Dark Stain on Hands from Laying Oak Floor Boards?
Comments (8)His hands were stained from the oak. I have been working in the wood floor industry for over thirty years. Some people's hands sweat more than others. It will occur more with the white oak. There is a chemical reaction between the sweat and the tannins in the oak....See MoreRemoving sealer and dark stain from oak staircase
Comments (2)Welllll... This isn't gonna be fast OR easy! Sanding it all off may save some time. * By the time you're high off some stripper formulations...scraping...re-applying...scraping... * ...you could've sanded the bulk of it off, including down into the wood where the actual color resides. * So, IMO, buy a top-notch 1/4-sheet sander with a good dust-collection bag. Porter-Cable & DeWalt have good ones. * This would make relatively short work of the flat areas!! * Final sanding-passes before re-staining could be with ~ 120-grit paper. * There are detail-sanders with attachments for sanding between spindle-sides, etc. Buy one of these too. * You'll be vacuuming off lots of sanding dust too!! Get a fine-dusts bag to insert inside your Shop-Vac. This is like a regular bag (but tougher) for your household vac. * Use a nice vented dust-mask. 3M has a valved mask, ~ $5 ea. @ hardware stores. For curved items... * I'd suggest one of the new-breed strippers from Dumond Chemicals, like Smart-strip or Peel-Away. * These are 4x the price of the harsh stuff, but have NO or LOW vocs! This class of strippers is often the only choice in restorations, etc. * They work, but they're slow. I'll trade slow for not losing any brain-cells any day!! * You'll STILL have to sand out stain color manually! Curved sanding sponges/sheets are the only option. * Sure, you'll get a little sore, but spaghetti-strap season is only a few months away!! ;-) * Also...check the Woodworking forum here too. Lots of other good ideas/methods there too. Faron...See MoreRemoving dark stain from ipe porch floor
