Anyone ever do a transparent GOG?

Still looking for ideas for project #2...so many things that need TBM...

I have french doors that go into my bathroom from the bedroom. I think there's um...12 panels on each? Anyway, I'd like to be able to see out, so the design would have to be clear, or simply small & decorative.

Anyone ever do a full-pane GOG using transparent tiles?

(or maybe there is no such thing once you get the silicone on there?)

Mary! You are The Queen of Questions! lol! Cute! Bama did a reaaally nice one with bevels that is above a doorway, see if she'll post it again. Clear glass comes in different textures too so it is really do-able. You could use some clear and some textured. Just remember to use clear silicone and smoosh it right to the edge of the glass so you don't get grout bleeding under the glass!

Transparent Leaves on Syngonium?

I figured there was an interesting story to the leaves. Gramma advice, IMO, is usually about 80-90% true. Trying to isolate that part from the rest is when the value can be capitalized. So she said to lay the leaves there & the fungus gnats would be repelled. Specifically bay leaves? Fascinating! No idea how to research that one... "Fungus gnats, made it to a 12" pot, root rot..." and every pic of your plant shows dark, moist soil. All of this in general says to back off on the frequency of watering. This type of vining, creeping plant doesn't need much soil relative to its' size, compared to a lot of other kinds of potted plants, so can take a long time to dry in a same size pot with a similar mass of foliage as compared to many other plants. If drying more is not enough to combat that stuff, like rotting roots and fungus gnats, the soil may just be holding onto water far too long for the roots to ever 'breathe.' Drying of itself can sometimes fail to get rid of FG's too, though almost always good for plants, but never to the point of wilt. There are some good discussions here about other measures if you find it necessary sometime.

What I did was use a 2.8 oz tube of GE Silicone II clear for Window/Door/Attic/Basement and squeezed a solid line of the glue all the way around the underside edge of each piece of glass, taking care not to apply too much because you don't want it to interfere with the area where the grout will be. Then when I grouted, I mixed up the grout on the dry side as opposed to wet and runny. This seems to help also to avoid grout creep. My gog of candles looks quite nice from the back. Well Cal J, it is a small window, around 12" X 14", and I used the ge silicone ll, clear. I had no idea what all of those comments about glue everywhere meant until I did this... now it all makes perfect sense...I didn't put it on thick enough to smoosh up the sides. my question now though is: what to use to clean up the glass on the mosaic as I didn't do it as I went along.. it's not globs or anything, it's just little bits here and there and some with like a film over them. Glass cleaner helps but not to my satisfaction... I did not grout it...was thinking of not doing that. I did use the crushed colored glass for some of the small areas to fill in. Has anyone put another glass pane over their mosaiced side? I was thinking that would protect it even more, or would it look tacky? All suggestions and comments appreciated... bring 'em on... I need all the help I can get...thanks, Dottie

Hi MaryMary. I guess this would be considered a transparent GOG. It was a coffee table top that I did that I have decided to frame for a window hanging instead (haven't gotten around to doing that yet.) In the photo it is not quite done, it is now but don't have a newer pic of it. It is done with crash glass, and you CAN still see through it up close. No reason why you couldn't do the same thing with other kinds of clear glass, just be sure the silicone is solid underneath so it is see-through, if that's what you want.

LR- I've been following your progress on that tabletop/wall-hanging, and it's really terrific! Thanks for pointing out that it is still transparent, cuz I would have thought otherwise. It's a GREAT piece!

bama- I still love the bevel look, even if it isn't a GOG...again, another wonderful piece!

much of this door is transparent glass but you can't see through like a window-because of the color and texture of the glass.it really depends on the glass you use..barb
