New Crosses

Now that Slow has opened her gift I can show some other crosses I have made.I am doing a whole bunch with pictures on them for a little show in march so you'll be seeing more of this type....After questioning everyone how to do this I drew pattern on paper and cut out with mosaic scissors which leave a space for grout.thanks for all you instructions...Annie

Well, I have fallen in love with the second one. Those are absolutely beautiful. I have never seen anything like them. Slow's was really pretty and I was drooling, but these are to die for. I really like the one without the picture the best. Good for you. There is just so much talent in this forum it takes my breath away. Keep up the good work.

Curiosity has gotten the better of me. When I get off work in the morning I'll pick one of the smaller pods (saving the one in the pic for seed collection) and eat it. I may be wrong but from pod shape, leaf shape, and general plant characteristics I'm really leaning towards it being a bell x banana. Which a few friends of mine that can't handle heat are super excited about. Would make a great salad pepper as my mom said lol. I had planned on getting my feet wet in the crossing and breeding world over the coming winter but it looks as tho I'm going to start learning early lol. I'm going to continue this cross as it is and attempt to make 2 variations. One mild and one hot. Any pointers would be appreciated as I've never intentionally done this. On the hot version I would like to cross it with cowhorn (for more heat and prolific traits while keeping the pepper at a very large size) and giant bhut for obvious reasons.

My art, Healing Expressions, is the art that CrackPot Annie (Anne Cantrell) is referring to be copies for any of you who are interested. Although I had repeated emails with no response from Annie 2-3 years back, regarding a financial arrangement we had for her to use my art in these crosses, I unfortunately never heard back from her. I was alerted to this thread awhile back but did not respond at first. My heart is often to give away so much of my art for different causes and situations I feel led to help out in and genuinely support. I had given permission for Annie to copy one design of my art to give to a stained glass group she was meeting with. Then we began to arrange a financial agreement and my support of her beautiful work on my blog if she was to ever sell any of the crosses using copies of my art as the center focal point. I am saddened I never heard back from her and that she had given free permission to just copy any of my art she has in posession to any of you who wanted to create with them...and that is wasn't necessary for what you wanted to be honestly purchased. I only ask 4.99 for the small prints of my work on my website at healingexpressionsbylani.com. This is the first time in my 10 year career selling art on line that I have ever had to respond to a situation like this but my heart felt it needed to be addressed. Thank you... Nanatricia: I'm still kinda new at this cement making. I don't add admix as I'm not real sure of what that is. The guys at our lumber yard are not into cement as they can't answer many questions I have. I did research on the internet and found out how to replace some of the sand with perolite, the kind used in a garden, to make it lighter weight. You can also use vermiculite, but it doesn't seem to mix up as smoothly. The perilite makes a BIG difference in the weight. So far, so good, I've not had any fall apart yet, guess time will tell. Chinatreasures: I place a piece of PVC pipe in the mold and pour the cement around it so that it is concealed in the middle. I put a piece of tape over the bottom of the PVC so the cement won't fill it up,and place as close to the bottom as I can, and hope it doesn't move up too much when I bounce the bubbles out. Then I drill the cement to expose the opening. They are too heavy to hang. They are strictly for the yard.

They are scissors fron the stained glass shop,they cut out an extra piece where the grout would go,of course with my glass cutting I still have to grind a lot to make them fit.Maybe with age I'll get better...better hurry huh?

Hmmmmm... I just can't picture the 'mosaic scissors' you described. Can you possibly give us a couple of tutorial pictures. My weak brain can't quite wrap around how it works.

Oh Annie I love both of them. The bright colors of the second one really call to me. I am just going to have to try this SOON!! Think I will have to buy a WHOLE sheet of that backer board. LOL

Got $20.00 off on my credit card bill when I bought my tumbler, for reasons I do not quite undrstand. Going to buy that roto zip right away and look for the mosaic sissors. That sounds very cool.

Good JOB!!! I can't wait to start making a few crosses.

Those are beautiful! What did you put the 3rd one on? I mean what is the base? I like it's free form. Gotta try one or two. I don't know if you realize there are 2 types of glass scissors. One is for copper foil work and the other is for lead work. I find that the lead cuts a wider line. Making it better for mosaic.

This not the brand I have but similar in what they do,the cross's are all cut from mdf thanks to my DH Just google mosaic scissors from leponitt,sorry picture didn't show

Annie, you have become the pattern queen! The way your pieces fit together is perfection! You totally get it!!

Another tip, instead of using the mosaic scissors, use a med-fat tip marker to draw your pattern. Cut out your pieces on either side of the lines. Then your grout will be the width of the marker line.

And Bama, that's what I do also...with a black Sharpie.
It gives a perfect 1/8" grout line.

Your DH did a great job cutting them out. Love the way you have the pieces fit. The scissors she used are what you use to cut out patterns for stained glass. They actually cut it so that you do have a grout line. You did a great job of keeping the pieces in order and not forgetting like me what piece goes where...

Just had one of my many DUH moments! I was picturing... cutting GLASS with 'mosaic sissors'... just did the Google thing... and realized you're all talking about cutting PAPER patterns! DUH! I couldn't imagine CUTTING glass! It's just a brain lag moment! :-)
