How much depth does a ceiling bathroom fan/heater take?

I ask this because I will be having an unfinshed upstairs, and I'd like to be able to put in a bathroom there. The ceiling would be on the downslope of the roof, and since I will be having spray foam insulation, obviously this is a concern. I figure that I may need to put in some type of a box for the space required for the fan/heater. The rafter will be 2x10, and the foam will be 6" thick.

On a side note, I believe that I can put in a wall mounted fan instead (where I would not have any problem with insulation), but the location would need to be the side wall of the vanity alcove (which may make the person there get quite warm!)
