What a great idea! Ocean Surf & Nature Sounds are our home's soundtrack. I was surprised, when I drove from Indiana to California alone, "Time to Say Goodbye" was my trip soundtrack.
Lately, Ocean Surf and Jack Sheldon's "Shadow of Your Smile" since I saw/heard and meet him in person on Half Moon Bay Beach Surf.....

Love this thread...how creative! Yes, I feel the same way, littledog. Sometimes I put on something baroque-- Bach inventions perhaps, when the vibe in my house is feeling colonial. Other times, when it feels more bohemian/artsy, nothing but Carly Simon will do, especially her Into White cd. The time is always right for Carly's ex, JT! I also like Clanaad & Lorena. When a completey different mood strikes, love broadway musical scores! I know every word to every song in Les Miserables, Phantom, Miss Saigon, & of course, R&H classics like The King & I.

DH plays straight ahead jazz in our house. We have been lucky to meet Bill Evans in Baltimore in 1973. Evans died in 1980. DH , when he plays the piano, sounds as if he is channeling Bill. Very nice. c

I listen to local talk radio on the way to work in the morning. On the way home I listen to Hannity. I also listen to the "great one", Mark Levin, and sometimes Michael Savage.

Interesting topic! And good call on the mariachi band for my place. I love many different kinds of music, but lately I've been listening to a lot of Del Castillo (again). Their style really does seem to fit my home and my style just perfectly.

AuntJen, I was in Amarillo a couple of weeks ago at a Mexican swap meet; I think it was called the Anchor T? Anyway, along with the clothes, shoes, wigs, Virgin of Guadalupe, and Lord only knows what all else that was for sale in the booths, alot of vendors were selling cassette tapes and CDs of latin music. Of course, they were playing the music so as you wandered along it was like the Theme song for the Flea market. It was upbeat and fun, and at one booth I asked the vendor who he had playing. He told me the name of the band, and, in my very best broken spanglish, I asked to buy a copy. He said "THESE band?" I said "Si, is bueno". Well, he smiled real big and walked over to the stereo, ejected the tape, slipped it into a box and handed it to me. My DH and I started laughing, but hey, at least I knew it worked. In fact, I played it all the way home.

I'm gonna say Ravel just because I love Ravel.

What a wonderful concept, though, to tie music into decorating. Actually, if I COULD decorate the way Ravel sounds (and no, I don't mean I need to hang up a bunch of Monet artwork) then I think the house would really be my style.

Love the idea-- I'll have to keep it in mind as I stumble through decorating!

Hubby listens to a talk-radio station here in San Diego County, but we've asked him to keep his listening habits for that centered on the CAR'S radio. He complies.

Our house can have anything going - both DD#1 and I play piano, though she's moved out for the most part. (Sniff, sniff.) Stereo plays jazz, New Age (especially Yanni and John Tesh), 70s stuff like ABBA, Carpenters, John Denver, Neil Diamond; 60s stuff like Peter-Paul-and-Mary and the Beatles, and Beethoven or Mozart! We have an adapter on one stereo that will play the iPod. The other stereo doesn't have one of those kinds of cords yet. Our tastes are wide - neither of us loves rap, and our "country" tastes differ between the two of us. DH will listen to Hank Williams, while I'm more of a Toby Keith type listener. If DH isn't home, opera and operetta can play, though I'm not a BIG fan of those.

I play Windham Hill artists a lot and listen to audio visions
on xm radio. I find the artists I like from there then order their cds.
Some favorites are Tingstad and Rumbel, Will Ackerman, George Winston, Alex de Grassi, Pierre Bensusan, Bill Leslie, etc.

If were not listening to that, we listen to Christian groups like Third Day, Jeremy Camp or praise.

Love this thread. The "soundtrack" of our house these days is the early jazz guitar of the _Sweet and Lowdown_ soundtrack -- gotta love anything even vaguely like Django Reinhardt. And NPR, pretty much constantly. DH loves Thelonious Monk and Trane, and Baroque music. When he's not around, I put on my favorites (a little too rowdy for him): classic soul (Aretha!), neosoul (John Legend), and/or house music. When we're together, we usually settle on jazz, or Rostropovich's Bach sonatas for cello.

I only wish I could say I decorated the way this music sounds (or makes me feel). to quote Wayne and Garth, I'm not worthy, I'm not worthy...

LOL It's usually on the dining room table, but I set it outside on the porch for a picture.

Amarillo is a bit of a drive for me, but DH was working out that way and I went out to visit for a weekend. Other than the Anchor T, we had to stop at the Big Texan; no, we did not try to eat a 72 oz steak, but I did have my picture made with a Grizzly Bear. We also had to pay our respects at the Cadillac Ranch.

Got up there all by myself, too.

My house would be like my MP3 player...kitchen/dining= Come on a my house by Rosemary Clooney. LR= Summer Breeze by Seals & Crofts. Master bedroom would be something by the Gypsy Kings. Family room is by Kid Rock, I wanna be a Cowboy Baby. The guest bath is zen/meditation music, and the library is some funky R&B. My office would sound like Andy Williams, and the guest room would be something with steel drums.

Mostly it's country music and about 75% of the time it's Keith Urban! ;)

But I do listen to oldies too, sometimes Motown, sometimes classic rock. And show tunes (fav. is Joseph), and around the holidays we alternate between The Messiah and Mannheim Steamroller.

Currently - we're all about the theme song to the Brady Bunch! I think the kitchen gets it's own theme as well - 'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' by U2 perhaps??

BUT - the one bathroom and 2 kids rooms we have gotten redone so far deserve their own song - 'You Are My Sunshine', maybe?

Hawaiian music (when we need to escape!), Cafe Jazz (Diana Krall, Michael Buble), KKSF (bay area smooth jazz radio station on the internet), Classical (baroque mostly), New Age (George Winston, Will Ackerman), Country (Shania Twain, Faith Hill, LeAnn Rhimes, Martina McBride), Pop (Barry Manilow, Il Divo - Simon Cowell found them, Neil Diamond), Soul (Aretha Franklin, Barry White, Donny Hathaway, Luther Vandross), and Rock (Aerosmith, Moody Blues, Stones). And I love Latin music and Soundtracks especially from Ennio Morricone. A very eclectic group indeed!
