Sheer Curtain Panel Decision for Master Bedroom
Comments (28)Thank you msjay2u for the link to the vent extender and deflector which I know will be helpful in some rooms. I think as long as I do not put heavy curtains on my two windows in my bedroom and I treat them separately, I will not have the worry I thought since I will not need the 4.75" clearance I thought I did and 2.75" will just work. If I find that I need 3" and the sheers are too close to the vents, I love the deflector idea so the sheers will not be touching the metal heating vents. I guess no one knows what is best for my door since I have the links above. This post has helped me greatly since now I do not have to find a curtain rod a little bigger than 120" long and if I ever sell my home, I really did not want to block the balcony door but I could not see it any other way until all of you opened my eyes and I know one of the treatments will work. I still would like to open and close my sheers so I am thinking that 3/8th white rod with the cute pineapples on the end may be nice or the clear ones but the I am not sure if I will be able to open and close the sheers or lace. Does anyone on this list have the Shari or the Emma Lace and/or anyone can tell me which they like better since the Shari sheers I would have to order online and their white says "cool white" while the Emma Lace panels says only "white". I also still like the crinkled sheers in a less bright white but I am waiting to see if there are any other people who read this post who would like to vote. I got so much done today and that has made me realize to take my time and I will love whatever I do to my windows. Thank you. P.S. Did you see my link above to what my heating vents/registers look like? You seemed to have gotten it right with the deflectors....See MoreNeed a vote..Curtains or no curtains?
Comments (40)I haven't read through all responses completely, so forgive me if these suggestions have already been made. I would flip the rug so that it's parallel to the fireplace instead of perpendicular, if it would fit. Having it perpendicular kind of reads "landing strip to the fireplace". Sofa table really helps soften the transition. I don't usually like bright window treatments, but I think those IKEA drapes work very well to tie in all the colors, and really help that quad panel to the right of the fireplace stand out. With no blinds the yellow drapes disappear into the wall, and with your couch up against the windows they aren't function, so at that point, what's the point? If I can take a slight detour with a question for you -- I like bamboo/natural blinds. I've been back & forth about getting them for my windows (debating them vs. shutters), which like yours are wider than the average window. I think seeing your pictures has kind of made me not consider them so seriously. I've never had them and don't know what they're like to live with. Do they always hang kind of "lumpy" and/or uneven like that? Do you ever get the nice straight bottom edge when they're pulled up like you get with wood blinds? Comments (5)TY for your responses. Privacy is not much of a concern, its our driveway, its a long driveway and we are in the boonies. My husband wants something there but for both of us loss of light would be a bigger negative than any gain of privacy. We really like natural light flooding the house and have very few window treatments that are closed very often. Lukki, I also like that etsy shop and do browse there for inspiration. Those images, at least one, did come from there. My3dogs- I will take a look at eyelet. I also really like the idea of crocheted cafe curtain, it would add more privacy and still allow light I think. Comments (6)Hang them high and wide. I would remove the mirror because you want the open panels to lie against the wall and there shouldn't be room for much between the center panels. If this is a dining room, most people don't like to watch themselves masticate anyway. Unless doing over the top glam style in the room, puddling and breaking are usually discouraged. If you like the look, try it, but rings take the look toward casual, so a contraction with the puddling. One long rod with an additional support in the center should easily span both windows, giving you room to pull the curtains back and away from the window. Finials are an option, but you do lose that wall space with them. Buy all the panels you think you may need and experiment. Be sure you can return the ones you don't need in the end. The rod needs to look substantial enough to support the visual weight of the drapes, so you may want to experiment with that as well - returnable, of course. Try one long and then two short is you need to and vary the thickness. Get a friend to help hold things in place while you look from a distance. Hope that helps some....See MoreGemcap
