Thurman, when you feel really on edge, can you take a long walk? Or go into another room and read for a bit. Perhaps you could pick up a great book and when you are feeling overwhelmed, go into another room and read for a while. Or you could take a break and go run errands, or meet a friend for lunch. Or encourage your wife to take her daughter out to a movie, or out to lunch for just "girl time", while you have breaks from too much togetherness. Perhaps you and a friend or two could go to a guys movie, that your wife would not want to see, but you would. If you find that you are really getting stressed and might say something you will regret, just take a bathroom break or something and regroup. I find movies can be a great distraction from stressful times. So is fresh air and getting outside. Or if you work outside the home, you could put in some extra hours while she is in town.

There is tons of stuff to do on the holidays!. If she acts up, go out have a great time and let your other half deal with her. Spend you time for coffee, movies, heck treat yourself to a massage!
Wheni get frustrated with my stepkids or even my own child, my hubby, i leave home and go for a coffee.
I'm a true believer in not having people stuck to my hip !! I believe in time to oneself, time for couples, time for the kids.
So i have one day aweek for myself, and i encourage that in my family.
Its healthier that way. I've encouraged my stepdaughter as well.
At the beginnning of our relationship she would think i'm ignoring her and would ask her father why do i go into a room for an hour or two. He explained my belief for alone time . Alone, with no one but myself. She started to embrace it and said she really enjoyed it. Being alone reading a book or listening to music brought peace to herself. I said to her, this is why i do it. There will be times for sharing and other times, you must be alone. If you dont want to be alone, no one forces you but i like to be alone at times. Away from everything, lost in a dream world:) It really helps.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! FOR EVERYONE!!!. Try to enjoy the season regardless of what it brings. Remember when you are stressed with somone or something, just get up, take control and make yourself happy! No one forces you to spend time with someone you dont like. Its the holidays, Get out , relax!
