Bixa, I don't think either of those tiles are going to work well with what you are working with. I have the same elements in my kitchen and it looks like those tiles don't offer any contrast.

Here is what I ended up doing it isn't the best of pictures and is very different from the direction you're going in, but at least it gives you an idea of what adding some contrast will do.

Is your countertop Venetian Gold? I have VG and if so, think the tile is too gold. Have you considered travertine, placed on the diagonal? I think mine must be 6" tiles.

As far as contrast, IMO, there's enough between the countertops and granite. Besides, she might want a blended look rather than a contrast. ;o)

The island is St. Cecelia? I think the 2 x 4 with the mosaic gives enough contrast. I am not set on any particular way, I am just asking for someone to photoshop the two so I can see what they look like. I am leaning more towards the one with the mosaic but I would like to see it first to totally decide if I like it. Can someone photoshop for me? Also I really like the subway size verses the regular tile size, so I wouldn't be happy going that direction.

I have Santa Cecelia counters and BS. It looks good with the light gold/caramel color paint I used in the kitchen.

Keep in mind, your tile photo was taken with a flash at close range, so the color in the mock-up isn't accurate. In real life, your tile color will be dimmer because it's in shadow from the cabinets.

Still, looks like the tile fights the floor color in the mock-up. Is that the case?

Is the tile you showed available in a more creamy tone as opposed to the yellow tone it has ? on my monitor, your tile has a green undertone. the orange tone of your cabinets fights with the yellow tile, imo ; your floor has creamy browns and looks good against the wood.

have you considered the 4 by 6 subway with the mosaic band ?

The tile looks like it has a green undertone because the camera flash + the kitchen lights make it look that way in the picture. Yellowish incandescents + bluish flash = greenish tint.

If you look at the tile sample pictures -- same light hitting the tile/counters/cabs -- the tile colors make more sense.

The floor tile to my eye has a pinkish cast, though, that doesn't work with the gold...at least in the pictures.
