A Question about Pets ...

Just wondering if anyone else has this same issue.

When I married my husband, he had owned his dog for about 5 years already. This is a 45 lb. stinky, shedding, drooling furball. He hikes his leg on everything that stands still for more than 5 seconds. Our kids' toys, french doors, my roses, our BBQ ...kitchen cabinets ... anything! I got tired of every day someone having to clean the stains and odor in the carpet, and I got tired of having tumbleweeds of dog hair float up to our kitchen counters. He's no longer allowed in the house because of these things. Also, we have a puppy which we got within the last few months. His dog licks the puppy pee and has tried to eat puppy poop. Oh disgusting.

During the summer, his dog snapped at our 3 year old. Apparently, she had stuck her finger in his ear. My feeling is this -- I don't want a dog around my kids that I can't totally trust to be docile and friendly ALL the time. Add this to his dog's other disgusting traits, which my husband has tried to break with no success.

My husband is so attached to this dog. I can't understand why. Have any of you had problems with existing pets coming into the marriage, yours or your spouse's? What happened?
