Glass in the blender - you read right !

I don't think I ever told you this .... ( is it a wonder why ? Some crazy lady putting glass in a blender ? ! ) LOL

I made myself a collection of frit . I Have an old blender

that I just place small glass pieces in - and let 'er rip !

Keep the cover on & don't breathe the dust!

It usually makes different size pieces - all the way from the size of glitter to larger pieces. The wire mesh in the picture is the sifter I made to sort out the pieces. See the results !!

LOL, Larissa, "I'd do anything for my 'chids" :) Once you get those reading glasses you are doomed, ya hear, DOOMED. They only work well at a certain distance from your eyes (at least once you've needed them for a long time). So after a time, even with them, you can only see the scale if you pick up the pot and hold it the requisite distance from your eyes. Alternatively you can stick your nose down to the plant, with or without magnifying glass. It's a penance, all right. My idea of Heaven is a place where I don't need glasses.

The only thing I noticed is that I can't really read with my progressive sunglasses on inside. Now they are sunglasses, not transistions as my DH says so I shouldn't expect too. I have the 80% shading and it doesn't allow enough light in so my pupils don't do what they are supposed to for reading. So I do have to switch glasses back and forth but I was having to anyway with just the clip ons by removing them. It is just a pain when you run it to pick up something and back out in the sun again. It would be the case even if I had ordered them from a local place. Otherwise I love them and I am considering ordering a regular pair of progressives from them to have on hand in case mine break. Definitely worth the effort to gather all the info and to go through the maiing process.

I agree that the larger burners should be in the back. I solved the exhaust problem by installing a vented microwave above the stove, under that tiny ceiling cabinet above the stove. I just turn on the microwave vent and wahlah! Steam gone. I also agree that glass tops for stoves is a ridiculous and stupid idea. Can't get away from them, though. No way to do away with the scratches and bubbles without replacing the glass top. Oh, well. It's a stove, not a fashion display. I'll live with it.

Ah I always check out these postings. I've found some excellent reads thanks to my fellow book lovers on this site. Right now I have a few suggestions that I have just finished or am on the final pages of: The Potato Factory - Bryce Courtenay (been out a few years and just discovered in the library reject pile) House of Spirits and Whispers - Annie Wilder . This is the true story of a haunted house. Is it scary...no, but as I love old houses and things that go bump in the night I liked it for a change of pace. Alone in the classroom - Elizabeth Hay. See? This is what one does after a snowfall in Wisconsin!

We have wonderfully creative ways to keep our sanity. She puts glass in a blender and I went out and bought myself a grinder, wrapped it, put it under the tree and hollered SANTA CAME EARLY THIS YEAR!!!

LOL - there's something in the air here that makes us nuts. Maybe it's all that ethanol the state mandates . . .

I originally made it for fusing - but I'm wondering if I can set it in grout or something in a mosaic. It might look kinda neat. Then again ..........

Here's a pic of the old blender that takes a lickin & keeps on tickin. It's even taped up and still going strong ! LOL

I received that same blender as a wedding gift 25 years ago!!

It lasted forever - or so it seemed. 24 years of regular use!

Ok, have to tell you this story...

Was making frozen Margaritas one evening in the smoothie maker (it has a cover, and a tamper-thingy), and DH tried the first one, and couldn't figure out why he had all these pieces of stuff in it and kept spitting them out (looked like crushed ice to us both, and figured we musta got some bad ice or sumpthin')...

After a few minutes, we realized what I did: I ground up the plastic cover thingy (that I couldn't find 5 minutes earlier). THAT'S where it went!!! DOH!

its an indutrial blender that costs 400 bucks. I think maybe the osterizer could kick its butt. I have one too and will not give it up till it dies.

I watched that blender guy hacking up stuff ~ That's one helluva blender ! I had this one for about 15 years now ...

No doubt I have that blender also. It blends everything!!! Great idea, I have seen frit used in grout before. I havent used it before but love the look of it even if your not using it fused. Way to go TMG!!!!!

I have a $500 VitaMix that was given to us as a gift by my very generous FIL. It works GREAT, but I don't think I would trust it with an iPhone! Yikes. Makes me nauseous to think of it. My boys enjoyed those videos though!

Btw, I too had that exact same Osterizer for years, probably got rid of it when I got the VitaMix. Didn't occur to me that some day I might think of putting GLASS in it! Well, Duh!

TMG, you are clever! Last year, I was pounding glass in grocery bags trying to make frit. I just wanted to see if I could do it. It was a mess. I use frit on my flower pistons (is that the right anatomy term?) like in my hibiscus in the link below.
