyr we saw in the showroom. We have read the very mixed reviews on the Futuro (6" duct issue), and a few positive on the Zephyr. Our old house has VAH. Cooking style is simmer and saute, no wok, always boiling pasta water. Any current opinions/recs on these hoods? Thanks in advance!

I wish I could help you more! I recently bought the dacor discovery duel fuel and won't be able to use it till my house closes in September! I too found it hard to find people who had the Discovery line, but I am taking a chance after visiting several appliance stores and talking to a lot of people, oddly they all seemed to vote dacor above wolf.

Which walls are load-bearing? Here's an outside-your-current-box mockup that hopefully makes reasonably good use of the existing plumbing, except that you'll need to run it to the master bath. (Kitchen -> master suit; dining -> kitchen; add family/master.) Who knows if any of this actually works without more specific dimensions, and you could certainly do a more closed off kitchen (leave the living room formal, if that's your goal?), but with busting through an exterior wall, it's going to make it hard (expensive) to make the new family room terribly open to the rest of the house. But I don't know what your use goals are.

Hey I have an idea..why dont you see if you could pick them up before and have a little outing with just you and his kids to shop for a gift. Not sure what the sitution is with his ex and if she would allow that but, its worth a try. Or buy dad something after xmas. Its the thought and not the actual day that matters (to me anyway).
