OMG, my 12 year old navy blue couches are finally in style. Just when they're falling apart. Wah.

But hey, good for me, because maybe I'll actually be able to replace them with NEW navy blue sofas, which I've been trying to find for two years! Thanks for the encouraging news!

You know how they joke that "Good art should not match your sofa?"

Well, here's something else I've learned: "A good sofa should match your pet."

I have a navy queen sleeper sofa, clean straight lines, in a textured sofa. My decorating style trends toward contemporary.

And I have a small terrier who is a mix of blonde tones with a little gray thrown in. Bought the sofa before my first terrier ever walked into my life.

Now my sofa is covered with 2 denim bedsheets. (They don't look horrible -- they're clearly bedsheets, but they have a nice, tight weave and good weight -- Ralph Lauren sheets, discounted-- and I try to tuck them in neatly. And they're cooler to nap on than the sofa's fabric.)

I got so tired of trying to clean the sofa of pet hair. I love my puppy girl, and I'm forever finding her hair on my dark clothes, but the sofa hair was too much!

So just a lesson I learned that I thought I'd pass along. If you have a pet or think you might get a pet, something to keep in mind.

I conscidered navy velvet but have a light cat so went for lighter blue/green instead. These are my inspiration photos. One reminds me of your layout a little:).

Here's a pic of our navy blue leather sofa. It's not quite as yummy as the one funcolors posted, but it's comfy, stands up to lots of abuse and works in our room. It's a BY that we got off of CL, and as you can see, my friend's dog was making good use of it.

These pics are New Year's Eve, which almost feels alien at this time of year, sorry it's so dark.

Love all of these!!! Epecially the first one roarah posted. I'm a little hesitant about navy velvet. Does it show alot of dirt/dust? I've never had a dark sofa. Does everything stick to velvet? No pets, but we live/sleep/eat on our sofa.

All the navy velvet sofas that I love have great details like tufting and nailhead. Would it look odd on something more modern like this one: Should we just stick to the warm gray fabric that's shown in the picture?

I have light velvet in my tv room and we eat and drink on them and have a cat. They are very forgiving and easy to spot clean and I do not notice water stains like i did on my canvas sofa. That being said i think darker might show hair and lint more than light. I think the sofa you show would look nice in any dark blue fabric but I do love velvet. I do have navy leather wingback chairs and they show nothing! Good luck and trust your gut I have seen pics of your space and you have a great sense of style!

I walked away from a navy blue velvet sofa just last week. I was in love, but feeling like a long-term relationship with my lint roller was in sight. Very sad, but my life will be far easier as a result.

Here are some blue sofas from my inspiration file.

No pictures, but I have a navy leather love seat and two navy leather recliners. The walls I painted a light yellow and I have red pillows, vases and other red accents. Carpet is light beige...furniture is darkish (wrought iron with leather like tops ) and vertical blinds (horrors) on the four (2 double) windows in the room. Get lots of light so have some big real plants sitting around.

sandy - love it! CL, are you serious? The dog makes it perfection!

natal, lol! - I think it's a weird angle on the sofa but a good quality chesterfield is indeed comfortable. I'm not too crazy about the poofy cushions, not all of them look like that.
